I purchased this a few weeks ago when it was $60. As long as you're fully aware that you get what you pay for than it is worth it. I use it for very casual surfing when it is inconvenient to use my phone eg looking up a game guide that I can reference continuously, looking up something on Wikipedia or YouTube or pulling up a recipe and propping it up in the kitchen. It also isn't terrible as a cheap kindle.

Yes you can get google play on it. No you cannot upgrade the os as the hardware is incompatible. There are not many fun apps available to it and it is very slow, so not conducive to use beyond the basics.

It's exactly what I wanted it to be so I'm happy with my purchase. My phone is an HTC One X though and this thing doesn't even come close to it in functionality. I didn't need it to though so that's not really a complaint.

1) Yes, you can root it. Info in this forum: http://www.slatedroid.com/forum/135-velocity-cruz-tablet/

2) Yes, you can access Google Play Market.

3) What good is it? First and foremost, you've a great little MP3 player that can connect to your Amazon or Google music libraries, as well as handle 32gb SD cards. What? There's a wootoff? Set this puppy on a certain other .net site and keep an eye on Woot while you actually use your computer for other things.

How about using it as a Kindle? Or a Nook? You can do both.

Yes, it's not super fast, yes, it has limited ram. Big deal - Angry Birds will choke on it, but your messaging works just fine.

And for some reason, it's listed on Woot as having an 800mhz processor rather than the 600mhz reported elsewhere, so it's 1/3rd faster than those crappy 'normal' ones out there.

All in all, in for one.

Can I watch Netflix with this?

Might get one for my dad for simple email stuff when traveling abroad.

Wow. I was all "for fifty bucks, you can't go wrong!"

Then I saw the forums, and the video.

Yup. You can so go wrong. For what few things I would use this for... still not suited. Alas.

I bet the Amazon app market would work but I'm guessing, could be wrong.

Our specs match the Velocity site for the T103.

Make sure you're looking at specs for a T103.

I have a T301 - which is a step up from this, (got it on Woot, go figure). I will say if you go into it with your eyes open, then it can be a fun device.

It is not an iPad, it's not a Xoom, it's not even a Kindle Fire. Do not expect a $50 tablet to give you everything a $600 one would.

No, you won't watch Netflix on it, or Hulu, or Amazon Prime Videos. You might get YouTube.

That said, it is a fun toy. It is a good mp3 player, and not-HD-videos that you have copies of already, or can download off the net, (as in, not streaming).

It is a decent eReader, especially for comics. And it's good for checking email, serving as an alarm clock, playing small games (Angry Birds will not render properly for me, so I mean LIGHT games), doing light web surfing, (Don't expect Flash to work - at least not out of the box). And, as has been mentioned, a picture frame. Oh - or maybe a tablet for the kids... no, not the teens, they will be mad - I mean, KIDS, like 6-12ish.

If that's worth $50 for you, then go for it.

If not - there are great deals on far more capable tablets on other sites (cough - EBAY - cough). I have an Acer Iconia Tab A100 - and you can get those for about $160 now. That is an INCREDIBLE deal. No compromises there. Ice Cream Sandwich, HDMI out, capacitive touch screen, yada yada yada.

Read my blog or, you know, don't. It's up to you.

Well I guess what it is, is that they've updated the T103 model at some point and just kept the same model number. If you look at a lot of the initial reviews of this around the net (including the video on the 1st page where a lack of camera is mentioned), a lot of them specifically mention features (or lack thereof) that are different than what is currently on the T103. For example they upgraded the processor and added the front facing camera.

Cruz has made multiple revisions of their tablets - sometimes keeping the same model number. If Woot says 1 GB, I wouldn't expect 2. But keep in mind, the Woot deal comes with 2 SD cards, which make the storage a LOT more than even 2 GB.

I got one of these last time they were on sale here.

Yes it is slow

It has a MIPs processor thus will not run popular apps that have been "optimized" , that is app utilizing native compiled code as opposed to pure java.
(This means no angry birds or Netflix)

As for google's app market and other Google apps, they are easy to install with the android sdk .

The video review says micro sd. But the specs suggest full size sdhc. Which is it?

Anyone who has it ever pop in an sd card from a camera and review images? I feel like it might have problems viewing an 18mp image.

Can't compare an 800MHz ARM processor to Pentium/AMD CPU - completely different architecture makes them apples and oranges.
