Please don't even bring Bose into a comparison. Bose speakers are consistently overpriced and bass heavy and I can't say that I've ever heard a sound enthusiast actually recommend Bose. In my opinion, Klipsch produces a far superior sounding product

I'm in the market for a speaker system, though I'm not really in a rush so I can hold out for a deal. Could anyone who knows a bit more about audio systems compare these speakers to buying this system: http://amzn.com/B004U40598? I've heard that most home theaters in a box aren't worth it, but this particular one, since it comes with a real receiver, seems a bit better. And correct me if I'm wrong, but it would be pretty hard to pair these Klipsch speakers with a subwoofer and a receiver for a comparable price, right?

or you for only $50 more(then this WOOT offer) you could buy this 5.1 Klipsch set with 8" Klipsch Sub included on amaz"ing"...still gonna need a reciever. however.

I have the Klipsch 2.1 system for my computer and the quality is amazing.

The horn tweeters are super crisp. At higher volumes, bass can get a tick on the muddy side, but generally speaking it's more than acceptable. The mids and highs are where these really shine.

So much so, that when I'm ready to upgrade my home theater setup, Kilpsch is the brand I will invest in. I'd take the Pepsi challenge with Klipsch to Bose any day of the week!

Just my $0.02, happy Wooting!

Here's a different kind of question: my wife and I are, er, of an age, and it means we have trouble understanding the dialogue on a lot of shows (you youngin's talk so goldarn fast!); we often resort to subtitles to help us out. Volume isn't the problem, it's clarity. We're currently using a ZVOX box, which isn't too bad.

Also...can I hook up my unused Cambridge Soundworks subwoofer to this? (even though it was designed for a computer.)

quality posts: 0 Private Messages magiccarpetrides

Depends on what kind of connector the cambridge sub uses...if it connects to the factory cambridge speakers first then no. if you want clarity for the voices...your really gonna want a high quality reciever that allows you to adjust that part of the audio. I have always had great results with Denon and Yamaha.

I'm powering these speakers with a Denon AVR-2301CI and they sound fantastic for the price I paid (which was considerably higher at the time). As far as a sub goes, I haven't experienced the Klipsch they recommend to go with it; I honestly couldn't tell you which brand mine is.

I did have a defective swivel base on one of the speakers (wouldn't stay tight enough to wall-mount the speaker, but worked fine as a stand-up unit). I bought it as an opened-box deal from a retailer, though, so that may have nothing to do with the item's quality, and the retailer replaced the speaker no-questions-asked.

Going to call Klipsch and see whassup tomorrow...if not new sub it is.

Another ? -- is this receiver the right fit OHM-wise for this set? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Denon-AVR-1312-5-1-Channel-Home-Theater-Receiver-NEW-/110868085237#ht_1916wt_1141

Looked at the specs on the reciever. You would be good to go with it, plus it has enough features and inputs to stay that way for a while. Sometimes what seems like a good deal isn't due to the item being outdated, but the one you found appears to have everything you would need.

I bought these last week when woot was selling them via Amazon. I could not be more pleased with purchase. They sound amazing. I believe Best Buy has these for $400 so this is a tremendous deal.

KATANARYDA wrote:klipsch is awesome, but for the money, I'd rather have my Energy take 5 classic, no sub. They're made by klipsch anyways. I live in an apartment, I don't want a sub.

You don't need to have a big sub, or have it turned up to a level that would disturb others, but not having any sub means you are missing out on a bunch of sound that your speakers just can't reproduce. The take 5's lowest frequency response is 115hz, which means there is a bunch of sound you have been missing. Adding a sub to your system would be almost like listening to a song on someones phone speaker and then on your energy's right after. The added dimension a sub would add would be almost that noticeable. Of course, I don't know your exact living arrangements and listening style (volume, time of day, etc.), so this is a reply I probably could have skipped. I just figured i would mention it in case you you were ever on the fence over trying one out with your setup.

I logged in to post something similar. Bose is overrated and expensive. Even their flagship speakers (901s) are weak in comparison to just about any other speaker in the pricerange. Their 'budget' and 'home theater' lines are even more so.

No comment to be made about the current product (the Klipsch Quintet) because I've not heard them. Just here to bash Bose. :-)

Am current using these speakers (the Quintet III) with the Klipsch 8" powered sub woofer driven by a Yamaha RX receiver. Love them. Have been using them for about three years now. Handles dialogue-heavy soap operas as well as musical numbers with highs and bass. I had pulled my system together for close to a grand so this is a steal in comparison.

To go from a direct-to-TV system to a working audio system you will need the following:
- A receiver (5.1 channels at least)
- A powered sub-woofer, Klipsch or otherwise.
- Speaker wire of appropriate length or a pre-wired room
- Additional cables to connect various inputs to and from the receiver.

Wish I was planning for additional rooms - then I would pick this up in a heartbeat.

Can I ask a stupid question? I bought a Kenwood theater-in-a-box stereo many years ago. It obviously does not have HDMI but was decent 500-600 Watt 5.1 receiver system with meh speakers.

I'm a big video game nerd and have a PS3, Xbox 360 and our DVR hooked up via HDMI to our television.

If I pick up these speakers, should I get a different receiver, too? I'm not sure how I would hook up all my "modern" systems to the older receiver.

The system is currently at my parents house... I might move it in to our basement just to have something while I swear at my cats and clean up their litter boxes.

I can't be a crazy cat lady because I'm not a lady. Thanks, woot-land-ia.

Suck it, Trebek.

Very unlikely a computer "all in one" sub with amp will push these into anything worthwhile. These need a bit of power to light them up. Look for a 5.1 receiver / amp to give them the needed pump.

I picked this up last week from the amazon/woot deal for the same price. Installed them last week to replace 5 speakers out of my Denon powered 7.1 system and am very pleased so far. The mounting brackets can be loosened with a hex wrench (included) and spun around for a wall mount.

I purchased mine from Best Buy on sale about three years ago for $300+ so for $200, you cannot beat it!

I would just like to say how happy I am that Klipsch has found its way back into Woot. When I first joined woot, they would have individual Klipsch speakers during the woot-offs and if you were lucky enough you could win yourself a whole set if you followed the woot-off. Well, for the past couple of years I haven't seen any Klipsch speakers and a lack of items that made Woot... well Woot. Hopefully this is the beginning of the road for Woot going back to it's roots.

I have had two sets of Klipsch setups 2.1 and 5.1. The first set had no issues with, but second set had to replace the amp because overheated and went out. After it was replace no issues.

There is a known issue with the Klipsch 5.1 amps that can be prevented/fixed with little hack. Klipsch's strength has always been speakers, not electronics.

I haven't heard the quintets, but have several Klipsch 2.1s for various PCs, and a 5.1 for backyard theater/Halloween sounds. IMO the Klipsch speakers are the best PC speakers around (I've had or heard many) The Quintets seem similar in design (maybe a little bigger) to the Klipsch PC speakers.

I'd snap these up if I had a need for them. I'm tempted to get them anyway...

Question - I'm assembling a 7.1 system; if I were to buy this, would it be possible to add 2 more side speakers later? I don't see any way to buy these individually, and it might not be cost-effective anyway. I know you can buy the sub separately, so yay.

I bought a white pair of the Quintets about 12 years ago and they're still going strong. They're fantastic speakers for the size and price. Highs and mids are smooth and clear, but like any bookshelf speaker they need a sub to really fill out the low-end. Besides the sound quality, my favorite thing about these is that the attached bases make it super easy to mount them on the wall.

$200 is a fantastic deal! If Klipsch still made these in white I would have definitely bought a set.

I have the bose in home basic set right now. It was nice a nice enhancement for my samsung flat screen. I recently set up outdoor speakers and ran them to a new denon tuner. I wanted to set up the bose to run off the tuner as well so i can have indoor music and out. it seems the bose cinemate is not made for connecting to the tuner?? so i was thinking about buying surround sound and this woot came up. Do you think this is a good fit to put in the living room and run off the tuner so i can play ipod music outstide and inside?
