Yay Scooba! I have the little one since I don't have much hard flooring. Works good though and you can feel the difference with bare feet. Run it every week and it sure beats mopping.

Does this thing have the ability to climb over a floor divider or would it need to be moved to each section manually?

My dining room and kitchen floors are substantially higher than the living room. I have the metal strip room divider thingie in both entryways and it's still quite a difference. Scooba and roomba go over the great divide in either direction with no problems.

Here is a time-lapse video of the 380 doing what it does best.

I also have a HSN sales pitch of this scooba's brother. Normally I wouldn't embed it because it's the scooba's less awesome brother, and NOT the same modelat all. But I really enjoyed Playing both of these videos at the same time. It was an interesting juxtaposition, even though today's woot is much better.

Go ahead and try it yourself.
-----
Since I got A Queasy Puffer I'd like to repeat that the sales pitch is for a scooba that isn't as cool as the one you're getting today. I just liked the sound of playing both videos at the same time.

Completely ruined my sealed wood floors. Agreed to compensate for damages, then totally ignored my calls.

Note that the 390 just came out (probably why woot's got this one).

Longer runtime worth $120 more? I'd say no...

We had one of these, left streaks and left soap all over the floor. I'd avoid if I were you.

Had one it worked pretty good but only lasted a few months.Did not get it off Woot, but from IRobot. Their customer service was awful and they did not help me at all, Threw it in the trash and went back to the mop what a waste.

I like my roomba, but I'm tired of it bumping into walls all the time. With flash/memory prices so low, there's no reason these robots can't have some persistent learning.

Should be ok. From WikiPedia (A trusted source ):

Scooba 385 (European version of US 380 model) doesn't include charging base, storage mat or extra Virtual Wall (only one included).

This thing is awesome!!! I have the less awesome little brother model, and I LOVE it! I bought it remanufactured from iRobot, had some problems with it, I called them, and they sent me a new one. Great customer service. Also, I use Mr. Clean solution instead of their expensive iRobot stuff, it works great. Mine cleans for over an hour on one charge, enough to clean my large kitchen/dining room area.

Going on the video and how much moisture it's leaving all over it's random sweeps, and also that it's refreshing them again and again...
It's going to utterly screw up laminate flooring, surely?

When you own laminate flooring, mopping with a very dry mop on a clean and dirt free floor is very very easy. It's literally instant.

It looks to be the same random sweeping programming that the roomba uses, and while I see sense in it for sweeping, I don't for mopping. It's running very slowly, and from first glance it looks like a poor product.

I don't see room for both of these devices.
Am I missing something?

Bought a 385 back in 2010 for $179 on a woot off. I hate mopping, and this does an ok job. I use Simple Green instead of the "official" cleaning solution. It lets me be lazy, but for this price? I'd buy another, but I don't need one, and for this price I could buy about ten years of mops, but not ten years of labor. Your call.

I have owned 1 Roomba and Two Scoobas. I will say that they are junk. Battery problems, pump problems, poor construction that does not stand up to regular use. I have contacted iRobot about their products but never get any rel help. They lost me as a customer. On the scooba they actually told me to stand it on it's side with the cover closed and let it fall to floor until the cover popped open to get the pump to work. The thing is made of plastic and sounded like it was going to break each time. I wouldn't get this product ever again.

I realize this is a floor scrubber and not a vacuum.....however, I see so many posts here aboiut the Roomba...both good and mostly bad.....the randomness of the Roomba is bothersome to me....that's why I own 2 Neato's...one for the office and one for oiur home....works very well AND it ISN'T RANDOM....scans and plots out your room and vacuums in an organized fashion and gets everything in a rather short time.....Neato>>>Roomba....next time Woot sells a Neato for $299, get one....great machine!

I've owned one, and my mother owned one. The battery broke in both of them, rather quickly. Even after that, my mother's just stopped working completely.

I found it to be a total pain to let Scooba go for 45 minutes on a medium-sized kitchen. I could've just mopped it in 1/2 the time.

He'd also get stuck under some of my cabinets, so I'd have to set up some road blocks to prevent him from getting into the tough spots.

And then on top of it, you've gotta clean a dozen parts every time you run it. It's just not worth the effort. Mop + bucket, FTW.

Right now I'm using a Hahn steam sanitizer on our floors, and even that has drawbacks over the cordless, no-wait, mop & bucket, but it's still novel enough for us to use it.

I'd say don't buy this. Definitely not a this price, probably not even for 1/2 this price.

Love mine, almost more than my Roomba. Does it take awhile to finish? Yes. Meanwhile, I'm off doing something much more entertaining than mopping. Does it scrub the corners thoroughly? No. But did you miss the part where it scrubs the whole rest of the floor for me? I counted the parts that I have to clean afterward: 4. I dunno, maybe you're supposed to clean 12, but I clean (read: rinse off) 4. Two more than mop and bucket and, again, it repays me by mopping the whole floor by itself. It is very high on my list of appliances I would replace immediately if it stopped working, which it hasn't done in 2+ years, on the original battery.

I bought two Neatos (floor vacs) when it was offered time-before-last on Woot!. One was for my mother and the other for me. I agree with the person who says the Neato is the way to go... excellent machine!

Love, love, love my Scooba. More than my Roomba (which since has been sold). While it's obviously faster to do these jobs manually, I detest mopping. Just pushing around dirty water, IMHO. The benfit of the 2 water chambers (1 for clean, one for dirty water) speaks for itself.

I also find this far easier to clean/maintain than a Roomba (and much better for my allergies).

Lastly, I've only had 1 battery issue in several years of ownership and that was when I did not use it for an extended period of time. I have found running this at least twice a month will keep the battery like new.

I have a short list of gadgets that make my life better (Keurig, Smartphone, Kindle, Harmony Remote, etc.) and this is one of those devices. Highly recommend.

I wouldn't buy any product from this company. I was given a Roomba as a gift, and it stopped working after about a month. Despite many, many hours with customer service, it never would work again, so eventually I sent it back to them hoping for a fix or a replacement. Never heard another word. If you check around on the web, you'll see that they have a terrible reputation for customer service.

The soap may have been the problem. IRobot specifies using water mixed with either white vinegar, or water with their own enzyme cleaning solution. Using anything else will void the warranty.

(I use vinegar, never had any streaking).

Actually, it does include a vacuum as well.

...the randomness of the Roomba is bothersome to me....

??? Why should you be 'bothered' by the randomness? Both the Scooba and the Roomba are designed as multi-pass machines. In the case of the Scooba, I always assumed that the time between passes allowed the thin film of water (that is left behind) to loosen up stubborn dirt.

Based on the comparative reviews that I've read, both the Roomba and the Neato did about the same job. The Roomba does take longer, but the Neato was known to sometimes miss narrow strips.

Different approaches, both effective.

Ouch! When was this? The problem is with a valve which can stick closed, especially if not used regularly. They now recommend using air pressure (via an included rubber bulb) to open it. Works well.

LOVE my Scooba.
HATE the battery life.

I'm the type of person who will scrub my floor on my hands and knees. I can't do as good a job as this thing. Gets my floors SO CLEAN!! And when you dump the dirty water out it is black, even if I just washed the floors.

The battery, however, s*cks. I'm on my fifth battery. I keep saying "oh forget it," but after a few months of mopping myself I think, "oh I wish my Scooba was working," and then I cave and buy another battery.

I've "osmo'ed" it (thats what they tell you to do if the battery life stinks) but it seems any where I read reviews this is always a problem.

I didn't pay this much for mine but I've had it 5 years or so. I would still say get it...batteries are cheaper than a cleaning service and there's no way to get the floors this clean on your own bc it sucks up the dirty water.

My floors are white. I love my Scooba.

I had the previous model. I would suggest a mop and bucket and save a lot of cash . These things have to be cleaned after they are done. The batteries are expensive and you need to buy a Clorox cleaner or use vinegar so your home smells like a pickels afterwards.

Not surely, but very possibly. They specifically warn against using it on [brandname?] floors - 'though some folks say they do it without problems.

Yes, it does leave a film, and any surface subject to water damage could be a problem.

It looks to be the same random sweeping programming that the roomba uses, and while I see sense in it for sweeping, I don't for mopping.

I mentioned in an earlier post that the multiple passes allow the water to soak into stubborn dirt, potentially loosening it enough to be picked up on the next pass. (Pretty much the same reason that you should avoid using it on laminates.)

Mine gets stuck on a 3/8" wooden doorjam. And it broke yesterday. I've had 6 Irobot machines. They all break. Customer service is good if you're in warranty, but their stuff breaks. All of it. Under standard, non-abusive use.

We've had one of these for a year and a half with few problems--mainly occasional clogging of the tank sluice. The dog drops hair and grass we're supposed to sweep up first, but don't. Easily remedied with a couple of pipe cleaners. Otherwise, it won't pick up the dirty water.

Got this larger one because of all the tile floors we'd have to do by hand otherwise. We run through the tank twice, plus a little longer on one charge--long enough to clean about 1000 sq ft.

We had to replace the worn squeegee after 8-9 months, and it seems about time to replace the tires. That wear will depend on the type of floors you have. We run it about every 10 days.

The battery is still going strong. Be sure to run it all the way down and charge it all the way up when possible. We also charge it on a timed outlet so it's not charging 24/7, only 6 hours at a time.

We have easily gotten good value from it, and would buy another today if ours wasn't still cleaning well. The "expensive" enzymatic cleaner lasted over a year--not a bad value. Expect to replace rubber consumables every year or two. The word is still out on our battery. Overall, a great time-saving device, even for the price.

I agree. A Swiffer wet will do the same area of floor in less amount of time than it takes to fill/clean/store the Scooba. And they break!

Loved mine until it stopped working. Used it maybe 20 times and =poof= gone. Too late read these things have a habit of going south, so too expensive to keep investing in them. A shame because it was great on the kitchen tile floors ...

wssmith50 wrote:I have slate floors. The slate is not smooth like tile but rough with a lot of uneven spots. Has anyone used this robot on slate? The video only shows smooth tile.

I have unglazed tile floors, just a little coarse, and it only picked up 1/3 of the water it put down, leaving a lot of dirty water. It relies on a sqeegee to collect the water to be sucked up and, anything less than baby-butt smooth impedes this greatly, and it quickly wears down the sqeegee, making it worse.

I had 3 of these total. First one declared defective by irobot and replaced. Then I returned that one for step-up to the next model, after being convinced that would solve my issues. No-go, and since it was that Hammer-whatever store I was able to return for full refund. The problems (all 3 the same): Consistently ignored virtual walls. Left dirty water on floor. Got stuck under cabinents. Hit things head-on and just spun wheels, rather than turn, leaving black tire marks. Stayed in one place and just made noise. Traveled very slowly in jerking motion. Terrible run time, battery not up to the job.

If you gave me one and I was not allowed to ebay it, it would just sit or get tossed. Not worth the effort to put in the water and charge up.

Some obviously have better experiences. At the least you may want to consider buying from a place you can get a full refund if it does not work for you.

I also have 2 roombas, my 570 just entered it's 5th year of service. I've had to work on it quite a bit and replace numerous parts, but, not bad. That said I have been very disappointed in irobot customer service, and in their failure to address basic design flaws in the roombas over time. I got a neato a few months ago and while not perfect, it blows the roombas away.

I got mine from Woot and it died after almost a year. iRobot customer service was WONDERFUL - I had to pay $12 shipping to send the dead one back, but iRobot sent me a shipping label and very clear instructions. In 2 weeks, I had a newer model delivered to my door. VERY satisfied!

I have one of these.

When they work, they do an OK job if you limit it to a small area at a time. They do the best job if the area they are working on can't dry out between passes.

Unfortunately they don't work very long without requiring repair and iRobot's customer service is horrible. A valve on the storage tank broke and they had me going in circles trying to get a repair part and I finally gave up.

Two thumbs down.
