Do Not buy an HP their products are poorly made & they do not stand behind their work. Very little is actually deemed warranty repairs!

Actually, four cores @ 1.4Ghz is more than adequate for what this laptop is designed for. It's NOT a gaming machine..(consoles or tweaked desktops are for that) and its MORE than capable of being an entertainment system (not 1080 resolution though) and basic web-surfing...FB updates for you Dot's Poetry Corner people.

In the 80's, bigger speakers were seen as better, but we know better now. Your way of thinking is shortsighted.

The 8 gigs of ram, 750gig HD is excellent and the on-board GPU is superior to Intel's on-board graphics. Good all around system.

With the larger hard drive and a blu-ray player, I would say so.

THIS IS BOLOGNAY.

Why do they give a blu-ray drive with a screen smaller than 1920x1080?

Please don't buy this. You'll regret it.

Let me guess, you had a bad experience, so ALL HP is no good? Then, what is to be said of me having really good experiences with HP laptops, desktops and printers? Should I make the generality that ALL are great?

Someone wrote:"5) Speaking of that restore media, they often do not package this media with your unit, and will charge you for copies of these discs. ALSO speaking of the restore media, these discs will take the better half of an entire day to install the operating system."

I was given a nice EliteBook that was dedicated to one university site. After trying to work around that, I called HP and even though the software was "out of warranty" they promptly sent me replacement Windows 7 disks for ten dollars, no added shipping. Installation took the normal amount of time. So what ax is this fellow grinding?

DrAzzy wrote:This machine would make a great gift for the older generation.

The gigantic screen, that runs at a resolution offered by your finer 13.3 inch laptops, is perfect for people with aging eyes, for whom the detail offered by a true HD screen would be difficult to read.

Likewise, the processor, which is too slow for gaming, will work fine for email, productivity applications, and web browsing.

Finally, the fact that it's a 17 inch laptop, and hence not really portable at all isn't an issue, because most older individuals do not live a mobile life like we do. They don't want to do their computing from a cafe or a friend's house. And unlike a desktop, there are no cables to have trouble connecting.

Some mighty fine assumptions you have their, young fella. I was with you about the slower processor and gaming, but my experience with post-retirement adults shows them using all kinds of portable devices outside the home. Ipads, ipod touches and readers abound, with fewer using dedicated mp3 players.

I have a similar model at home (but with better processor and graphics). For those of you thinking about using the Blu-Ray for travel, you'll want to get a travel charger as it won't let you run the blu-ray on the battery.

My wife has used an HP DV4 laptop for about 4 1/2 years now and it's held up great. Only needing to update the driver for the SD card reader. I bought this one today for normal (non-gaming) use at the house, looks like a good deal. The processor is 1.4ghz, but boosts to 2.3ghz when needed, or so I've read on Tiger Direct for the same laptop for $650 after shipping. A lot of HP haters on here, but this will be my 3rd in about 10 years with the last one still fully functional. Happy buying wooters, regardless of the 90 warranty, I think this is a great buy!

Flipping things open and taping things down is not what I would call adequate technological servicing. If you are so disgruntled working with a specific product, then why don't you simply say, "I don't feel justified working on this particular product and suggest you return it to the manufacturer."?...

Look, there's a reason why 99% of the refurbed laptops on Woot are HPs. They have no concern for quality control or for their customers. You want facts and scientific procedures? I had an HP laptop where the backlight stopped working 1 month after warrantee. They wanted $600 to repair it. Problem turned out to be a $13 inverter I replaced myself in 15 minutes. BUT HERE'S THE KICKER: a class action suit proved that HP knew from the gitgo the part was defective and would fail, but used them anyway, gambling that most would fail outside of warranty! If you don't believe me, Google it.

The graphics processor inside the AMD APU is much better than Intel's stock graphics. However the Intel X86 (CPU) performance is higher than AMD for the same clockspeed.

Perhaps it is that Woot has a contract to sell them and not as many Toshibas? Or that a lot of fleets of HPs are leased and then returned? This reminds me of the old Iomega Zip drive "click of death" rumor. Yes it happened, but when you compare the number of fails to the number of drives sold, it was a tiny amount.

Just ordered one using the HP Pavilion Entertainment Tablet (refurb) that I bought from Woot! 3 years ago. I have been looking for a replacement for this machine for a while now. I just wish this had the Core I7 instead. But, cheap buyers can't always be choosers. The same model with I7 new ranges from $800 to $1200. I think I just got a screaming deal.

And for all you out there spanking your flying monkey, get over it.
