Here it was last time

26X optical zoom is fantastic. Your pictures wont turn insanely grainy while zooming.

The zoom is what interests me in this camera. I have had other 20x+ cameras, but the camera can be very shaky at that much zoom. Anybody know if this camera is stable with that much zoom without using a tripod?

I have always had some pretty good luck with Kodak, they are a good name to stand behind.

No EVF makes this a pain to use.
I've had/have several Kodaks similar to this and they can produce beautiful photos, and they have a ton of features, but with the telephoto you'll always wish you had EVF. MP isn't everything, I say check the Z980 or Z990.

my friends kid has one very similar (if not the same) and he takes fantastic zoom photos with it. great pics of the moon (from a tripod at that level) where you can clearly see craters and whatnot.

In for one, I have a Kodak Z981 with a 26X zoom that I am very happy with, this will be a good back up camera.

I currently have a Kodak Z990, and before that had a P712. Neither this specific model, but here are my quick thoughts in general on Kodak's cameras…

Pros:
- Fantastic lenses. Seriously, they take great pics.
- Amazing optical zoom. I often bring a tripod with me. (The Z990 has a 30x zoom, one the biggest reasons I chose it.)
- The zoom has a bit of a auto-stabilizer once you semi-press the shutter.
- A pretty intuitive interface (although they took a step back from the P712 to the Z990, IMO).
- Panoramas. Auto-stitching is nice.
- Very good low-light exposures with the Z990 (obviously I have no idea about this model).

Cons:
- Shutter lag. Updating to the latest firmware helped me IMMENSELY, but it is still frustrating too often.
- Flash tends to chew battery life more than it should (but I am generally pretty anti-flash, so take that FWIW.)
- Some of those interface steps back they took still bug me. (Although that may be more because I was used to how good it was with the P712.)

Neutral:
- Kodak software. Tried it a few months many, many years ago. Now I use Lightroom and iPhoto exclusively.
- The HDR on the P712 was very nice, but on the Z990 became almost useless for me.

All in all, I honestly love Kodak's cameras, and bummed they are now defunct. I consider the two that I own(ed) to straddle the consumer and the professional space… pro-sumer, if you will. If you want much better quality pics than almost all other Point 'n' Shoots, but don't feel like lugging around heavy/bulky DSLRs, then I suggest you seriously consider a Kodak.

Got my mom the 14MP version of this camera a few years ago from Sellout. She likes it. Really shaky at full zoom, but with a tripod, MAN these take nice pictures.

Purchased this camera last time it was on woot and have no complaints! I even got my mom to use it, which is a miracle.

As far as I know, it takes great pictures of: cats, babies, and trees. I don't get out much.

Forgot to add… my z990 takes movies at 1080p @ 30fps, and they are THE best movies I've ever seen from a consumer camera. Again, not sure how good they are with this camera, but it speaks volumes for the quality of Kodak's lenses.

I also have a Z990, and I would suggest looking at buying one if you are considering a Kodak "bridge" model.

The Z990 has 30x zoom and a backside-illuminated CMOS sensor instead of the CCD in this Woot model. It can shoot RAW, does full manual and has an f/2.8 lens. Also, as haydesigner mentioned, the Z990 can shoot 1080p.

I picked up the Z990 for under 200 bucks, and I think it can still be found at that price if you look around. I'm happy that I purchased what will probably be the last top-of-the-line Kodak camera.

office depot has the z990 for 179$ it has a evf which is a huge plus, 30x zoom and a CMOS sensor. the cmos sensor alone makes it worth the 30$ difference.. takes awesome low light shots. i also have the 5010 previous version of this and it also has a ccd sensor and imo low light with ccd is not very good. this also being a 16mp using a ccd sensor is nuts. i would not guess you would be able to cleanly use higher than maybe iso 600 possibly 800 at best...the z990 is only 12mp but is a MUCH better overall camera. i actually bought 3 z990's got each for 129$ when staples had them clearanced for 159 in the store and i used 30$ coupons...staples will match office depot online AND you can use a 25 or 30$ coupon....

I bought this the last time it was up. Definitely worth the money!! Tons of features and settings for every style/shot you're trying to capture. Note that it does take 4 AA batteries...but get some cheap recharchable ones and you're good to go.

I do wish it had a view finder instead of always having to use the huge LCD screen...but other than that, there are no complaints.

Trying to freehand shots with 26 zoom is insanely difficult. The more you zoom the more sensitive the shot is to movement. I think you'll find you'll take pictures just fine with your 20x zoom with a little help with your friends.

Even a decent monopod like this will help you stabalize your camera with a little practice. You will be getting crystal clear zoom photos with ease if you use an Entry level tripod such as this one!

I'd love to see some shots from the users who bought this last woot.

I hate this new web format. It is so wide that even with my 22 in widescreen monitor, I have to continuously scroll right and left to find info. It just isn't user friendly. Why fix what ain't broke?I hope Woot reads these comments. Perhaps my days with Woot are over. It has gone downhill ever since it was sold to Amazon.

Is it just me, or do others agree???

I have read the comments from the previous sale but I'm not sure I'm ready to take the plunge. I currently have a Canon Powershot SD1100 IS with 8MP and 3x optical zoom. I've been looking to upgrade to something of a higher quality but am not sure I want to commit to an SLR. Would there be a substantial improvement in picture quality taken by this one versus the camera I already have or should I look at other options?

I'm very impressed with this camera.

Here's a paragliding video I took with it.

All hand-held and some full zoom. I had some trouble tracking the moving gliders at full zoom but that is not the camera's fault. There was no discernable "shake" such as I would normally get with half the zoom on a camera without optical stabilization.

I have the 12MP version of this little guy and I really like it. The camera is easy to use, comes with some great utility software and has actually been fairly robust. It takes photos as good as the Nikon Coolpix I paid $50 more for. Amazon has this for $199 + free shipping (from Woot!), so this looks to be a pretty decent deal.

I got this in cranberry the last time it was offered. Coming from the standard point-n-shoot world, I'm very excited to be able to get pictures of my kids doing sports and have them VISIBLE and RECOGNIZABLE in the pictures instead of the "hey that kid in uniform that's 1/4 inch tall is mine" that I've dealt with. I've not had problems with blurriness or shaking while zoomed in - and I'm not using a tripod. I do need to buy a neck strap for it - obviously it won't fit in my pocket.

Dear Wooters,

I'm right on the fence deciding between this camera (EASYSHARE Z5120) and the EASYSHARE MAX Z990 at amazon for $ 168. Since I have Amazon prime, I don't have to pay for shipping or taxes. The difference will be only $6 more for the EASYSHARE MAX Z990 at Amazon.

Thank you in advance for your comments and help.

I'm still unsure of how I feel about the new layout, but the size is not an issue. You must be using a low resolution or something. I have a slightly smaller monitor with absolutely no issues.

Bought this the last go-around. I got the purple one... It's beautiful. My only real complaint regarding this camera is its ability to pick up on natural light. It's not so hot. I'm always adjusting shutter speed to allow for more exposure, but then everything gets shakey. This, of course, isn't too much of a problem, because I rarely find myself in such a low-light setting. I would recommend this for the casual photographer.

That's good feedback. The best place to make sure you're heard though is via:

• The Beta Feedback button at the top-right of every page -or-
• The feedback forum on Woot or this forum on Deals.Woot

Thanks!

Honestly, I would go for the z990. The z5120 is being discontinued, which means no tech support should you ever need it. That's a huge selling point. If a company cannot back its product, then neither should you. I bought the z5120, but it was really my only option at the time. Had I been given the chance, I would have opted for the z990. It shoots 1080p HD videos, has a CMOS sensor for better quality in low-light settings, a better zoom, higher ISO, wider aperture... it's the better choice in all departments, except maybe size. But with all those uuber sexy specs, who cares!

I bought this the last time it was up on Woot! I love this camera. Takes really good pictures. The screen refresh can be a bit on the slow side at times but it can still snap the next shot with it not showing the last. Takes good action shots.

On a side note it came smart post and I got it with in 5 days.

I have found that a tripod works best if you want to take the picture. I was trying to take pictures of birds the other day and everytime I snapped the picture, it came out blurry, so yes, I now need to buy a tripod. But hey...they're cheap! Otherwise it's a great camera and I love it!

From the 2nd paragraph:

"Kodak will continue to honor all related product warranties, and provide technical support and service for its cameras, pocket video cameras and digital picture frames."
