My reaction as well. Let the gnashing of teeth and the young maidens begin an outpouring of self-rightous indignation over the old guy/lack of hotness begin!

Personally it was an enjoyable kind of a geek-fest moment of anticipation watching, but I think I'd rather have just found out post-regeneration to reduce imagined expectations.

But, all in all as you so well put it:

George Harrison. (Capaldi played George Harrison in a 1985 TV production entitled 'John and Yoko: A Love Story'.)

Seems this gent has not only been in the series before, but also in Torchwood.

Now for all you conspiracy theorists out there, according to IMDb he has a screen credit in the movie World War Z. His character is identified as...

W.H.O. Doctor

I found it all a bit underwhelming. I think I'd rather not even know it was coming, if that's all the same with everyone else. I'm sure the new doctor will do an excellent job. I have no problem with his age. I'm actually kind of glad not to have another young doctor. As for those who want to whine:

Spoilers? Probably.

And as much as I've shunned and avoided all 50th trailers, I did glimpse at about the first 20 seconds of this footage

It gave a glimpse into the graphic/fx manipulations and magic used in a promo. It amazes me how much work goes into a 3 second shot.

It may contain scenes/spoilers/actors you'd rather not have revealed just yet.

Or not.

As I said, I've managed to resist. On the other hand, my youngest (AKA version 2) has seen anything 50th that has come out.

Go figure.

During the down time, my son and I found BBC America is running some Torchwood episodes. Case in point, all 5 Children of Earth episodes were on the other day.

Not having watched Torchwood, we recorded them and are watching on per evening. Anyone else?

and while I'm talking to myself again, as my son and I were watching Children of Earth I kept commenting how familiar one of the main characters appeared in a young, skinny Donald Southerland sort of way.

Once we've finished watching the final installment, my son looks at me and says, "You know, that is the next Doctor, don't you?"

And while I watched "meet the new doctor" it hadn't occured to me until he said something.

Damn those smart know-it-all kids. Good thing I'm taking his butt back to college Sunday.

spoilers and stuff....

Apparently at a recent chinese Who convention, there was a show shown about the 11th Doctor, it kind of looks like the Doctor revisited series.

But shown in there, were was some behind the scenes footage from the 50th special.

anyways, as far as I know there's no better footage right now, so you're stuck with this, should you choose to view it...

Get thee behind me, Satan!

Somehow I've still remained shielded from spoilers...for the most part. I did stumble accross the BBC Doctor Who 50th Poster.

As posted last month I'm filling time catching up on BBC America Torchwood offerings. Tomorrow night: Miracle Day.

They have found more old 'lost' episodes

I think there's a press conference about it tomorrow.

The information is currently under embargo.

It should be made public by midnight (I assume GMT)

Oh I can't even begin to tell you how excited I was...not one but TWO nearby theaters...and about 6 in total here in Maryland.

So I had visions of sitting in the glory of an imax 3d experience. The ticket pricing isn't terrible either ($15).

Then I saw these showings weren't Nov 23. They are at 7:30pm Nov 25.

Guess who works for a local professional sports franchise with a nationally televised game on the evening of Nov 25?

Apparently there is a showing in Virginia on the 23rd...involving an hour car ride. If my son was home from college that would be a done deal. As my wife would be my companion, and she's not into Who this may be a lost opportunity.
