You should check out evaporative coolers. They don't require any venting. They're also less expensive than A/C's and don't use as much power. They don't cool as well, but you'll get some relief, especially if you have access to an ice machine.

Another great post... Makes me happy about my purchase

hohohoho wrote:I bought one of these last year (same reconditioned Sharp model) and can't imagine living without it. I paid approx. $375 online (I think it was NewEgg), so of course I had to snap up another one here on Woot! for 40% less! Seriously, you'd be foolish not to buy one. If you could find this elsewhere at a comparable price (big IF), consider that you might also have to factor in sales tax and/or shipping more than Woot!'s $5.00. Don't fear the single hose, it works like a charm. And you don't need to worry about emptying the water container (or hooking up a drainage hose) unless you plan on using this solely as a dehumidifier (I'm not sure why anyone would want to). Installing this in my bedroom window and then securing the sash with 4" nails to prevent further opening means that I can leave this semi-permanently installed in my window without worrying about a break-in when I'm away at work. If I'm going to be away for longer than a weekend it take all of 30 seconds to open the sash, remove the one piece exhaust hose unit, and lock the window tightly. Using a window unit is not a viable alternative as it would be too heavy/bulky to install/uninstall every time I leave the house and lock up. Does a great job quickly cooling down the bedroom, is quiet and has an easy-to-use digital remote which is programmable (unfortunately I haven't had the time to figure out how to set it). The remote's greatest feature is a useful "run for 1 hour" button that is perfect for making the bedroom comfy when I get home from work, when I turn in and again when I wake up. REMEMBER TO HAVE SOME AAA batteries on hand for the remote (as it doesn't ship with batteries and there are no controls on the unit itself--you have to use the remote). Come Autumn, the casters make it convenient to remove the unit and wheel it into an out-of-the way closet until the following Spring. Maybe you've had second-thoughts about other items you've purchased on WOOT! but this won't be one of them!

Basically, the portablility. Hooking one up temporarily would be easier because you don't have to lift the unit up and position it in the window.

I don't have one, but I can see how this would be an advantage, especially if it were on the second floor.

I ordered this and I ordered an Amana on woot!plus July 3rd. The Amana is out for delivery right now. I wish it were here last week but it isn't. The unit shipped out on July 11th which was the 5th business day. That is the amount of time woot gives for any order to ship. It was shipped from California so it had a long haul to Upper Michigan. Luckily it was sent via FedEx Ground and not Smartpost as I am sure I would still be waiting for it.

So be patient, if you have read the FAQ's or ordered here before you know things can take a while.

And put the cat on some ice!

Not sure if anyone else had similar results but I got an email at 2:46 am cst on the 18th saying my shipping info was sent to fedex. The fedex link says anticipated ship date was the 16th and delivery the 18th. So I'll be happy if I get it friday and flabbergasted if it's actually wednesday.

I got an email last night as well, the weight is 87 lbs. no dimensions and the anticipated ship date was the 16th with est. delivery on the 19th.

I too will be blown away if I get it tomorrow. I did however get my Amana that I ordered on the 3rd yesterday. Looking to hook it up today.

Anyone just now receiving their Sharp Portable AC's... I just read in the warranty sheet that was shipped with the unit that the warranty is 30-days, not 1-year as the woot page said. Waiting to find out which is correct.

Found mine waiting for me when I got home from work. They stamped "VOID" on the warranty in the manual and included a sheet with a 30-day warranty, so your eyes aren't lying to you.

Fortunately, it is running just great so far.

Ok, the buyer got to the bottom of the warranty discrepancy. Seems that Sharp changed their warranty to 30 days somewhere along the way. Don't fret though, we said it comes with a one year warranty and we are standing behind that.

So, the first 30-days will be warrantied by Sharp as noted in the documentation you received with the AC unit. After that, Woot will provide the warranty for the remaining 11 months.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email service@woot.com.

Please accept our apologies for the confusion.

Wish I could say the same, got an e-mail tuesday saying it had shipped. I checked on fedex and site said shipping on the 16th and delivery estimate 19th. Yesterday fedex site said Shipment information sent to FedEx
Please check back later for shipment status or subscribe for e-mail notifications.
Anyone at Woot know whats going on. Seems like a long time between being notified of shipment and actually shipping.

Yeah this happened to me as well, I think it's just something odd with Fedex's new tracking setup. Wait till you see the second bar on a tracking number fill in. Mine said shipped on the 16th, though I got the notice on the 18th (the supposed delivery date). It later said shipped on the 18th and arrived on the 20th (this occured). Seems like there's something funky going on with Fedex's automated system, should work itself out.

Also as much as I'd like to chime in saying it's working great my unit did not arrive in....working condition (to put it mildly). Working with woot to figure out a way to return it as apparently they have no extras. Which is a shame, I was excited about this product (and generally I've always been happy with my purchases on here).

Mine arrived with one broken caster. Other than that, the outside and all the accessory bits look brand new and it blows tons of cold air.

Called 1-800-BE-SHARP about the caster and they will ship out a replacement caster.

Nice to see that Woot is standing behind the 1 year warranty.

Mine also arrived today, didn't notice anything broken. Looks new. Irritated that they can't include the two AAA batteries for the remote. I think losing the remote would pretty much render this thing useless.
Seems to be working great and much quieter than the unit I use downstairs, even on max cool.

Mine arrived on Thursday, and just got around to opening it up. The warranty issue has already been brought up.

Mine looks to be factory new. Not a mark on it, with nothing broken. Didn't bother with the weather stripping and so the entire install, from opening to operation was maybe 15 minutes.

Puts out a ton of cold air. Previous Wooters had commented on the noise, which I don't perceive to be a problem at all. With the fan on high, with the compressor running, I'd say it was about the same noise level as a box fan on medium. Given what others said, I was expecting jet engine loud.

For those concerned about the efficiency given that it's a single hose system, there does appear to be an intake on the unit which is just capped off. I suppose something could be kludged together to have it drawing outside air rather than room air (which is already now cool).

Although it is heavy, moving it around with the casters is trivial. The only wild card is emptying the water. I'll have to wait and see how that goes.

Given the price, a great Woot!

Mine arrived with a broken caster as well. The Sharp representatives were of no help at all and only offered to sell the replacement parts to me for $82.

It also came with the wrong sized exhaust tube adapters which are meant to hook it securely to the window and the machine itself, which basically means that the exhaust tube is free hanging without any support.

I've rigged it together so that it works but it's kind of ridiculous for something like this to happen. I contacted Woot already, hopefully they get back to me and can be of some assistance.

It appears that a replacement caster (P/N 9JQ24236051) can be purchased at the following link:

http://www.partstore.com/Model/Sharp/Sharp/CV2P10SC.aspx

Price $8.31 + $5.95 s/h

There may be some cheaper prices elsewhere. I didn't take the time to search because I don't need the part. This could be a small price to pay for an otherwise "as new" air conditioner -- perhaps by Woot as a price adjustment.

My air conditioner came with old/used/yellow/broken window kit parts. I'm working with Woot to see what can be done.

I don't have any experience with portable AC but ....

Is the room humid? It could be that the water capture will lessen as the humidity drops from the AC cooling the room.

The back of this air conditioner has two circles on it. One of them you hook the exhaust hose to and put that into the window. The second one has a plastic cover on it but can be removed. What is the second one for? Should the plastic piece be removed during A/C mode?

My unit also came with a broken caster and broken window kit? I called Sharp and they said it is out of warranty and I had to call a parts store to get the part. You guys said that sharp is responsible for the warranty for 30 days and woot takes care of the rest? If this is the case, do I mention that?

Mine arrived the other day. I caught the FedEx guy as he was running back to his truck. Wait, I said. This isn't right. He came back reluctantly. I pointed out the "This End UP" arrows were pointing down. "It doesn't matter" said he, "that's only for when you're opening it". "I don't think so", I said, "since it has a ...". "I know", he said, "a compressor". He flipped the box back over and said that there's no way to tell how it was oriented in the truck for most of the shipping process anyway. He then he ran back to the truck without letting me get another word in.

A corner of the box was smashed and I, like others, had a shattered caster. I called Sharp and they wanted me to call Woot. I pointed out that their documentation said I have 30 days to complain to them and this is day 1. They agreed to open a ticket on it. Hopefully, I'll get a replacement caster from them.

In the meantime, the unit seems to be working fine (after letting it sit upright for 48 hours before powering it on to undo whatever oil shifting resulted from the FedEx shipping orientation).

You shouldn't have to drain it if you use it with the dehumidify function off.

Yeah my Fedex guy did the same thing. They don't seem like they're very bright.

And that sucks that some of you got broken window parts. I got the wrong sized exhaust tube adapters so I know how you feel.

Sharp just seems like an unreliable company when it comes to their refurbs at least. Will not be buying from them again, especially since their customer support is so horrid.

Guy who was able to open a ticket with them, I'm not sure how you did that, because even when I was able to get one of the Sharp managers on the line they refused to replace any parts for a refurb model under warranty.

Still waiting on a response from service@woot.com as well.

I received this air conditioner four days ago. It arrived in perfect condition and all of the features seem to work as advertised. I wrapped the exhaust hose in insulation and ran a hose to a floor drain in my laundry room. I had hoped to run the exhaust hose up through the vent left by my old water heater (I now have a powered, side-venting unit) but the diameter of this hose is much larger than the vent. I may still try to rig up some sort of adapter but for now the exhaust goes out a sliding window.

Now the really amazing part about this Sharp Portable AC unit...PLASMACLUSTERS! I knew from reading the manual that "plasmacluster ions will reduce airborne mold" but what I never dreamed was that they can also reduce illness and even minimize depression and speed healing. I purchased an insulative mat and a grounded wrist strap and in conjunction with the Sharp plasmacluster generator I cured myself of the H1N1 bird flu!!! It is apparently able to cure you of the swine flu too but I can't vouch for that because I only had the bird flu. (If I ever do get the swine flu I will certainly update this review.)

All I can say is thank you Woot. I thought you were only saving me from heat prostration and the discomfort of high humidity but you MAY have actually saved my life...and at an unbelievably great price to boot!

PS: Given my experience (and the thousands of similar stories that must be out there) perhaps you would consider selling a 'Woot saved my life!' t-shirt. I'm sure it is something us 'survivors' would treasure!

I placed a call to Sharp today and I was able to get a case opened up. I told them I was notified that they are responsible for the first 30-day Warranty and Woot is to take care of the remaining warranty. They seemed to have no problem with that thus far. I had to email them my invoice (I just took a screen shot of my email they sent me showing I purchased it on X day and for X amount. They said there will be someone contacting me within two business days about the replacement parts. I will update this once I hear back from them.

So far I have had to empty water twice, so I am going to build a shelf to raise it off of the floor about 12 inches so I can put a bucket under it so it makes it easier for me to drain.

Just received my AC last Friday.

Same issue as most of you - smashed wheel and also the back panel (that holds what looks like a filter in place?) is broken. These were not packed all that well, they just put a solid piece of foam at the bottom of the unit which doesn't really absorb shock if the box is dropped on a corner.

Woot told me to contact Sharp, I contacted Sharp and they said to contact Woot... lets see what happens.

I also took a closer look at the wheel - the bolt holes look like it's specific to this AC, which means you probably can't just buy a caster from a hardware store and bolt it into the same holes.
