I've had both styles. I think this type is most comfortable, the only disadvantage being that it doesn't pack down as small as the ones w/o spreader bars. The open mesh is actually cooler, and quite comfortable too.

Would this work on an outdoor patio....a few floors up? Or is that a bad idea?

I'm a pretty clumsy oaf myself but I stand in awe of you people who are terrified of your hammock.

Isn't the name wrong on the front page? It's supposed to be Pawleys Island.

Edit: Just looked back and saw there have been a number of comments about this. Too funny!

Does the 13 foot length include the chain at the end? I have a stand the ends of which are about 15 1/2 feet apart.

I love this *style* of hammock, but in S. California, cotton hammocks last 1-2 years max. I couldn't find out if it was cotton, but Pawley Island usally is. I went through three of these before I found one made with polypropylene that is now in its six year with no deterioration! Go Plastic!

By the way, I believe that Pawley Island hammocks are ALL made in China now

My entire family only buys hammocks from Pawleys Island. Granted, we usually go visit and get them from the store. I'm not a huge fan of the colors...but even when we had a cotton hammock and left it outside all spring, summer and fall...It lasted 20 years. No joke. And if it falls apart, you can keep the wood and such and take it to the store and they'll make you a new one from the same parts. In front of you.

These are DAMN good hammocks. If these are the real ones.

My home is on a golf course not a lake and unfortunately my two trees that are the perfect distance apart for a hammock are also perfectly placed to get hit in the head by a golf ball while relaxing in one of these.

They aren't. I visited the store last year and HELPED make my hammock that I brought home with me. I can actually see my one mess up in the ropes.

Also, they make non cotton ones now. We have one.

Then why not put up some 50% screen above you anchored by the two trees. Not only will you get just the right amount of sun but when the golf balls land in the net above you instead on whacking you on the head you can sell them to the golf club. (club as in high paying dues place not club as in the golf club that hits the ball.)

Well, "the Original Pawleys Island" hammocks may be made in the USA, but these are "Pawley Island," a significant difference in trademark/copyright-land. I'm pretty sure that you'll find a "made in China" slip inside. I'm not saying that's a bad thing! Handmade hammocks for rich Americans are just as much a part of our economy as Gulfstreams and BMWs.

My "made in China" version (in polypropylene) is the best hammock I've ever owned.

FYI... The island itself here in SC is Pawleys Island. Guess Pawley Island hammocks is the brand name.
And, no I didn't get one.

Well, I guess then either someone needs to correct the spelling error throughout the description or acknowledge the spelling error, since people still aren't believing you that they are "Pawley's" rather than "Pawley". It's not your fault, but someone really should straighten this out.

The fine print says that it holds two people. 350 pounds could be a little less than what two taller folks would need.

I'm not sure why people are so fixated on stands or trees just x feet apart? It's easy enough to use a tree for one end and a 4x4 dug into the ground at the distance you wish (or even a pair of 4x4's). Run a lag screw with an eyebolt in it thru at your preferred height and you are done(except the relaxing).

Makes a great wedding gift.

Symbolic in how marriage can be your nirvana, or, if not balanced, flip you around and leave you dumped and hurt. You enter this hammock like a marriage: with care amd respect, gently. Then, it supports you and let's you relax and enjoy yourself, escapimg from the world.

Yup, a great wedding gift.

all the links to weather smart hammocks that I could find list capacity as 450 lbs. hmmm
I've got the stand but a solid canvas hammock which is not that comfortable. I'd like to try a rope one but maybe I'll spend the bucks and get a real one.

Handmade in the Yucatan by fat native women, so shipping is high.

Ask them to leave the fat woman out of the box, the shipping will be less.

Don't have any details on what the difference is with the sub-brand, though.

And yes, it's "Pawleys Island" with no apostrophe. Looks like the text on the product page has been corrected, but this thread title and the first post have not.

OH sounds like the Henkels knives... how they have their legit twin star knives and then the more affordable (but not *quite* as legit) ones with only one guy on them!

So, is the construction still the same? Is the quality the same as I was expecting, like a "de-branded" item?

I don't understand the email. They say its built by the makers of the Pawley's Island hammocks in the US, but is made in India. Where do these makers reside -- the US or India?

I have a relative at Pauley's and he told me that this was a specils desl of last years close out stock to Woot as their new hammocks indeed have a different name. That is how they keep track of their inventory run

Got mine today. NOT impressed. Even at the discount, it came with a rope repair (a quite crappy one) and a huge gap in the rope meshing. I had a Pawley's Island Hammock before. This ain't it. It ain't bad (materials are good) but the assembly is half-arsed. I think these are seconds/rejects. :-/

I WISH I had seen your e-mail in time to cancel, (under 2 days to respond). I unpacked it today to find a USED AND FADED hammock, with 4 FRAYED ropes and MISSING the hardware. RMA requested.

I just reread the Woot wright up stating "unfadable – the color is solution-dyed, which means the color is added as the fiber is being created rather than “painted” or dyed later", if what I got is "unfadable" I was sent the wrong color. My wife let me order this because she likes the blue green looking one. What I have here is a washed out looking drab olive green. I hope RMA's will be issued even though product was sent from "The Hammock Source"

ps- The description also states "new", what I received "MIGHT" be called reconditioned, But just looks used. Like you would buy at a yard sale.

Open it up! Let's see if ANYONE gets a "NEW" hammock. I think Woot! got suckered on this one.

I asked for a replacement and they said, "Sorry, we don't have any." But they did provide a shipping label to return it. Of course, I still don't have a hammock...

I bought something else from Moofi (pretty expensive rifle scope) and the rings were on crooked. Easy enough to fix but I think companies are starting to realize they can just dump inferior products at Woot! and get way with it.

Caveat Emptor is now my first thought when viewing any woots. Too bad... I miss the old woot.

I received my hammock. It didn't look like there was any rope repairs, but the inside of the box gave me the idea that it was cotton and not 'weather smart'. This, combined with the fact that the ends of the rope are glued to stop fraying and not fused, like is customary on poly rope, leads me to believe that it is, in fact, not weather smart.
