I have an HP pavilion desktop(RAM 1.00GB, Processor: 1.2Ghz without over clocking) from about 12 years ago and even that is faster than this 21st century tablet. what a joke.

$50 is a rip off, i would buy one for $10 with shipping.

You can't compare computers to the current tablets out there. It's really apples and oranges.

I bought one of these a year ago as a comicbook reader. Rooting it wasn't hard at all and there's some custom roms for it over on slatedroid, but it BARELY works even as a comicbook reader. It doesn't charge over usb, and the AC adapter isn't a common size, so if you're in the habit of losing cords, you'll shell out half the price of the tablet for a replacement one. It *might* play some youtube videos on a good day, but most of the time it'll just be a reminder that you shouldn't be allowed to impulse buy. I'd avoid this and save your dough for a real tablet. You can find Icona and Thrive tablets for about 200$ online these days (and they blow iPoops out of the water). If you've got kids and you're just looking to blow 50$ on a tablet for them so they're the coolest kid in 3rd grade, that might be an acceptable use. Also bookends, door stops, paperweights, or to prop open a window on a sunny day.

I agree. I bought one of these a while back for my mom who is NOT tech savy at all. She needed a portable way to check her e-mail and wanted to see what the whole e-book thing was about. this fit the bill. It is simple and basic, and that is exactly what she needed. She travels alot and the browser is good enough, simple games to kill time run fine, and she can read or check e-mail when ever she wants.

Well, they sold 733 of the doggish net/lap tops yesterday if the numbers are to be believed.

These are just as good for foisting upon unsuspecting buyers as the weak offering yesterday.

So I'm going to say they are good for showing your support to Woot Services LLC. Buy 3!

Buyer be wary, Be very very wary.  I bought this cute little tablet a few weeks here on woot, and truly felt that i knew what I was getting into. I read all the comments and reviews and decided What's the Features?.  For $50 I didn't anticipate a lot. I really only expected a device that would connect to the internet and allow me to steadily surf some small web waves.   I only desired that this tablet let me do a little light googling and a wee bit of streaming video. I didn't care that it wasn't going to be fast or sleek. I would be 100% satisfied if the web browser could make a stable connection.  It found and connected to my wifi without a hitch and I thought i was about to catch a baby wave. Haha.   The browser crashed within seconds. And it has crashed consistently, predictably and reliably each of the following 200 times I've tried over the past two weeks.  Wah wah wah. Call the wahmbulance. I've read all the advice that folks have given regarding simple geeky work-arounds and rooting this and that and downloading other browsers like sky fire because the default browser is worthless etc. (Im not clear though on how one manages to perform any of these tweaks with a crashing browser.) In fairness, I will admit that I'm an apple person and accustomed to no muss no fuss connectivity and i definitely do not speak android, and I haven't called velocity's tech support yet, and I will do that before I send it back, but I honestly do not have high hopes (especially after i saw the laughable instructions that came with tablet!) even though my expectations are so basic - e.g. maintain a wifi connection for long enough to submit a request for assistance from the velocity website or get into the velocity Cruz market and find some app that might magically make this thing work.  LoF'ingL.  Clearly some people have had satisfactory experiences with this tablet straight out of it's box - with zero fooling around, and some people, willing and able to geek-around with it for awhile, are happy enough.  For $50 i don't expect iPad-like performance, or anything close to that level of quality, but I really do think fifty bucks should get me a teensy bit of webby satisfaction without needing to educate myself in the vagaries of rooting an android device and /or other tricks and twists.  Perhaps you will be one of the lucky few, and i honestly hope you are, but if you are not feeling lucky or ready to nerd-up, do not blow $50.  WootBeWaryBeVeryWary

The difference is that yesterday's offering is perfectly sufficient for most basic use. Since a lot of laptop owners only need that basic functionality, $300 was a pretty good deal for a lot of people.

$50 for a tablet that's slow enough to cause headaches for most users is $50 too much. Most people don't care about specs but that it "just works", and this tablet probably won't. It's not that you don't get what you pay for here, it's that you do.

Why does woot's editing bot change the commonly used acronym for "what-the-fxxx" to "what's the features?" ... Is it a punishment for not using the preview function when writing a comment?

My dad wants an ereader for his birthday (but not e-ink). Are there any products on par with this price-wise that perform any better?

He seems perfectly content with his Macbook and smartphone for mobile computing.
I just don't see how this isn't worth it if you don't give a carp about angry birds and don't have time to watch videos anyway.

Got this tablet before xmas last year. It's great for watching movies while on treadmill/ellipse/stationary bike. Not great for web but not bad at this price. Plays solitaire OK. Good for old folks like me that want a bigger screen than a phone provides.

Use it as movie player for my 3 yr old, works well for that. Might be ok as a book reader, it can get the Amazon e-reader app. Can't play ANY games, very slow to even type anything.

Hmmm. There once was an iIPad user who wanted to give a truly unbiased opinion of android. He got an Archos 101, and said "this is slow as molasses, but half the price of an iPad!". He then got a Pocket Edge, since it was cheap and interesting with its additional eInk screen, and said "hmmm... It's interesting....", and shoved it in the same drawer as the 101. He then got a discounted touchpad, put android on it, and said "this is usable!!". With ICS, he said "This could potentially compete with iOS!!". And with that, he stopped buying random android tablets....

chadwsmith wrote:I have a T301 - which is a step up from this, (got it on Woot, go figure). I will say if you go into it with your eyes open, then it can be a fun device.

It is not an iPad, it's not a Xoom, it's not even a Kindle Fire. Do not expect a $50 tablet to give you everything a $600 one would.

No, you won't watch Netflix on it, or Hulu, or Amazon Prime Videos. You might get YouTube.

That said, it is a fun toy. It is a good mp3 player, and not-HD-videos that you have copies of already, or can download off the net, (as in, not streaming).

It is a decent eReader, especially for comics. And it's good for checking email, serving as an alarm clock, playing small games (Angry Birds will not render properly for me, so I mean LIGHT games), doing light web surfing, (Don't expect Flash to work - at least not out of the box). And, as has been mentioned, a picture frame. Oh - or maybe a tablet for the kids... no, not the teens, they will be mad - I mean, KIDS, like 6-12ish.

If that's worth $50 for you, then go for it.

What he said. We got a 301 for our 3 year old. He uses it for some games and read along stories we downloaded from the Amazon Market, as well as to watch movies that we store on his SD card. I use it as an eReader after he's gone to bed.

It is crazy slow. However, when it hit the concrete driveway and the corner of the screen cracked, we just patched her up with duct tape and moved on. Not the same reaction when you drop hundreds of dollars of tablet...

Yeah lets give a touch screen tablet to PB &J encrusted 5 yr old fingers.

The performance of this is so poor it will frustrate even a 5 yr old. And not last too long.

I bought two for my kids last December. They already won't re-charge so they are of no use to us anymore. They don't play movies or run angry birds. You don't know which apps won't work on the OS until after you've purchased them. You would be better off to put your money towards a Kindle Fire.

Can someone with this tablet and the Google Play store installed on it see if you can run the alarm.com app on it? If so, this would be a cheap touchscreen panel for arming/disarming the alarm panel from my side door.

Oh poo! I spent $60 on this at Woot last month. Oh well, that was still a good deal.

You get what you pay for so don't whine about performance. It's definitely worth it if you just need an extra tablet around the house.

It's a $50 tablet running Froyo. If it's too slow, you turn off the goofy garbage that runs constantly and suddenly (GASP!) it runs faster.

Patterns on the go for knitters, crocheters and other needleworkers

Recipes in the kitchen

ebooks at your local Y or other workout location

1st tablet for kids to learn on, which is happening earlier and younger

That was just sitting here thinking for a minute. In for 3 except wait, I need to pay bills - but I will save for next time a $50 tablet is offered.

Right on.If you truly want your kid to learn/have fun use a capable device. I started my 4 and 5 year olds out on my wife's and my rooted EVO's. Running Gingerbread, these devices have good hardware and produce a good user experience. They could video/pictures/video chat/games/email/watch movies...and the hardware was good enough and did not freeze up, wasn't slow or anything. For my son's 7th birthday I got him an Acer iconia 10.1" A500 that Office depot clearanced to me for $225-he gets that in 1 week. If you truly want your kid to learn, don't give them a device that will frustrate them to use. If you intend on using this Velocity micro for anything more than an alarm clock/media player you will be disappointed (I don't even know how well it does video files with that processor and a limited amount of codecs). As an ereader it might be usable, but that resolution is not very high and could cause eye fatigue. This is a fair price for this device as long as you realize all its limitations- and DON'T give it to a kid.

Ah, memories, this was my very firt woot back in November and now here I am 45 items later.

So okay this is a reader and thats what its good for. It entertains me on flights and car trips. I can read a book, listen to pandora or take photos to show people. Thats about it. You have access to the Amazon kindle market for tons of free books too.
I think for $50 it's worth having it, as a reader and pandora listening device (has a built in speaker). Know what you're buying and you wont be disappointed.

Total piece of junk! (I got one back in November.) Unreliable, sluggish. It does a decent job (although not outstanding) as an MP3 player or an eBook reader, and for that it might be worth $50. But if you're looking for a "real" general-purpose tablet, you'll need to spend some "real" money.
