Let me guess, you had a bad experience, so ALL HP is no good? Then, what is to be said of me having really good experiences with HP laptops, desktops and printers? Should I make the generality that ALL are great?

I was given a nice EliteBook that was dedicated to one university site. After trying to work around that, I called HP and even though the software was "out of warranty" they promptly sent me replacement Windows 7 disks for ten dollars, no added shipping. Installation took the normal amount of time. So what ax is this fellow grinding?

The gigantic screen, that runs at a resolution offered by your finer 13.3 inch laptops, is perfect for people with aging eyes, for whom the detail offered by a true HD screen would be difficult to read.
Likewise, the processor, which is too slow for gaming, will work fine for email, productivity applications, and web browsing.
Finally, the fact that it's a 17 inch laptop, and hence not really portable at all isn't an issue, because most older individuals do not live a mobile life like we do. They don't want to do their computing from a cafe or a friend's house. And unlike a desktop, there are no cables to have trouble connecting.
Some mighty fine assumptions you have their, young fella. I was with you about the slower processor and gaming, but my experience with post-retirement adults shows them using all kinds of portable devices outside the home. Ipads, ipod touches and readers abound, with fewer using dedicated mp3 players.

Perhaps it is that Woot has a contract to sell them and not as many Toshibas? Or that a lot of fleets of HPs are leased and then returned? This reminds me of the old Iomega Zip drive "click of death" rumor. Yes it happened, but when you compare the number of fails to the number of drives sold, it was a tiny amount.
