With Bass, i'd recommend garlic mashed potatoes and a small salad.

And, of course Socré Italian Barbaresco

Great product. Sound quality is awesome. The only problem I've run into is using this device with the stock Xbox video adapter instead of HDMI.

Also, using the standard composite outputs on your TV will allow this device to be used with any device supplying audio through the TV.

I can use these with my PS3, 360, or regular TV.

Just recently picked up a 7.1 headset for my PC. Note that in order to listen to 5.1 using Dolby Digital for video games, your sound card needs to support Dolby Digital Live. Not all sound cards do, especially some of the Realtek chips that are built-in to the motherboards of popular off-the-shelf PC's. I was tricked into thinking that since my PC's motherboard has an digital TOSLINK-out that it would support DDL, but I had to buy another sound card (Creative X-Fi Titanium).

Once I did, I was loving full 5.1, but I haven't quite figured out how to achieve full 7.1 yet. I'm thinking it's probably not necessary in games since 5.1 is plenty!

I use them with my PC on a 3D TV playing Battlefield 3 and it honestly feels like I'm in the game. They work with PC/Mac...just make sure you have digital audio out. Great sound accuracy, decent bass response. For under $100, it's a great deal...at this price it's a steal.

First off I'm actually wearing thus headset right now, checking woot between forza races. My opinion, after owning 3 turtle beach headsets, is these are great. Considering turtle beach charges $70 for the dss alone this is a great deal.

own this exact headset for use with my pc. I think it's a bit overprice for what you get. the sound is good (not great) and the foam mic cover falls off constantly. the bass isn't the best but i dont get any distortion.

Yeah I just bought a pair of X12's two weeks ago, wishing I had gotten this deal instead to get the DSS.

RE: Bass
..is okay, but if you want lots of bass go with this headphones replacement, the x12. It has a bass adjustment knob and gets really bassy.

The x12s are $60 without the DSS, but I've seen them on sale as low as $30.

This isn't the best deal I've ever seen, but these include the DSS surround sound processor that simulates surround sound over the headphones. $60 is the vanilla headphones. You can't get the DX11 anymore. They've been replaced by the DX12s at $130, which is the X12 headset and the DSS2 processor together.

The new headset has an adjustable bass boost, no idea of what the changes for the DSS2 are.

Xbox and PC. It has standard headphone & mic connectors.

According to this ingenious 14 year old you can buy a cheap USB soundcard and make it work though.

If you're on the fence about getting a headset with surround sound, I recommend you first put an ordinary pair of headphones on and listen to this video:

This is why I'll never buy a surround sound headset---stereo headphones seem to be all our brains really need.

Here's the thing...Sound isn't everything.

I play PC Games...and I have a good sized, but not huge melon and I had these extended all the way and they still didn't come down far enough to cover my ears properly. So I had to take them back because I got a pretty nasty headache from the lack of cushioning on the top of my dome and just general discomfort from wearing these for anything more than 30mins.
Oh, and when you incorporate the DSS (which I'm suspect of the labeling for this on the DX11 model) you are adding a rats nest of wires. I ended up with a different Gaming headset that was the same price as these, but brand new, with a single single extra long USB cord and are very comfy. Even if they sound fantastic... bottomline, if they are uncomfortable, it's no deal even for $5.

Y'all are looking at the X11:

Hmm.. the X11s ARE stereo headphones. The surround sound aspect is the DSS taking a normal 7.1 output and converting it to virtual surround sound... much like that video is doing.

These are really a great headset! I am big fan of Turtle beach. These are my main headset. The bass is a little weak. And yes you will have cords everywhere! They are nice and comfortable. I would to totally buy these again. But they wrap up nicely and the main cords do have have a velcro strap. I have an older "phat" xbox 360 and you will require this cable to have 7.1:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10830&cs_id=1083005&p_id=7526&seq=1&format=2

If you have the newer Xbox 350 S you do not need that cable the Toslink is on the system.

These do work on PC but to have 7.1 or surround sound you will need a compatible sound card that has a toslink link connection. For example when connecting to my system I had to specifically tell the sound card to output sound through the toslink and tell it I have a external sound processor (the dss box). My sound card card only pumped out 4.1. That was the limitation of my sound card, not the headset.

I also setup it up to work on my tv system but it only works as stereo. I used the rca connection from my system to go to the rca cable one the dss box.I guess I could setup as surround sound but I would have to rewire every device, with every use. Its really nice to put on the headset if its late and don't want to wake up the neighbors. I put these everytime I do gaming on the xbox 360.

Usually you have two options to get surround sound.

1) Straight from the Xbox 360 via Optical out (whether on the 360 itself on some models, via a breakout on the component adapter, or via the separate "audio adapter" http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Cable-Adapter-XBOX-360-Slim/dp/B002P35JMO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1331991524&sr=8-1)
2) Through your TV or Receiver with the Xbox connecting via HDMI, and the Receiver or TV having Optical out.

Which is to say, these can be connected *either* to the Xbox directly, or to the TV or Receiver.
You have to watch the Xbox 360 5.1 output over HDMI though - it apparently really really really wants to drop down to stereo even when you have 5.1 selected in the settings. On my setup, Xbox->HDMI->Receiver->HDMI->TV, when the Receiver allows the TV to receive audio as well as outputting it, the Xbox 360 drops down to stereo output. Changing the receiver setting to not output audio to the TV, the Xbox 360 outputs 5.1 only if the receiver is on and ready for awhile before the Xbox turns on. Turning them on simultaneously results in the Xbox dropping down to stereo output.
So I recommend the "audio adapter" and direct connection via Optical cable if you want to be sure you have 5.1 sound.

Just a note to COD and multiplayer shooter fans, these babies almost eliminate some perks like "ninja" where you can't hear someone's footsteps. The sound quality for having that type of edge in the game makes these worth having!

I use one of these for my regular Xbox games and when I need it, for my PC. The cord is super long, sound quality is great, and the DX11 simply rocks.

I was about to buy a wireless model at a big box store when a fellow gamer told me to "downgrade" and get this model because it was better in his opinion. I've never tried the wireless headset and I don't feel the need to do so.

If I didn't already have one I'd be all over this.

You owe us a PS3 capable headset, woot!

Technically speaking, these will allow you to get surround sound from a PS3 or any other device that has an optical audio output and an unused USB port for power.
The main drawback to using these with a PS3 is that the DX11s will *NOT* provide on-line chat capability for the PS3, since that system uses a different Bluetooth protocol for chat than the XBOX360 uses for its wireless controllers.

In for three.

If $200 headphones don't cut it for you for playing video games maybe your expectations are unrealistic?

I have used the Turtle Beach headphones before and they were pretty cool for someone who hasn't used gaming headphones before. My xbox addict friend will only play MW2 if he has his headphones.

*******************************************

Face, I just pulled the trigger on the Turtle beach X41 wireless setup 2 weeks ago. I had the old, original TB EarForce X1s, which are wired, and stereo only, and I wanted to upgrade to at least 5.1 surround.
Since I don't mind being wired to the 360, I tried in vain to find one of the original DSS units included here to plug my X1s into (There were just too many complaints against the newer DSS2) and eventually succumbed to "gotta have it now" syndrome and impulse-purchased the X41s at Wally World.

Having positional/surround sound audio has been a game-changer for me in MW3! With the old Stereo X1's, I could HEAR faint sounds, but I couldn't pinpoint their location very well.
I play mostly in hard-core mode, and now I can get a pretty god idea of where the threat is before I attempt to eliminate it.

While the wireless headset is "nice to have", it hasn't been a big deal for me, and, being wireless, mine do occasionally pick up noise from other devices, but not very often. However, I now need 2 sets of rechargeable batteries dedicated to the headset: 2 AAAs for use in the headset, and one more in the charger "at the ready",for when the others fail (invariably in the middle of a match). I probably get 20 - 30 hours of game time per charge.

The Take-away from all this blathering?
- I wish this offer had come last month... I would have saved myself about $80 on the headset, and another $10 for rechargeable batteries!

One other thing: Check your X360 to see if you have an optical audio output! if you don't, you will need an adapter cable, or an optical audio output from your surround sound receiver or TV in order to get true surround sound.

I owned a pair of these for a year or 2 before I upgraded to the wireless ones (X41). Gotta say they were a great set of headphones when playing my shooters. The surround sound of these things really work even though it baffles me since its only 1 speaker per ear and they have saved my life in the games too many times to count.

Even watching movies it was great to add the surround sound over my standard tv speakers.
