I really wish these had Airplay. I ended up recently getting the 1021k and love it. My gf uses the Airplay feature every morning while getting ready.

Is this better than the Denon 1312 I got from Woot last week?

I got this on the last Woot off. I must say this receiver is awesome.

I like it, but the Bluetooth adapter is $79/99 additional and no airplay. Fail.

I really really really dont like Pioneer.

Can't really say hate, cause I didn't give them anymore chances.. but it was pretty close...

Every single Pioneer item that I ever owned.. failed to work after the first 6 months.

And yes I take very good care of my stuff, I just dunno why their stuff sucks.

Tire swings are the bomb regardless of age

i picked one of these up a few months ago on woot. i've been very happy with it. however, it's supposed to have hdmi pass-through, so you can use it to hook everything up, but still use your tv speakers and not the surround sound. i didn't have any luck with it, but that may have something to do with my tv and not the receiver.

i don't really mind because surround sound is always awesome as far as i'm concerned...but my wife doesn't always agree when i'm watching tv while she's trying to sleep.

I never could figure out how you get 5.1 speakers. What is that, right front, left front, right rear, left rear, and a thin-sliced center speaker?

that only adds up to 4.1. the center speaker is a whole number. the sub is .1, so it must be the thinly-sliced one.

the .1 represents a subwoofer.

.1 is always a subwoofer. Front right and left, front center (dialog and such in movies) right and left rear, and a subwoofer.

Well, I bought 3 3-D Adventure puzzles, 3 Nerf speakers, and 3 wine totes and this stereo system pops up and clogs my mojo... wish I could help, but I just got a new one of these from Best Buy.

The .1 is the subwoofer.

So Left / Right / Front / Back / Center + Sub

I've been with WOOT for 7 years now. This has to be the worst WOOT ever!!!!!

Need to speed it up !!!!!!!!!!!!

jyg

I purchased this in the last Woot off. I like it alot. But, be aware that it is a very simple unit. There's no conversion, esp. between interfaces. So no sending video from you bluray player over HDMI and sending it to your projector over component. Also its 5.1 though it can masquerade as 6.1 or 7.1 with an external amp.

This works well with my Harmony300 remote.
"
The only really issue is that my Samsung c5500 bluray player will cause the reciever to freak out and blink a full screen of magenta if the player is plugged into the BD HDMI slot and the receiver is turned on before the player. However if I plug the player into the DVD port it does not have this problem and video resolution is the same and quality
unchanged.

The most annoyingly missing feature us the lack of ability to reassign devices.

Overall, for what it promises, i like it. But it doesnt promise a lot. Im probably going to buy the bluetooth receiver.

Hope that helps.

To be clear, the receiver will sense which speakers are connected and provide the appropriate output. If you only hook up two speakers, you'll soon want to hook up more.

I tried this too. came to the conclusion that my TV doesn't support it. I hooked it up with a digital audio cable(fiber optic) from the TV to the reciever. Left all the connections in the TV. works fine. I can use my TV speakers without turning on the surround unit.

redb2112 wrote:Is this better than the Denon 1312 I got from Woot last week?

I bought one and sold my 1312 on craigslist. My reasons are for these features that the Denon didn't have:

1) ARC - audio return channel - allows the apps on my TV (e.g. Netflix) to send audio back through the HDMI cable w/o requiring an additional fiber audio cable run from the TV.

2) HDMI CEC - causes the receiver to turn on and off when the TV goes on and off

3) Automatic room calibration - you stick a microphone where you normally sit, and have the receiver calibrate the correct volume levels for all speakers

And then on top of that, it was cheaper. I'm sure people will argue that the Denon sounds better. I don't know. Personally I can't tell. The denon has a nice onscreen display that the Pioneer doesn't. That's about the only thing I liked better on the Denon.
