I wonder what the lifetime expectancy of a foam mattress is???

Expanded fully within about 3 days, and mine didn't have "that" chemical odor so many people complain about. That was over a year ago, and I'm lying on it right now. Just have no idea if it's the same brand/manufacturer or not.

We bought a full size for my 11 yr old son last year and we had no issues opening it after the recommended 3 days. It didn't have a chemical smell and it doesn't make him sweat. He loves it, and I have to admit...it is comfy. I'll be buying 2 more for my other 2 boys.

Try the "Prepac" brand platform beds, available on Amazon and others. Great bed. We have a King with six drawers, headboard, bedside units and cabinets for the foot of the bed. Low price and easy to assemble, like IKEA stuff.

I read an article a few months ago that said that memory foam owners complain that it's difficult to have "relations" on it. Just something to consider!

Excellent timing! Was waiting for a woot mattress myself to get a semidisposable bed I can use for the next year.

I only need this for one year, I'm guessing this should be sufficient to last for that time period.

Also, with standard shipping, how long should I expect this to ship to me? Today's the 20th, I probably won't be available to receive it until the 26th. (wouldve preferred this woot deal tomorrow or friday, but such is the nature of the woot!)

4lb density is not that great. It is OK - but after you lay on it awhile and your body heat warms it up, it will go flat. Especially just 2.5" of it.

I think we will pick up a twin for our 4 yr old's big-girl bed- which is an Ikea loft bed w/ slats that can't use a boxspring, so this would work well.

Bought one last time around. Waited a month to open it, and it reformed itself just fine. However, it was much to firm. Had to buy a couple of toppers just to sleep on it.

Manufacturer is Sarah Peyton. Can see it on Overstock.com. (same display photos for product). Costs a bit more on Overstock, but maybe easier to return etc.

Lasted less than 2 years before it had a permanent divot. We rotated numerous times but couldn't get rid of it. I think this is mainly an issue for people that sleep on their side.

Check out reviews on Overstock- not all flattering. Might not be the best thing to by online. Also my bro said, whatever you do open it in the room you are putting it in, not downstairs in your living room. ( heavy and hard to move)LOL

ashah1111 wrote:I had the same question. I am moving into a new condo in 3 months and was wondering does it really have to be opened within 72 hours? Can I just buy one and let it sit for a few months so I don't have to haul a big unfolded mattress around?

Yes you need to open it or you will be even more disappointed with it when you do open it than you otherwise would.

Foam all works by having open cells that hold air like billions of tiny balloons, if you take a balloon filled with air and look at it after several days the balloon will be smaller because the air is able to slowly escape the balloon because it is under constant pressure... that will happen to the foam if you compress it for an extended period of time. It wont be as extreme as the balloon but if you compress and fold a foam mattress long enough you will lose some of the air in the tiny bubbles and you wont be able to put it back.

Personally I wouldn't want another foam mattress, they suck compared to old style spring mattress. They feel great when brand new and for the first few hours you lay on one... but over time they become softer and will develop areas of less support (wear out)... and be warned the cheaper the mattress the lower the quality of foam used and the quicker it will die.

Guys... look at the reviews before buying, they scare the crap out of me:
http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Sarah-Peyton-Soft-Luxury-10-inch-Full-size-Memory-Foam-Mattress/4274299/product.html

"Never Again"
I wish I had seen reviews of this mattress before purchasing. The "memory foam" is actually only about 1" thick, on top of regular foam that is about as soft as sleeping directly on the floor. The mattress never fully regained the proper shape, and it is basically impossible for a regular human being to sleep on this mattress. However, it has come in handy for my two dogs! If you would like to purchase a large, $300 dog bed, this is for you!

90 Day warranty says it ALL. My 30 year old mattress sports a 4" Serta memory foam topper and has for 6 years. You can get the Serta with a 3 year warranty at Overstock for $189.99 any size. Unless you really need a whole new mattress, I'd go for the Serta.

I bought a memory foam mattress on Amazon last year for less than this costs, and I love it. The reviews are glowing. Just do a search there and you'll find it.

I have two from a previous Woot!

You're getting what you pay for here.

While these may be 4 lb. density, it's largely negated by the "air flow ducts" which are holes that go through the memory foam layer (but not into the foam base underneath).

This ends up affecting the stability and durability of the mattress.

We have one mattress with the air ducts and one without and there is no difference as far as how warm/cool you are sleeping on them. Why? The holes don't go anywhere, so there's no air flow, and you're squishing the ducts down when you lay on the mattress.

If the mattress is being used by a couple, you'll soon find that there's a "ridge" that forms in the middle due to the foam breaking down on either side of it.

Finally, the heat retention (ducts or no) is a big problem during summer. But that's not a problem specific to just this brand, so it's something you accept when you go memory foam. Not sure if the newer mattresses that incorporate gel really make a difference or if it's purely marketing BS.

Got two years out of each mattress and have moved on to a more durable high-density memory foam instead.

On a positive note, I had a problem with one of the mattresses not fully expanding when I received it and both Woot! and the distributor were very quick to resolve it at no extra cost to myself.

I think it's a good deal for a guest bedroom when it won't be used constantly. But you shouldn't cheap out on a primary mattress that you'll be spending around a third of your life on.

I got the full size the last time around to appease my husband who was convinced it was the next best thing since sliced bread. We bought it to replace the sack of rocks we had been sleeping on at our vacation home - so it is used infrequently (once a month or so for 2 nights). It was opened immediately upon receipt and we had no issues with it filling out evenly. I was wary of it but it is much more comfortable than I thought it would be. I have been having major back issues lately and sleeping on this bed has been helping (or at least not hurting). But it is important to note that we don't use it on a daily basis. We are very happy with it!

forever fighting the urge to buy something just because it is cheap and cool...wait, it's cheap and cool, let me click that big yellow button!

Had a memory foam mattress for years. Initially I disliked it, but over time I grew to loathe it. It gave me no support whatsoever. The result is that my body began to collapse on itself while I slept. I would make up in the morning barely able to move my arms because my upper body weight would be taken by my collarbone. Enormously painful. This wasn't some cheap no-name brand, this was Temperpedic-brand. I eventually got a new one and gave it to a friend. After having it for the last year, he recently told me that he had started to wake up in a lot of pain, especially on his collarbone.

Memory foam is hard without being stiff. It was such an absolute misery. We switched to a Posturpedic bed with a pillowtop. The result? For the last year now, every single night I crawl into bed, I have the relaxed pleasure of going into a good bed. It's amazing what a difference it can make. I will *never* buy memory foam again.

Funny, I always thought Cal King and Queen were the most popular sizes. But no Cal King here…we are a tall folk, can’t sleep on these short mattresses. But then I think I want to stick to a latex mattress anyway. Very expensive but they last forever, are extremely comfortable with great support, and breath better. Oh yea, and they are much better for that other thing too.

I bought the queen size about 6 months ago! LOVE IT!!! Im buying the full size as a guest bed today! I have a standard box spring and frame and it supports this mattress just fine. This is a great deal for the money. I have been sleeping great for the past few months. Now my guest will sleep well too!
