Is this the one Ashton is running around snapping pics of anything that's not Demi in the commercial?

I used to love Kodak digital cameras. I have a couple myself, and have given them to my kids as gifts over the years. However, I won't buy them anymore, and recommend you avoid them as well.
Without exception, the retractable lens assembly has failed on *EVERY SINGLE KODAK CAMERA* we've owned.
The first time, it happened while the camera was in warranty, so it was serviced and we were happy. It happened again, however, a few months after the warranty expired. The same thing happened with our next Kodak camera, again right after the warranty expired. My daughter has had two--BOTH had the same thing happen. My son had one, too, and--yup: you guessed it--he experienced the same problem. Apart from the first one, each failed shortly after the warranty expired.
In my opinion, save yourself some trouble and buy a different camera. I now own a Nikon.

Define "problem" and "lousy." I find most of these problems go away when the camera is used for normal shots in normal light. Amateurs expect miracles from digital cameras that they did not expect from film cameras with the same specifications. Go figure.

garylehr wrote:John, I just purchased your book from the AC Press website, from what I see so far it is very informative and easy for even the most amateur digital camera user to understand and learn from. I'm not sure if it's okay to recommend a forum poster's product instead of woot's, maybe if I say that if you buy the camera then you definitely should buy the book too.... off the record, the book's great even if by some chance you don't buy the camera!
Thanks for the comments! If it wasn't on Amazon, I wouldn't even mention it, as that would be unfair.
But my point is that, over the years, I have dealt with thousands of beginners' questions, and you start to see a pattern.
Right now, it is critical to match the specs of the camera with your needs. And this involves checking the max ISO, the largest aperture and then seeing if this will work for the shots you hope to take.
In a few years, we will laugh at some of what is being offered today (just like all tech stuff!) But for now, we work with what we have...and remember to have fun and take a lot of shots!
