Is this thing up-gradable to any more current OS? Like Gingerbread, Honeycomb, or Ice Cream Sandwich?

I'm Bryan. Nice to meet you, Wooter.

50 bucks for a tablet? Seems like it would make a neat alarm clock for sure! Way better than that sony dash I picked up.

For 50 bucks it doesn't seem like this could do a lot. Someone care to prove me wrong?

This will be gone by Noon just because of the price.

OK...so seriously...someone please explain how this could not be worth fifty bucks?

This seems like it is built on a cell phone platform. After my last tablet I have learned my lesson. It has got to be tablet or computer based design for me, not glorified cell phone.

Can this access the Marketplace (now play)?

Can another version of Android be installed?

Too much hassle, without much to gain.

This tablet is fine for $50 but it doesn't compare at all to the $400+ tablets from the big boys. I'd really say this is more of a toy for the kids than anything else.

It would be a very portable movie player if I needed such a thing for a kid. Plus if you just need something small to casually surf and do light email it might be fine for that too. I already assimilated into the fruit so I don't need this but it loosely resembles my kid's Fire but at 1/4 the price.

You're right, it does nothing well. Well, if your goal is to increase your level of frustration, then yes, it does that very well.

Does anyone know if this can be rooted? Will this support Honeycomb at least? I'm guessing this isn't powerful enough to run ICS but I don't know for sure.

Slower than a tortoise. Tried one from Walmart, booted it, processor was annoying at best as slow as it was. after testing out nook color with custom ROM, Amazon fire, ViewSonic, HTC evo view, Xoom, iPad 2 & 3rd gen, my conscience would not let me keep this in good faith. save the $55 and put it towards a more worthy tablet. IMO.

This is all you need to know:

Processor: 800MHz
RAM: 512MB

All the speed and power of a 14 year old computer! Based on these stats, this is slow as molasses in January.

Why is Woot selling a black brick for 50 dollars?

These things are awful. They have about a dozen of these in my local Goodwill for the same price. They are returns from Walmart (I think). People bought them expecting it to act like an iPad, but quickly found out that wasn't the case. I bought one (tablet only) for $25 just to try it out. I definitely was not expecting an ipad...just a web browsing device. But is was just too damn slow for even that use. Sorry to burst everyone's bubble.

I bought one of these guys news from Sears around last fall for about $79.99 new with an employee discount. I used it quite a bit until I got an android phone with a 4.3" screen which is just much easier to keep around all the time. I still use my cruz for reading books on the plane and its got excellent battery life. It is a bit jerky with touch movements due to the earlier android version it runs and is a teensy bit slow on response. Buy it for what it is though, a decent email/picture/youtube/browser/book style tablet.

Too true. That was the first place I looked as well. I do believe they are working on getting it on the front page as well.

Not bad, especially since it has all the call functionality of an AT&T smartphone.

So you can't access the Google Play store (Android Market) with this. You gotta use their Cruz Market which is quite a bit more limited in their offerings.

The manufacturer's web site above reports even better details that this product has 2GB of built-in storage but Woot's description states 1GB of built-in storage.

Velocity Micro still has these listed on their site for $199.

If you want a cheap tablet for connecting to the internet or for email it is probably okay.

This tablet has plenty of performance if you install a stripped down ROM on it. I'm planning on using it for video chat (G+) while traveling. It's a great deal for $55.

So does anyone know what the deal with Skype is? I am under the impression there is no Skype app for this tablet. Most sites do not even mention it having a camera. The velocity page says it does, but doesnt list any pre installed apps that even utilize the camera. I am confused. I need a skype device and this is cheap as hell

Don't forget, this deal also comes with 2 SD cards. That's worth $50 at least, right?? And it has a carrying case!

I'm sorry, I'm a tablet junkie. I need something with simple web access sometimes, and this will do the trick. Last year bought one for a friend for $80. This one will either goto Dad or stay at work for "meetings".

I think this is a good entry level tester product for folks who are unsure what the big whoop is about tablet computing. It won't turn anyone off tablets, just give them ideas for what they want when they spend more money.

So I just recently bought a similar tablet for mounting on my refrigerator. It was also a slow and crappy POS with no market, etc. I got a custom rom for it and it's a million times better, proper apps, better speed, and i like it a lot for the price point. I did some looking and didn't find a whole rom for this tablet but here's a link for manually making a lot of the same modifications a rom would do.
