I'm sorry but hands down it was ET! It doesn't even need to be classified as horror or part of a franchise.

Creepiest/scariest moment in movie history = ET staring out of the pile of stuffed animals and toys ... *cringe*

Cabin by the lake and Return to cabin by the lake are truly great horror movies even if they are made for TV.

Nothing is free but if you are lucky it can be inexpensive.

Only the best horror series ever. Jeez guys.

How exactly does the silence of the lambs movies equate to horror. If anything they are psychological thrillers.

OT: How did texas chainsaw massacre not make it on the list?

NOSFERATU! The early Dracula movie was one of the first, and that guy is still the creepiest, 90+ years later.

Agree w/Kubriak: Evil Dead. Have any of the others had a successful musical?

Great movie. Terrible franchise.

KennyZ308 wrote:Alien.... and all the sequels.....

None of the sequels were horror movies.

kubiak wrote:Evil Dead.

The Evil Dead movies are comedy. Great, great comedy.

Event Horizon

Not a franchise.

Not a franchise.

Hostel.

Nobody saw the 3rd installment, but at least it's horror.

Hellraiser

This is the only horror franchise that was great that was left of the list.

I regret to inform you that you have missed the boat; the greatest franchise of all time is the BASKET CASE Trilogy

GREAT CALL! I still find Hellraiser more iconic and scary though, but finally someone names a legit horror franchise that is quintessential.

And The Exorcist is iconic, but as a franchise... not so much.

George A. Romero's series starting with "Night of the Living Dead," Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, Diary of the Dead, etc.
(Should I mention I'll have a small role in NOTLD 2012, and also had a role in the original DotD -- in the interest of disclosure...)

I don't mean to offend, but I want some documentation. Hope I don't come off as crass, but extra-ordinary claims and all.

And also, you hostel fans, hostel isn't horror, it's gorn.

The bad guy (chained to a tree) got one and actually survived when the worm made it to the other ear BUT it was a female and laid eggs in his head. Is that the one you're referring to?

If not, well yeah, Twilight Zone was scary.

The Earwig was on Night Gallery.
