It's a lousy tablet. It's a spectacular reader.

I rooted it, overclocked/throttled the CPU (166-800MHz), to improve performance and extend battery life, depending on what's being run, upgraded the internal microSD card to 8G, and added apptoSD to allow more apps to be loaded. As a browser or reader, it's fine, but as a game machine 'forgettaboutit, aint happenin'. I'm going to pass on this one, you can't upgrade to ICS as this only has 256M of RAM, ICS requires 512M. Still, for $55 delivered, not a bad deal.

My wife and I have a kindle fire and two Ipads, and I am still considering buying this for fifty bucks, particularly if battery life is good. Heck, the battery probably cost $50.

It is like a large Ipod Touch, but with an SDHC capability and more apps. Hmmm, people are still selling Internet Radio devices that cost more than this. Still thinking.

The sdhc cards that come with it are probably class 4 or worse. Use a class 10 sdhc to speed the tablet up if it is too slow.

Here is a good demo video of this unit excepting the woot unit has a 30% faster processor. Not bad, my opinion.

The only think I like about the new site in the quick view links at the top. Everything else sucks. I can’t make heads or tails of what I’m supposed to look at. It’s like bad Freeware/Torrent Spam site

This site is extremely slow and you can’t find the forums unless you click through multiple pages taking minutes for each page to load.

In the words of Roger Rabbit.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeesssssssss bring back the old Woot

Or I may just have to stop telling everyone I know/meet, how cool Woot is….Or should I say was!

Some say I'm lucky, Others say it's skill. All I know is my 1st grade teacher would be proud!

When I read in the item description "Imagine a tablet that would automatically redesign your favorite websites to suit your tastes." it reminded me of the old Dialectizer website. It doesn't handle the whole Woot site (Dialectizer has been around for years, not updated for some of the new HTML tricks). It handles cut and paste of text; for example, the first part of the item description, redneck-ized:

"This hyar Velocity is NOT ev'rythin' yo' c'd evah haf imagined it t'be. An' trest us, thet’s a fine thin'! Fry mah hide!

Imagine a tablet thet'd autymatically redesign yer favo'ite websites t'sueyt yer tastes.

Imagine a tablet thet knowed yer schedule befo'e yo' knowed yer schedule.

Imagine a tablet thet c'd smile an' laugh."

Now, Jive:

"Dis Velocity be NOT everydin' ya' could eva' have imagined it t'be. And trust us, dat’s some baaaad doodad! Right on!

Imagine some tablet dat would automatically redesign yo' favo'ite websites t'suit yo' tastes.

Imagine some tablet dat knowed yo' schedule befo'e ya' knowed yo' schedule.

Imagine some tablet dat could smile and laugh. Lop some boogie."

It can't access the Market/Play Store. Cruz has their own Market app that you have to use.

Having two T301 Velocity Cruz tablets and having rooted both of them and installed Turbo Dalvik, they are ok for YouTube, Pandora, and online radio. Web access with Dolphin is ok, but a bit slow. Capacitative, yes, but laggy touch recognition.

Google apps suck the life out of it and do not, repeat do not add rss feed readers or email checkers running in the background.

Amazon app store is your friend.

Then run Advanced Task Killer, kill the app store,
and only run what you are using.

Great disposable tool & toy.

There is no GPS unit in this device, that is part of the reason why its so cheap and why there is no Google Market on the device. (Google requires some min specs for the market, I believe GPS is one of them.)

i see a lot of comments saying this is pretty barebones and not too powerfull.
i work at a bar and would like something like this to run spotify or other music services on. do you think this would be able to run something like that or would it not be good? i see there is a $70-$80 tablet on here from time to time i never pulled the trigger on but this is going to get abused at the bar so im looking to spend as little as possible.

We love feedback of all kinds (constructive is best) - be sure to add it by using the beta feedback button.

Yes, I use it as a E-reader
Yes, it is a little slow browsing
Yes, you can get a third party/android app that can read/edit MS docs, and spreadsheets.
well worth the money.

I don't like the new layout or the interface for viewing images.

It's more modern looking, but it's also very cramped. I suppose the white background is an attempt to make it feel less cluttered.

This won't stop me from wooting, but it stinks that it is bloated now.

I want a cheap and easy web browser while I watch TV. I read the first few pages here, and buy one. Everybody said good e-reader and low level browser, perfect.

The next four pages are filled with accounts of this thing being useless as a browser.

What's up? Browser, or no browser?

From reading all of the comments here and a number of them elsewhere it looks like the installed browser sucks and crashes frequently. If you want to browse the web with it you'll need to install an alternative (possibly after rooting the device).

My husband actually bought this one for me from another website (it wasn't available on woot!). You can update the OS directly from the manufacturer's website, but we've been unable to root it thus far, if that's something you're considering doing. Other than that: the browser crashes constantly, it's not a true Android OS, you can't access Google Play Store to download anything, and good luck with the Amazon App Store, haven't had much luck with it. It's also not powerful enough to run Netflix, which is another down side for me. IMO, this device is best for use as an e-reader. I use a program on it called FBReader, which allows you to use pretty much any type of ebook file, and it works very well with PDFs. If you're looking for more, try a different device, maybe the Sumsung Galaxy I've seen floating around on woot! lately...

OK lots of bad talk. I run a cluster of four quad core machines. I can brag with the best of them.
If all I get is a portable PDF reader with extras I got a fair price. In fact if I can take reading material into the head I am ahead.
I can also skip over the entire five years of bragging that my tablet is almost as good as the laptop I don't carry around because if I carried the laptop I wouldn't be able to brag.
The difference between niche and novelty is a niche is a mature ex-novelty. A tablet is a low end laptop with docking keyboard sold separately.
When your ISP makes your city a WiFi hotspot then you will be untethered from your home.
