Hi, I got two of the first players that came out off of E-bay (one for me and the other for my oldest niece when she comes by). I haven't had no big problems at all. The only problem that I do have is that my DSL messes up and I can't get it to connect on it but that is not the players fault. I would recommend anybody to get one because they adds new channels all of the time. I just wish they add more slots so I can add more to my player. It also good for the kids if anybody has any of them (plus it saves money on renting movies all of the time).

So Tempting ... we bought one the last time around, and just got around to dumping comcast tv this week. Cut my bill down to over 50%. Netflix will let you use more than device (up to 5 or 6 I believe), so we're eventually going to get two more for the other tv's. This is the best thing I've ever bought from Woot.

I may be an Olde Phart, but it looks to me as if the Roku from Woot plus a 1-year Square Trade warranty is the better deal, eh?

It's been mentioned before, but people still miss the fact that this is a first generation model.

I advise you to go to http://www.roku.com/roku-products#3 to see the second-generation models. The price isn't that much more and the shipping is free.

This is true but if you read the Roku Forums the first gen is currently more stable. Roku still supports and pushes upgrades to the first gen but the are far fewer than the newer model.

One tip that I can't stress enough is hook this thing up using the ethernet (wired) port. This solves about 95% of the problems you'll read on the forum. I learned this first hand.

Great Device! We've had it for 11 months now and finally cut the cable last month. Using this and an OTA antenna we are saving $80/mo.

Note: If you expect surround sound from the the Roku XD 1080P, you'll be disappointed. While it has HD video capability, this model does not have a decoder to decode the 5.1 channel sound from netflix. To do this, you'll need the Roku 2, or another, more powerful streaming device. Take care,
joe

An even better deal including 6 months of Hulu+ for $80.

I have a Roku service question.

When I go to Amazon.com, I have a Prime account, so I can stream a whole bunch of content for no additional charge. Random example: the movie "Mean Girls" streams for free.

When I go to my TiVo, they offer "Amazon Instant Video", but it does not include the free Prime content. "Mean Girls" rents for $2.99 or $3.99 for the HD version, even though the TiVo is linked to my Amazon Prime account.

The Roku web site talks Amazon Instant Video, but they say nada about the free Prime content. So, can I use Roku to view free Amazon Prime content or not?

Can someone who owns one and has Amazon Prime actually confirm this, instead of just reading what I am reading? :-)

Thanks!

If I get the free Prime content for sure, I will take a flyer on this. I've had TiVo since series 1, but they are slipping.

After using my original Roku for almost 3yrs now, for a great portion of time each day (finished my undergrad online), I can definitely say that it's a solid product and i've wanted to get another box for years to put upstairs but have heard far too many reliability issues to actually bite the bullet. BUUUUT, I've finally decided that enough is enough and I am tired of moving the roku from downstairs to upstairs and went and ahead and ordered this piece. Hopefully using the ethernet port Ill avoid a lot of the issues people were complaining about.

And only if your TV provider offers it for the roku, which Direct TV doesn't

After talking with an Amazon rep re: why sound didn't work on HD Prime instant videos through Roku, it turns out surround sound doesn't work with my Roku XS; have to change it to stereo while watching Amazon HD vids.

Also, I had connectivity issues until hardwiring it rather than using wifi...it just didn't work right. Roku worked with me, they were very helpful actually. Now it's great!

I highly recommend this little box. We also have an original one. I received a free ac adapter from Roku when the first one crapped out. Another reason why it might be wise to unplug your Roku when not in use, as you can never really turn it off.

Yes. Great video quality too. Better than using the 3000 setting when watching on the computer.

Aaaggh! .. Be Warned! ... I bought the Roku for one channel and one channel only : HBO Go (I have all the other streaming services I want built into my smart tv and I was tired of moving my PC across the room to hook it into the TV) .. I even asked here if HBO Go is supported on Roku (and checked the Roku site) .. an yes - HBO Go is supported they all said ... but what you only find out when you try to connect to HBO Go is that Comcast XFinity (one of the biggest suppliers of the cable channel in the country, and yes, my provider, do NOT support streaming HBO Go to Roku devices!
I'm sure Roku it's a great product for someone without a smart TV loaded with streaming services, or who has an HBO Cable provider this IS supported, but in my case the Roku is now just a not-all-that-attractive, dust-gathering ornament on my TV stand.

( But props to Woot for really fast delivery )

I got my Roku today. It boots up just fine but I don't think the remote works. It goes to the welcome screen, where it says press ok to continue, but it doesn't register button presses on the remote. What's the Features?. Advice? Tried two different sets of batteries.

I have to say, my night with Roku went from excitement, to disappointment, to frustration, to anger.

Prologue: I am a techie/software developer, work in IT, am very well versed in networking.

I've had the original Roku for a while now, and it has worked flawlessly with my D-LINK DIR-825A ever since I got it.

My DIR-825 is configured as follows:
DHCP Enabled
Auto Scan Channel
WPA/WPA2 w/TKIP+AES
Auto 20/40MHz Channel Width
Configured with OpenDNS DNS Servers

Tonight I received my two Roku 2050X from Woot. I unboxed them, set them up to work with my wireless, and had the same experience with both:

Upon first connect, the Roku downloaded a software update and rebooted. After rebooting, it was no longer able to connect to my wireless network.

A quick google search shows that many others have had this problem (especially with d-link access points), and there are a bunch of difference solutions that have worked for various people. I'm going to spare you guys the details of all the things I did to try and get it working and jump directly to what made it work for me:

Roku:
I changed the Display type to 720p (won't work on 1080p)
I set the clock display to NONE.

Router:
I manually set the channel to 6.

One of these items (or perhaps a combo) fixed my wifi connectivity issues. The fact is that there is some sort of bug in these devices and I believe it's some sort of memory overflow issue. (During my troubleshooting, at one point I got a weird "out of memory" error and had to factory reset it.)

I hope this post saves you guys many hours of frustration. I hope to explore some other time and figure out if it's a combo of these items or a specific one that resolved the issue.

Woot really pushed the Roku to me... Fast delivery with an easy wifi setup, to my D-Link router. My Roku even picked up several of the neighbors' SSIDs on its setup screen.

I expected to use an ethernet cable but after having the wireless work so well, I left the Cat5 with all its relatives, out in the large plastic storage container.

Not gloating guys; only giving my personal experience.

90 day warranty, craps out in 130 days. Not buying anymore electronics from Woot. Thanks for stealing $60.
