We absolutely LOVE our neato! We have a dog that sheds like the Bubba Bo Bob Brainens and this saves us so much headache! It does an amazing job, and is so much better than the Roomba.

A few comments to add about roomba vs. neato...

- Neato is louder, maybe by 25%.. significant to my hearing.

- Roomba picks up pet hair on my rug a a bit better.

- Roomba though could seldom make it on to my rug without help... contrast I suspect, dark rug, light wood floors.

- Emptying the Neato and cleaning it out is FAR more easy. This reason alone makes it a much better choice!

- Roomba was kind enough to clean under my sofas. Neato is too smart to go there. Advantage Roomba there. It was nice not having dust bunnies under there.

- Neither can make it over the threshold between my dining room and kitchen. I have to manually lift them into the kitchen. Oh well.

My roomba, BTW, committed suicide... it bumped into a small side table, knocked over a glass of water on to itself... dead roomba. Bummer. I'm thinking of seeing how much it costs to get it fixed... just to have for elsewhere in the house.

The recommended 6' area around the machine dock is simply that, a recommendation. Where we have our dock there is maybe 3' in front of it. And then our dining set sits in front of this.

Oh wait here's a listing on eBay, new for 250...

But it IS $100 off retail for this exact item from some other sites...

However, the only expensive thing I ever bought from Woot was half-defective.

tl;dr WOOT WOULD MAKE MORE MONEY BY SELLING STUFF WE CAN AFFORD/IS USEFUL.

Ugh. I'm so tempted. The Costco one would cost me $360 with tax but comes with Costco's return policy. Buy it here with a squaretrade warranty and it's $350 or roll the dice and no warranty saves $60 bucks. I don't have enough time now to obsess and pro and con this deal to death.

ARgghh...9 minutes. That's it. I'm out. I'll buy the one at Costco and if it's great I'll return it and buy the Woot! one to save $60. Next time it's offered. :p

Been looking for a replacement Roomba for the one I bought 5 yrs ago. I'm not ready to jump into a new namebrand after one ran daily for that long on a scheduler. Amazon, please don't kill woot.com with crap I miss my USB toys too.

If you read reviews and everything else people were posting, 99% or more consider this unit hugely better than the Roomba. Not "crap".

Yeah--I disagree with this one. I used to vacuum regularly until we got this. I ran this for the first time two days after vacuuming with an upright, and the bin was so full that I had to replace it three times during one cleaning. It cleans far better than a regular vacuum. I don't know why, but it does. After that, I haven't touched the upright. I own two of these and they've been keeping our house spic and span for three months now.

You may be able to use FedEx's track by reference feature to find if yours has shipped and the tracking number. Use your Woot order number as the reference and enter your zip code:

https://www.fedex.com/AltRefTracking

I also haven't received a shipment notice from Woot, but according to FedEx mine shipped out on Monday!

It ships from Pennsylvania, and FedEx reports mine shipped yesterday by ground. So those on the east coast will get theirs fast, and me, being as far away contiguously as possible, am looking at mid next week.

Sorry for the delay. We're trying to get the tracking from the vendor loaded in on our side, which should be in soon. In the meantime, if you use the reference number trick, you should be able to find the shipment with FedEx.

After searching for a replacement battery for the one that failed in the Roomba I bought from Woot a few years ago, this Neato came up. After watching the comparison video, I bought it. It arrived yesterday and today my wife tried it out. She couldn't tell me if it was faster or louder as she closed the doors to the room and then ran some errands while it ran. When she got back, it was done and she said it did a much better job than the Roomba ever did, noting that the hard wood floor was "shinier". If she's happy, I'm happy with my purchase.

Ordered mine on 3-16 (like everyone else)
The unit arrived today 3-23.

The box was in perfect shape as the carrier handled it nicely.

Un-boxed the unit and read through the manual.

Set up the charging base and sat the robot in front of it and "connected" them. Nothing.

Opened the charging base and plugged the charging brick directly into the robot. Again, nothing.

Put the volt meter on the AC cord and tested (not that I expected it to be faulty) with the expected result of the proper line voltage.

Put the volt meter on the output of the brick and it was dead as a hammer.

A dead power brick straight out of the box.

Called Neato support and advised them of where the unit was purchased and what the situation was.

They were very apologetic for the inconvenience and are sending another, entire charging base kit.

No fuss, no muss, no hassle other than the original being DOA. Very friendly folks.

I'll advise as to my opinion of the unit itself as soon as I get to use it.

I got my neato yesterday 3/23 and gave it a trial run at night after letting it charge the whole day. It did a pretty decent job and left the carpet with nice straight line vacuum pattern, just like they said it would.

The amount of dust it picked up was absolutely disgusting, I am ashamed!

Being a fairly big house the neato ran out of juice 2/3 way done and returned to it's base for recharge before heading out again.

My parents have been using the Roomba for about 2 years now, this is definitely a step above the best of Roomba. The fact that it knows where it is and how the surrounding room looks like makes it a no brainer compared to Roomba.

Sorry to hear about your DOA, pallenthomas, hope it works out!

Got mine on Thursday, and tried it out over the weekend. We have a 3-level townhouse, and so far have tried on the top and ground floors.

My wife loves it. So far I'd say it has exceeded my expectations. Buzzed through the carpeted living room (fairly large room) thoroughly and efficiently. Kitchen is wood floors; I was thinking I'd have to manually place it in that room and run it because of the raised section in the threshold between the kitchen and living room. Nope! Made its own way.

So I was pleasantly surprised. Mostly just let it do its thing while I either went out or did something in other rooms. But it was fun to watch it navigate around obstacles, under kitchen chairs and tables, etc. Seems like a very efficient and fine-tuned navigation algorithm.

It methodically traveled from room-to-room-to-hallways and seemed to fully cover what it could. For a minute it looked like it was going to get stuck and would need to be rescued from trying to climb on top of a scratching post with a raised carpeted base that was too high for it to get over. It spent a little time tipped backwards trying to get on or off. Eventually it gave up and continued with the floor.

I saw a lot of comments about the volume. We didn't think it was that loud. Like the guy in the review vid on page 1 said, maybe you wouldn't want to watch TV in the same room with it, but you can barely hear it in the next room. Definitely quieter than our vacuum, and even quieter than the portable dirt devil.

Was able to get through the entire level on a single charge. I emptied it before doing the next floor the following day, and it was mostly full. But it packs crap in there pretty tight, so it may have been able to keep going for another room or two.

I did have one issue where the Neato kept stopping in the same spot by the top of the stairs and when I found it, it said the brush was clogged. The brush wasn't really clogged, I think perhaps it was getting tangled by some worn, loose carpet in that corner that was still well-attached to the ground but had some loose strands.

After the 2nd time I just put the baby gate up in that spot, problem solved. Alternatively the Neato comes with 15 feet of boundary marker, basically magnetic stripping you can cut and set down to act like a wall for it. But the gate worked fine there.

Overall, extremely satisfied so far.

Have had mine since Thursday.

Ran it and when finished I emptied a fully packed dust bin.
Ran it again and it was almost half full.

Have run it every day and little by little there has been less and less dust in the bin.
The wife is happy.

I will say this has problems going over a thin threshold to the bathroom which is maybe 1/4" to 3/8".

It also has a problem going over a small area rug in my daughters room.

It does get through and cleans them, but I'm suprised over such a short threshold and rug.

Same here. I'm in AZ and it has said that is has been in PA since last Wednesday (3/21). I'm hoping that there's just a snafu with the tracking updates and that it will truly be here tomorrow, the "estimated arrival" date.

I'm also a little worried about m3rdpwr's comments about low threshholds and area rugs. The area I want this for is a combination of carpet, tile, and area rugs so I really hope it works.

Thanks for the reassurance. I sincerely hope you don't have a problematic Neato.

Mine arrived today, charged in a couple of hours, and it worked pretty well for the first round, much better the second time. It seemed to manage most of the tile-to-carpet, tile-to-rug, and carpet-to-rug boundaries just fine.

It only got stuck in one spot (twice in the same spot), where it was simultaneously rounding a corner and moving onto an area rug at its corner (where the binding is the thickest).

The first time, I had to keep picking it up and pulling stuff like hair ties and twist ties out of the brush. (I had been over the area looking for anything bigger than a crumb before starting it.) My interference caused it to get lost at the end of its run, flagging an "unable to navigate" message a few times.

Worried about the "unable to navigate" error, I set the bot to run a second time. There was far less noise and no issues, no getting stuck or losing its base. The tile part of the floor was actually shiny and I have never seen the carpet more clean. With the exception of a couple of tiny areas, this bot made my floor cleaner than I can with an upright vacuum or a broom.

And it was fun to watch the bot snuggle up to its charging base. It wiggles its rear end as it backs up. Too cute.

My Neato showed up yesterday and I tested it out a little then and fully today.

I have 3000 sq ft on my main floor, the Neato has to charge itself twice to get through the whole job.

The Opportunities:

  • I have an open layout, but where I would like the docking station to stay is in a spot the Neato struggled to get back to. To the Neato's credit it had to navigate the length of the house to get back home. I picked a more centralized spot and got over it.
  • I bought a thick 5x7 shag rug from Costco recently, the Neato spins its tires quite a bit trying to navigate across the rug. Never got fully stuck but the Neato wasted a bit of time and battery life on the thing. For the full run today I folded the rug over onto itself once so the Neato skips it completely. Takes two second to flip the rug up or back.
  • Got stuck on one nightstand, I moved the night stand one inch over and the Neato is cool with it now.

The Good:

  • With the charger in a central location the Neato's self charging is great and fun to watch.
  • I was able to update the firmware from 2.4 to 2.6 without any issues.
  • Not as loud as I had prepared for. The thing is a vacuum, and users here posted it was crazy loud. I would say it is 50% as loud as my regular Dyson vacuum. I slept with it cleaning on the same floor, but I do sleep soundly.
  • I have a skittish dog that never so much as barked at the Neato. The intelligent pathing must make it seem like a robotic animal with a job to do, so my dog leaves it to its mission.

Overall I'm very happy with this purchase. Very cool!
