This will sound like heresy to musicians, but I think what separates iconic guitarists from merely great guitarists has as much to do with look as with sound. You gotta give the youngsters a stance to emulate, a style to imitate, and most of all, a distinctive guitar to worship. Go ahead: try to identify the eight guitarists in this week's Trivial Eye by their guitars and the way they hold them. I bet you'll know more than you think, without hearing a note...

Answers can be found by clicking here. Please post your guesses, speculations, or arguments below! But know this: the Trivial Eye is presented for public amusement and no prizes are offered other than that familiar feeling of aggravation that so much of your mind is occupied by useless trivia.

I got five! More than I expected when I saw what the topic was this week.

Also amusing is that Toon and I were talking just a few weeks ago about how he's seen Guitar #3 in person.

Hi, I'm one of the writers. My powers are limited but I'll do what I can.

Not my cup of tea. Could only get 3. *sigh*

I, too, got 6. Missed Joan Jett and Johnny Ramone. I was expecting to see Pete Townsend and/or Stevie Ray Vaughn.
This was fun.

OK, I officially suck. I could only get Chuck Berry and Woody Guthrie. But hey, what do you expect, I'm a banjo guy. Not that I would have had much luck telling Earl Scruggs' banjo from Abigail Washburn's.

I missed #4 and couldn't produce Nielsen's name, so am giving myself partial credit for "the guy from Cheap Trick."

I was hoping there would be Gilmour's black Strat. Oh Well, I only got 3 of them correct.

Got 'em all!

Sheesh. I missed Joan Jett and Woody Guthrie--both of whom I should have gotten.

What, no Brian May and his Red Special? Now THAT's a pretty cool guitar too. He made it himself with the help of his father.

Fun quiz, by the way. Thanks!

I win the bet! I thought I'd know at least 2, but only knew 1. What do I win?

The only bad part about this one is that 3, 5, 7, and 8 could be done from a picture of the guitar alone.

Well, I gotta save some for the next time I do this. Thanks for playing, dudes!

Also #2 and #8 - or whatever variations those guys were touring with when I saw them.
