Put them on a dolly. Durrr!

I usually just copy it over the network, unless it's really large or I'm moving stuff to a computer not on my network. Then I use my 1TB USB3 drive that is Trucrypt encrypted.

If it's a stack of large mill files, I agree that stacking them on a dolly might be best. If they're rat-tail files, you would want to secure them with nylon ties first so they don't roll off. But in no case would I drop one onto my thumb drives.

I rip them to vinyl, and then press 180 gram records with the data and off I go, me my record player my locomotive and 300 box cars, and that is just my cat photos

Yep, how large and how far? I prefer to move stuff on the networks. I don't like this "cloud" buzzword, what is it? Basically file servers on the internet instead of at your location. Woo-hoo, let's call it something special for the marketing schlubs.

Depends what your definition of "large" is. A lot of people would say a large files would be a few gig. If so, I'd use a thumb drive.

But it means to me 25-50+ gig. A whole Blu Ray movie or more. In that case, I have an external hard drive I use.

Really depends on large. I would transfer anything under a gig over the internet. 1-10 gig, I would use a thumb drive or portable hard drive. Bigger than that, I tend to just take my actual HD out and carry it to where I am taking the file.

I agree. But in no case do I trust "the cloud". If I don't own the storage media, it doesn't get used.

I have no problem with cloud storage, but since "large" to me means 20 gig or so, it's rare for me to use it on accounta I don't want to wait three days for it to upload.

Having a portable hard drive in your bag is never a bad idea.

I do several things, depending on what kind of files they are.

Super important, go to the cloud AND my portable hard drive (not a thumb drive).

Semi important, goes to my portable hard drive.

Something I need to help or show someone, goes to a thumb drive.

I put it on my PogoPlug cloud device (which I purchased from Woot!). It's the best of both worlds... it's the cloud, but I own it!

Leave them on the workbench. Where else would you want to use them?

Large to me means multi-GB so only an external HD (or SSD) will do.

depends on how large, how much time i have, and the final destination point. if it's going to the office, i can't access cloud storage sites, so it's jump drive or portable hdd, depending on size. if it's to a friend, cloud storage. if it's to be moved within my house, copy it across the network. too many variables and not enough details woot.

TONS of floppy discs

I just setup my own web server at my house, and just drop them to a folder there that allows me to get it from anywhere.

8TB NAS means I rarely have to move anything. I love network storage!

Yeah same, when the battery life is shot on an old Ipod the honorable thing to do is tote them around like lifeless data sacks.

Your parents house or the restroom in your parents house?

Cuz it's a little much to except Ethernet to follow you, um, everywhere you go.
