Does the volume get loud enough to use for outdoor functions, like a BBQ or something?

A buck and a half --$150 -- at the Apple Store.
About $80 if you purchase online from mother ship Amazon. Generally good reviews. Looks like a steal.
Good review here.

My car radio was stolen... and I have a bad wheel bearing, will this be loud enough to "silence the constant droning noise and will it work on 12vdc?

How does this compare to other similar docks from Klipsch and Bose?

Thanks Woot! I've been looking for something just like this! This will be perfect to use in various locations around the house.

The reviews on Amazon look pretty good and the price is not bad either.

In for one!

Did I miss the tone or EQ controls?

How does one boost the bass?

You use the built-in EQ controls on your iPhone, iPod, or what-not...

My dad got me a similar Altec Lansing model as a gift I'm happy with everything about it. It sees daily use and it has well outperformed my expectations. Travels great too.

I have an older model..same features, but all black, and it sounds very good. Since I am not a home theater buff, I sometimes use it with a projector I have to watch movies. Battery lasts a long time.

It's built for outdoor use, so yeah, it's probably loud enough, but fix the bearings, budd. And AC only. If you need to recharge after the 5-hour battery runs down, you'll need to have one of those cig lighter converters.

That's asking a bit much from this or any unit this size. You might consider an FM transmitter and place several radios around the area.

On the 3GS at least, the docking connector audio is strictly "line-out". No tone, EQ or volume adjustment on the phone itself to alter the audio. You'd have to use the 3.5mm jack on the top and connect to the Aux input on the docking station for if you want to use the EQ.

I hope it's not just the coconut rum talking (Happy St. Patty's Day!), but I'm in for one.

I have this, and I would say so. The sound quality goes down a little at the higher volumes, but not enough to notice in such a setting. All in all a very good stereo.

Also, if anyone has any questions about one of these, feel free to ask, I'll try to answer them by tomorrow mid-afternoon ish.

How rowdy do things get at your BBQs?
Apple says, in a graph that sounds as if it has been translated into English, that it oughta work.
"Apple Recommends For

Outdoors, indoors, with friends or alone, the inMotion Classic for iPhone or iPod helps make the world sounds better."

Does it work with 4th gen iPod Touch? I know it says 1st and 2nd gen but I'm hopeful...

**Nevermind! Amazon answered my question with a resounding YES! It does work with 4th gen! I'm probably going to buy it then...

Just bought one of these two weeks ago off Amazon for my office. There was a little hassle with the firmware version -- apparently there is a bug in some of their earlier versions that will cause the audio to cut out when using an iphone on lower volumes. But I contacted Altec-Lansing support, shipped it off to them, and got it back with updated firmware within two weeks, free of charge. Works great now. Definitely recommend.

I bought one of these things at Costco in 2010, for something like seventy bucks. It works well. The battery lasts 2 hours if it needs to charge an iPhone. Five hours with no iPhone is the spec but in my experience, its only 4 hours max. Wish there was a way to stop the iPhone from charging to extend the battery life of the speakers with the iPhone. You can, however, use the included 3.5mm stereo jack and play the iPhone out of the dock. I think this is a great price for the unit and highly recommend it.

It says compatible with 3GS but does anyone know if it'll work for a 4S?

I have this model. This is a great product. I bought it because it works on a rechargeable battery and is great for the outdoors. It has terrific sound. Bose has a model which is about ten times more expensive and might be a little better, but not at anywhere near this price. For fifty bucks, this is an excellent deal.

Going by your recommendation I'm buying myself 1. What the heck right? I'm worth $55. ;)

Off to place my order. I never buy only 1 item, it;s going to feel weird.

Same here. What did everyone run away from ? A well priced item? They whine when it's a great tablet at a great price but no one's talking about this. Maybe they're all still partying for St Patty's day.

This is great info. I've noticed this problem with my unit, which has SW ver. 123. My guess is that the refurbished units have the new SW.

Seems Funny to me that the woot gods can break down and sell a different brand of robot vacuum that contradicts previous sales.

but they cannot sell a dock for my zune.

Grrr.

I've had my Altec Lansing iMT620 inMotion Classic for 3 years which I bought from J&R for $99.00 normally $149.00. I can honestly say with all the electronic stuff I go through, this was on the top five list of the best purchases. For this price you will NOT be disappointed.
