Sweet. Wish I waited and saw this post, bought last time on woot. I still think this camera will be fine for how I plan to use it.

I can't seem to get all of my thoughts together in a single post today - my apologies - but another problem I have with this camera is the amount of time between photos. I'm sure there's a word for that, but I am not photography-speak savvy. Does anyone know if there are adjustments that can be made to improve this? I tried making the photo size smaller and it didn't seem to help much if any.

It takes forever between photos. The initial shot is fast, but then it sits there thinking before I can shoot again. I'm actually sending this one to my mom, she doesn't take many pics and I think it will be fine for her purposes.

Got this last woot.
Pros: Takes very nice pictures. Has a pretty good Super Macro mode, which is important to me. I like the zoom. I consider AA battery power to be a pro, mainly because a previous camera of mine was, so I have a ton of rechargeables lying around. Better than my Nikon Coolpix P100.

Cons: Nearly unusable in bright sunlight. Shame it doesn't have a viewfinder. Those super macro shots are difficult to get without a moveable display.

Still haven't tested extensively, so that's what I've got so far.

this is a very good deal if you want this style of point and shoot camera. poor kodak actually makes pretty good digital cameras. use the highest power rechargables AA you can find and you will be a happy camper...

Got this camera for my girlfriend.

It's not great for movement but we took it to a baseball game we were about 300 feet away from home plate. When we zoomed into the pictures we could see the eyes and mouth of the catcher.

I woot you

•    USB cable
•    Lens cap with strap
•    Neck strap

Not sure how much those extras would cost separately, so maybe it's a wash.

Amazon just raised the price to $179.95. guess too many wooters buying it ;-)

I have no experience messing with focus, but this is something it seems can be adjusted in the "tools" view by pressing the Disp. button on top.

Has anyone ever had issues with Kodaks and using regular batteries. Our old camera was a Kodak and we could take maybe 10 pics with it. Whether we used rechargable ones, lithium, ect. We have decided to stay away from Kodaks. We now have a Nikon coolpix that everyone in our family uses for their vacations because it takes brilliant pics!

I've gotten hundreds of pictures per set of batteries so far, probably 400 pics and I'm only on my 2nd set.

I got mine from the sale a few weeks back and it arrived quickly; the bag was sent separately a few days later. The bag is nothing special and is not form fitting, so it has a lot of extra room inside for other junk. It also means the camera is not well-protected, either. But the camera itself ROCKS!.

I have used many cameras and this one is the best P&S so far - with great quality photos and much easier to use than a "prosumer" model at a fraction of the cost. I just changed my first set of batteries last night (they lasted for two weeks of 300 photos and wireless transmissions from my Eye-Fi SD card) and fed it some rechargeable Energizers. With the Eye-Fi, I will no longer have to worry whether I have enough SD card storage with me, as long as I can access a wifi signal to the Internet - or my laptop, I will never run out of storage space.

I did have a hard time with the Macro and Super Macro - it takes a little practice (and personal adjustment). It works, but using the LCD instead of a magnified viewfinder makes taking macro shots tricky - you have to move the camera in & out from the subject to get your focus and the LCD isn't hi-resolution [enough] for photographing tiny subjects like jumping spiders.

Other than these few user-adjustment issues, I am confident that this was a very wise investment - and am surprised to see that they were not sold-out the first time.

PS: Kodak support is A-OK, too. I used the online chat and telephone support to get some clarification on using the Macro features.

I have had Kodak before and loved it. I had Canon and Nikon point and shoots and found them lacking. I know it is dumb, but when I think of photo's I'm old school and think of Kodak film, so Kodak feels natural.

What's wrong with you Woot??? you didn't like that the mothership has a better price on an item that NOT the same at the one you're selling but is better value for the people??? what kind of business is this?? I put the Z990 on my cart and Amazon drop it to increase the price. That's low, very low Woot and Amazon.

If it had a threaded lens allowing the addition of external filters... that would've sealed the deal for me.

I'll stick with my Fuji and my circular polarizer.

Well it's not Woot's fault. What the previous poster was trying to say, was that due to the volume of people buying the z990, amazon raised the price. Those buyers may so happen to be Wooters, because of our discussions here and the timing of this woot deal.

Well, mine is the S700 and is 4-5 years old 7MP and 10x optical zoom. I'm sure by now they have something better, but I'm off so I don't have time to research for you. Good luck!

I don't mean to be a naysayer, but I went through this with them before (twice, which is my bad...so sad). Got a top of the line camera from them and all the accys. to have them drop support, firmware updates or anything. I was SOL.
I used to love this company, but it was taken over by sharks that laid everyone off and outsourced whatever they could to make a buck and trade on the name. But support? I am not only doubtful, but I have been burned badly by Kodak. They suck.
Hey it is a cheap functional camera what is the worst that can happen, Woot?

I completely agree & find it sad that Kodak was once the best & is now one of the worst. I bought my last Kodak "easy share" camera 3 years ago & it broke 2 years later. I won't buy another one again.

I love a good WOOT!

I bought this camera during the last Woot-off. Here's my opinion:

  • It has a fantastic zoom.
  • The panoramic photos are nifty.
  • The battery life is good.
  • It takes phenomenal videos, but you cannot zoom while it is recording video.
  • You are limited to only taking 29 minutes of video at a time (per video clip, you can have as many separate clips as your card will hold. Something about licensing of a video camera vs. a still camera)
  • Faster SD cards do not make it any faster between shots. I purchased a 32 gigabyte class 10 card with the hope that would make it able to take rapid-fire pictures, but that didn't make a difference.

With all that said, I am not dissatisfied with my purchase whatsoever. It's not a DSLR camera, but it is definitely a nice piece of equipment that is reasonably priced.

You'll want to purchase a camera strap, though, as one is not included in this purchase.

Customer service is in India. I have a similar model and needed to call 3x before I got anyone who knew anything. I dislike the Kodak easyshare software and download directly from the card or camera. While the zoom is fantastic, I would buy another brand due to the difficulty downloading directly from the camera. I did manage to do so with a patch, but seriously, a patch? Running good old Windows XP and their cameras are not set up for XP.

This is a joke, right??? A camera the size of a bulky DSLR, but with the specs of an average point-n-shoot? That seems like a lose-lose. Unless I am misreading it contains a sensor with a 1/2.3-type CCD, which is about the size of a pinky nail and found in most low-end cameras. Sorry (Amazon) Woot - this is a dog!

I was tempted until I stumbled one this layman's terms' comparsion between the Z990 and this one on Woot:

I like to get a new camera as I gipped myself in buying a camera with a proprietary lithium but I'll wait around for a different one... maybe...
