Only things that this has over the soon to be released Nexus 7 for $200 is the MicroSD slot and that you can buy it right now.

Screen is worse, probs not going to get OS4.1, slower everything, and smaller screen.

But if you want the Android version of an iPod Touch go for it I guess

Amazon Used or Refurb ~$170, not much of a deal, after tax (some location) and shipping cost

I'll pass on this

Used is much different than refurbished. The only refurbished is $189.99 + $5.93 shipping.

That video gives you a good idea of the size in your hands. Not a bad review either.

Refurbished means it was broken.

Nope, actually it's just $200. No contract (it's just a wifi tablet anyway).

edit: should have included a link, sorry.

Isn't this the same price that woot was charging for this when it was brand new and just being released at the end of last summer?

My bad I was thinking of the Galaxy S 3. The 5.0 is more like an iPod touch than a tablet. The 5.0 fits in all pants poctets like a cell phone.

That may have been the smaller version. Samsung makes a 3.6" version for $149 at Amazon. Oddly enough, they also seem to make a 4" and a 4.2" version, in addition to the 5".

3.6 version: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-5-0-Android-Player/dp/B005P1VNDW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341206073&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+galaxy+tab+5+0

Oh, ffs, this is why I hate the RSS feed - it made me click the link to see the outrageous price for a refurb.

$50-$80 I woulda thought about it. I guess if you want a tiny tablet that probably won't get an OS upgrade to what was big last year for twice what the hardware's worth with questionable provenance, this is the device you've been waiting for.

Otherwise, meh.

+1 5" is sadly less than average.

EDIT: 10" tends to be kind of unmanageable and too big for a lot of situations. Somewhere around 7" seems to always get the job done and leave everyone happy.

I have one - bought Sept last year new for $174.99 when first introduced here (believe Woot was first to make available). No complaints. Screen is great for me, battery life seems fine (sorry - can't quantify). My first Android device - still amazed at the versatility and usefulness, and the almost spooky way so much is integrated effortlessly (especially Google-related). Like the FM radio. Camera is OK, movie recording is OK - (see uploaded video here). Pause during video record allowed the cuts without post-edit. I use this as my WiFi Skype phone with included earbud headset (includes mike). Have a cheap no-contract $25 dumb phone for my limited cell needs, and this is my primary mobile data device limited to free WiFi where available (enough for my needs) - often leave the 10" tablet home because this is more convenient. No regrets ten months after purchase...

Refurb does not mean it was broken. Anything that gets returned to a manufacturer is gone over and tested and passed/failed. Anything that fails is fixed. That is what refurb means. Many refurbs are darn near new and need nothing done to them.

Stating the obvious, but going to be a harder sell with the new Nexus 7" just out for $200 (8GB) and the latest ver of Android "Jellybean".

So this is my phone...but without the phone capability. No thank you. 5" is waaaaaay too small to be an effective tablet. 9" diagonal is about my minimum. That's what my Acer Aspire One (Netbook) has and I can't imagine comfortably reading or typing on anything smaller. Especially if typing takes up half the screen.

I didn't see mention of the processor in the specs. 1GHz single-core, I presume?

if this is anything like the samsung galaxy S2 skyrocket that I have for a phone, then pull that trigger! When I say pull that trigger, I mean by it.

Fast, awesome screen, sleek, stylish, and most importantly it's an Android! Im still amazed what these mini computers can do.

I picked up one of these back when woot first had them at release. I paid around $190 after tax & shipping. It runs Android 2.3 and it doesn't look like Samsung has any plans to release an update for it (originally release with 2.2). It was a handy enough device. I used it to watch video, play games & check email. I also used it for video calls on Skype with my nephews. I never really used it to listen to music though. I already have an iphone & ipod classic and I preferred my ipod for music. Keep in mind it is WiFi only. Also, even with a 5" screen, it wasn't really pocket-able. Ok as an ipod touch alternative, but you need to keep in mind the limitations of Android 2.3. I remember getting a lot of errors and forced closures of apps. This is ultimately what led me to sell it. It's also not the fastest device around with a single core.

You presume correct.

If you were thinking of using this as a phone you might want to think again. It does have Google Voice but It seems like you might need some extras for great call quality.

Here is a video demonstration with a 7" tablet. Unfortunately the Call quality is marginal without a headset.

If you wanted to use a headset You could use something like this And hook up your regular headset.

Actually my memory says it was this same 5" just not exactly sure on price may have been 160$. But with the revamp to woot 2.0 I can't seem to find it in the previous sales history. I remember being bummed when it showed up because of having bought the kids some generic 7" just the week before.

The comparisons should be to the iPod Touch 4TH generation, not a tablet. I have the 4.0 version of this and am EXTREMELY happy. I added a 32GB microSD with my songs (no iTunes...a huge plus), photos, and even my insurance documents, etc., so I can save the internal storage for Apps. It is a wonderful device as a MP3 player and for quick check of emails and notifications.

3 things make it head and shoulders better than the Touch. microSD slot, FM radio, and control over my music without iTunes

What is the price of a 32GB iPod? Over 180.00 for a refurb on eBay nor. Over 250.00 new. (I know it is 8GB...I make the comparison to the 32GB because it has expandable memory and my card alone is 32GB)

I also bought this last September here...$170, New. It has been fine, I like the handy size, which is bigger than a phone, yet small enough to carry, unlike most of the 7"-10" ones.
Found some very cool bluetooth headphones to go with it...I already have a cell phone, so this is not needed for that purpose, just wanted to venture into the tablet world as cheaply as possible and see how I liked it.
Nice for checking in with people on Facebook, email, texting...playing games when bored...ebay, free apps, even world webcams (gotta see how Hawaii is each day, and Dream!).

And? After expressing your desire for a barnyard animal, and a definitionally under-aged one at that, are you willing to come out and state your full intentions?

This device is in line with the original Samsung Galaxy devices released in 2010. That is, the original Galaxy phone and Galaxy tablet. They all have similar hardware and run Android 2.x. The big difference is in the screen as the Galaxy 5 Player shown here does NOT have the Super AMOLED screen due to a shortage in the technology back in 2010. You must also remember that the earlier Android OS builds were intended for use in phones only but Samsung jumped the gun by releasing products like these with a phone's operating system attached. You will never see an official update to 3.0.

What you're buying is a device from 2010 with outdated tech and a quirky operating system. Not all Android devices are the same so buyer beware.

This is like an ipod touch. For tablet, I'd rather get Google's Nexus 7.

I bought this one on woot some time ago.
This is not a iPod alternative.

Rather, it's a poorly supported waste of time, which turns to regret after many wasted days spent trying to make system and apps work.

The original Woot user discussion about this Galaxy S WiFi can be found here (35 pages):

http://www.woot.com/Forums/viewpost.aspx?postid=4639001

I'm a satisfied owner. It runs all apps stable and fast. The 5" size allows immediate pocket access, that 7" or bigger can't do, yet large enough to act as an e-reader.
