singletrackslayer wrote:If I need the cables to be longer, how do I go about doing so? How far can one run BNC cables?

We run co-ax cables (with BNC terminations) across entire, massive high-schools. Remember you also need to run power for the camera or power it locally. Another option is a balun to adapt the co-ax to cat5 or cat6 (they are not expensive: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=110&cp_id=11011&cs_id=1101101&p_id=6879&seq=1&format=2 )

If you run outside the house you need to look into lightning protection.

Sorry. About 1000 feet if you use either RG6 or Balun-to-UTP and back.

Regarding customer service: I had them help me set up my network and my Android phone and they were the BEST. Sure I had to wait 10-15 minutes, but, to speak to a "NON-OUTSOURCED," C.S. rep in Illinois, it was worth it. One mount was broke when I installed it, they shipped a new one within a week. Their CS is what WILL make me buy another system from them.

Forget the spider... did you hear the car hit the other car then speed off? lol..

every time I go to buy this I read a bad review and I resist spending $100-$200 that might be a waste.

Wish I would have seen this earlier. Was too busy cleaning out the boss' computer from the Alureon-K Virus.. Took three days!.

My main question is... can I use an IDE drive? I have a 40gb lying around that I can use. If it's possible, then I'm in.

I will send you my 8 camera system I bought from Z modo last summer. I would pay YOU to take it off my hands.

lol. It is almost that bad, buddy. My advice: Don't make the plunge. You can view the cameras on your TV in good lighting, but the ability to log in remotely to it is a bunch of BS. I have worked in IT for years and could not get it to work consistently for viewing/controlling from a PC on the same router/network. Yuck.

When I upgraded to the 8 channel, I put a 250GB into the 4 channel. Worked without a problem.

Just sayin . . .

I bought this and never even installed it. I am waiting for a wireless version. The wifey doesn't like the idea of me drilling in to the walls to run the cables.

I purchased the 4 cam Zmodo system with a 500gb HD for $209 on Amazon. The exact cameras as this system. I live in the city so I have the benefit of street and alley lights. These cameras are decent for night vision. During the day the image is very clear. If the sun is bright the image has a lot of contrast. The best images are on cloudy days. Even for $200 with a hard drive, I have no major complaints. I've set it up for internet viewing and Android use. It works well. No crashing of the DVR at all!! The instructons suck! If you don't know what an IP address is you will have problems. I also tossed the cheap 60ft cables that are included. I bought a 500ft box of Siamese RG59/Power cable for $60 on Ebay. I fished all locations under my house soffits. This system packs a ton of value for 200 bucks!!

Pardon the interruption....

It’s almost time for another round of Woot! Clue! to guess the next product up for sale.

Style is 20 Questions. Ask Yes/No questions and I'll answer. ONE question limit per post.
I want to bring the game back to the true play of 20 questions where you ask questions that help narrow down the possibilities for the item. That means your questions should start broad and then narrow in as more answers and clues become available.

NEW: The following questions will not be answered until noted:
• Sold on Woot previously: Not allowed. Will not be answered.
• Brand name starts with a-k, l-z, f-g, etc.: Not allowed. Will not be answered.
• Pricing info: Not allowed. Will not be answered.
• Random guesses about the product not related to the clues, questions, and answers at hand may be ignored
• You cannot answer with just a link to another site. I don’t have time to follow links to verify. Give the name and include the links if you want but no link only answers.

Most often the answer requires the manufacturer, name, model, size, or other pertinent information for the product.

INFO: Join us at about an hour before the next sale launches (11pm CST) for a game of Woot!
Clue! where y’all try to guess the next product that will be for sale on a Woot site. The game ends at 11:55pm before RSS feeds and Tweets go out about the sales.

The game will move around but you can always find it by checking the Quality Posts on the Woot! main page (Discussion box). It will always be announced there.

ELIGIBILITY: Everyone plays. You can be the correct guess once a week. You can play all the time but only guess if you are eligible, please. Share the fun!

NOTICE: Woot! Clue! is going to take a break after this week as we evaluate and reassess the game and possible future events for the community.

CONGRATS TO wookielnx! Tonight's correct guess!!!

Make sure it's a DVR rated hard drive. A standard PC SATA drive will probably burn out prematurely.

These are consider a form of wiretapping, if your babies resides in America but you don't work for the NSA then a FISA warrant would be needed. Your babies could hold you negligent for the violations of their civil rights.
