Reminds me a bit too much of onesaleaday.com The vibe is much more commercial and happy-go-lucky/ in your face, and less sarcastic/ geektastic... I'm trying really hard to like it, though!

I like some aspects of the new design, like the bar across the top, letting us preview the other deals on offer, but why can't we view the prices without clicking through? I suspect you're hoping for more ad views, but I'm probably less likely to consider buying something if I have to check each individual Woot site just to get the prices. Also, the Woot Plus section seems to clutter the interface a bit much, and distracts from the idea that this is a deal-a-day site. Meanwhile, other site features, like the poll, blog and Wootcast require scrolling to view. Even the writeup, arguably a major draw of the site, requires clicking a link from the main page to view.

One other thing thing to point out is that the new design isn't really 1024x768 friendly, and requires horizontal scrolling at that resolution. Normally, I would be on a higher resolution screen, but not on this computer at the moment. According to web statistics, over 15% of page views are still at 1024x768, so it's still definitely worth designing for. Perhaps it's an evil plan to sell more monitors though...

One last thing I just noticed is that the post button for this form appears as a blank white button if I scroll the page at all in Opera. It probably shouldn't do that. : )

It feels weird to me. The one-day one-deal thing seems to be gone, and that is basically what woot is about, what it was founded on.

The funny thing is, while woot was down, I went and found this article from 2008 about how woot came to be, directly from Matt Rutledge himself.

Matt Rutledge launched Woot.com based on a simple concept: The site would sell only one product a day until the inventory ran out or the clock struck midnight, whichever came first.

And woot!plus feels like it totally negates that. Why not a separate site, kinda like deals.woot, maybe plus.woot, with all those deals?

When I started Woot, I wanted it to be a blog and a store at the same time.
...
A very big part of our growth is that you can come to Woot.com and not buy anything, but have a good time reading the story of the day's item or listening to a podcast. Our writers have taken product descriptions to new levels.

Hiding most of the description behind a read more link and links to all the latest blog posts at the very bottom totally defeats those ideas.

We aren't trying to be hucksters. We never try to sell to the dumb consumer. We always try to sell to the smart consumer.

It just feels like now they're trying to pack as many deals as they can into a page, and hope the dumb customers go for them.

Now there are some great things about the new site, and you can nitpick about the design (OH GOD MY EYES ARE BLEEDING FROM ALL THE WHITE), but it doesn't just feel like a new design, it feels like it's not woot.

Also, where is the funny product description? Am I missing something?
edit: Found it. Having to click a link to read the product description? For shame. That's the main selling point of the product, Woot!

They had to make room for more advertising on the front page.

A little too much too fast!

Ya'll don't get too happy about the LIMITED SHIPPING PROMOTION.

SO, Amazon login too now, when can I start using my amazon store card to make purchases on Woot? Make changes that that will really help people where it matters, our pockets,wallets,purses,safes,vaults...not subjective aesthetics.

Reasons why I don't like the new Woot:

1. Extra scrolling needed where it wasn't need before to see all the departments;

2. CSS frame at top makes paging up/down annoying due to covering up part of the page, so I now have to use scroll wheel (see #1 above) or pgdwn + uparrow;

3. Tiny box for comment submission; and

4. Cloudfront.

ETA: You also had to pull this extended downtime right after my first deal posting. I always you knew woot hated me.

I feel in essence you would agree with what I said earlier, Woot! with the new changes seems to have lost it's charm.

I do agree with your point about perhaps creating a new section for the Woot! plus deals, either a plus.woot or perhaps creating an area on the deals.woot section because these go past the 1 day sale idea. Though putting them on deals.woot goes against the community deals idea I suppose and the "plus deals" aren't sponsored.

The top with all the other links is probably the best thing that happened. But in this case it's like someone on the Titanic saying, "The ultra-fast crushed ice machine is great."
macmankev, hit a lot of the problems. (here) http://www.woot.com/forums/viewpost.aspx?postid=5020487
Let me sum it up for you -- THIS AIN"T WOOT!
You can tell the Amazon code crew were in charge of this sad make-over. Busy and full of crap.
Is anyone from WOOT! of old still work there? If so, do none of them have the guts to simply say, "this is/was a really stupid idea. It's not what WOOT! is supposed to be."
.
Hey Amazon slave masters - buying something that works and then remaking it, is a REAL stupid idea!
If it stays this way, I'll contact everyone I turned on to WOOT! to tell them I think it now sucks.

From the Notebook of Lazarus Long:
"Touch is the most fundamental sense. A baby experiences it, all over, before he is born and long before he learns to use sight, hearing, or taste, and no human ever ceases to need it. Keep your children short on pocket money -- but long on hugs."

Sorry not liking this, not linking this at all. Too much going on on the same page. The different woot sites at the top is great, but I fell like the rest is just clutter.

The whole point with Woot was one deal a day and it only had one page to display it. The addition of Woot Home, Kids, Shirts and so on I think was good, but www.woot.com needs to stay true to it's original concept.

That's why I said a plus.woot. If you read through their new FAQ, they talk about "Isn't Woot about 'One Day One Deal'?" and how they want to bring more deals. I feel it cheapens the whole idea of woot. I already put this in the feedback, but I'll just paste what I wrote here:

"Woot!plus feels like you're forcing more deals. The one day, one deal is simple and easy. Less is more. There are plenty of other sites that push as many deals a day as possible, and it's almost all crap. Adding even more deals feels like it dilutes the featured deals of the day. After watching the podcast "Where a Deal Comes From," it's clear that you don't want to push cheap crap (except in bundles of carrots). Though most of the Woot!plus stuff right now doesn't look too crappy, some of it would make great featured deals, there is just too much. There are too many choices."

This new woot feels like a cheap hooker in comparison to the expensive escorts they used to be. Seriously, what the heck??? I understand change is necessary but this is crap and crap is never good. Old woot used to make me think i belong somewhere, the new look just says give me your money, bend over and let me screw you. Old woot was comforting and safe, this look feels like been in ghetto in a strange city somewhere in middle east. And whats with the stupid notification popping up on the buy page when i try to navigate back to the main page. I dont want you to remind me if i have completed the order yet or want to leave. Also where the link directly to the main page from the buy it page? seriously you guys are screwing with my buying habits and i DONT LIKE IT.

I can go to any site on the net and look for discounts and deals, woot! was clean, less busy and a quick peak at something you might buy. It now joins all the other discount sites. I don't shop those pages and most of what I bought on woot! was bought because it felt like a nice place to navigate. I told all my friends and co-workers about woot!, I'd wear the shirts and enjoy them. No more, goodbye woot!

androidnewb wrote:The good:

  • I do like having all the links to the different woot sites up top. That's actually an improvement.
  • I also like the comparison of the current deal price to its list price. Very nice.

The bad:

  • It's too cluttered. The home page tries to be everything at once, and ends up with almost nothing of use on it. The emphasis should be on the current deal, and then the other stuff can be off to the side somewhere out of the way.
  • I have to click links to find out anything about the current deal beyond the price and general category of product. If something is a refurb, I want to know that right away. If a laptop's processor is clocked at 1.3 GHz, I'd like to know that right away too.

The ugly: scripting from multiple domains required for basic functionality? No! Bad woot. Go to your corner.

If woot is becoming a general "deals" site with tons of stuff constantly going on, this new site could work with a bit of polishing. If you want it to stay as the deal-a-day site, I really hope you guys have a backup saved somewhere...

Well-said.

The price went up after a while...

Also, not all of the shirts are printed on American Apparel, occasionally they are but it seems to be rare? A majority are printed on Anvil blank shirts now. Seems most people preferred the AA over Anvil, but I can't say much as I joined after the price increase and change to Anvil blanks.

i feel like, just like stupid changes to facebook (or whatever social network you use), this is a layout everyone will eventually get used to. of course, we will all whine about it first...and i am no exception. im not a fan...so far. honestly the biggest irritation for me was not being able to see if the product on the main page was "new" or "refurbished" without clicking on it. booooooooo. i do like having all of the woot sites (except mooti...) on the top of the page. that being said, personally, i think it has become too "busy" looking for new wooters. i think it will turn off new customers...compared to the simplicity of "previous woot". good luck, though woot. i think this is where i take a break from the site for a bit...

I was just thinking about this. This Amazonification comes after shirt.woot raises prices on shirts from $10 to $12, which is understandable due to rising costs in shirt blanks, inks and labor, then a couple months later switches from high quality AA blanks to cheaper-slightly lower quality- Anvil blanks. It gave many loyal shirt.wooters a bad taste in their mouths and smelled like a bate and switch.

Personally, I think the Anvil blanks are alright, but if you gave me a choice, I'd choose AA, they feel better and fit better. And I am less likely to jump at buying a cool shirt because it isn't a great quality AA shirt (which sell for more if you were to buy a blank one directly from AA yourself).

Just the "(not you?)" logout makes you feel like this isn't woot anymore, it's Woomazon. Amazoot. A real Bunch of Change (not the coveted one, the other kind).

Cluttered, irritating to the eye and redundant. Example of Redundancy: The Woot sites are listed at the top, the Right side and the bottom of the page!!! Top of the page is enough, the others are overkill. Also the Woot Plus link can be put in menu at top of page. Don't need it on main page.

Bottom line: Sucks BIG TIME!!!!!

This site truly sucks for iPhones and tablets. It's slow, jerky when scrolling and the sign in screen is horrible. Did anyone test this site? And the ads! This site, as stated before, is now cluttered and trashy like so many sites offering one item a day. Amazon can't need the money that badly. I hope you switch back or at least clean up this site.

This is probably a stupid Question but there isn't a Woot off today right.

The 19 hours left or until it sells out really doesn't need to be there does it. I mean it is a deal a day site. Was confusing at first.

Correct, there is no woot-off today.

Think about it from a new visitor perspective. Knowing how much time is left in the sale would be very good to know. Especially if they don't read the FAQ to know we go to a new product at midnight CST.
