I've had one of these for about a year no and it's been a pretty good TV. I definitely buy the same set if I had to do it over again.

Not that I was scared or anything *clears throat* but you really shouldn't be posting such scary images this close to bed time. You might give some of the *ahem* more cowardly wooters nightmares.

Now where the heck is my nightlight.

Say what you want about Vizio, I've had my 32" Vizio LCD for almost 7 years now and it still works like a champ, even after thousands of hours of video game play and who knows how many reruns of Mythbusters.

Dear woot!, while I do appreciate your not putting creepy mannequin head on screen here, I am not sure that creepy-person-standing-in-rain-who-I-feel-is-about-to-pull-some-freaky-Ring-move-and-jerkily-approach-my-screen-and-crawl-through-it is much of an improvement. Thanks for haunting my dreams. I'll be right bac-- waaaaaaaaaaait a minute. No, I think I'll just sit here in this well-lit room until the end of the movie, thanks.

Apologies. The write-up was written a few days ago before the incident in CO. The timing is unfortunate but in no way was it intentional or slighting the gravity of the incident.

Other than the 60Hz refresh this is a decent TV. I have a Vizio 42" 3D w/120Hz and it's a great set.

This one looks good, and for this price it can't be beat.

Be careful of Vizios. The money you save here, you might as well go ahead and spend on a multimeter, soldering iron, and some spare capacitors.

I have this exact TV, save for a higher refresh rate. I've got nothing but good things to say about it. Plus, my whole family has had lots of experiences with Vizio and they've all been positive. Maybe we've just been lucky, but Vizios seem to be well made and perform well, despite what some people say.

Like most Vizio TVs, this one is a great choice if you want a big TV without spending a lot of money.

I have a similar model, and I've been quite happy with it over the past two years. The contrast is a bit lacking, but easily on par with TVs in the same price range. My only other complaint is the remote...it sometimes gets confused on which button I'm pressing (possessed perhaps?).

PS: I can't speak on the refurbishness though.

Nexus

It says "USB: JPG" - I'm assuming it will only handle a memory stick for jpg files. What I'd like to know is does it do a slide slow or is there a slide slow feature?

I'm opening up my first business and would like to use these for digital menus which I would make in JPG and have it automatically scrolling through different things.

Tempted to get this. However it's >$50 more than the last 42" they had... (which is sitting in the corner of my room with a broken screen, silly FedEx shipping) and the response time is worse.

Hmmm...

Outside of Woot's 90 day warranty, what is covered by Vizio for refurbished items? If the tv stops working in 91 days, am I out of luck or can I get it fixed?

You need extended warranty to cover that.. otherwise, you are out of luck..

Unfortunately, no. You can read the manual here: http://store.vizio.com/documents/downloads/hdtv/E421VO/UM_E421VO.pdf

This LCD is not "smart tv".. you will need third-party box to make it smart

This is selling for $325 on eBay with free shipping refurbished. Search for the model #.. Only one available for $325 then more should come up for $330. Nice try Woot. @_@

Can not understand why ANYONE would buy a refurb when the warranty is what? I just got this 42 inch from CostCo on July 17 = BRAND NEW
$349.99 after $50 OFF
Hisense 42" 1080p LED HDTV - Item# 655612
This included free shipping. PLUS from CostCo you get automatic 2 year warranty and if you use AMEX = add another year = 3 year FULL warranty.
Got it yesterday and it is great.

I have the VIZIO E421VA, slightly different than the E421VO. Great picture (the 120 hz), but the sound is never in sync with the picture. It's like watching a dubbed movie.

Also changing between channels is really slow (similar to channel surfing with satellite service ... and I use OTA antenna signals, this should be instant).

Remote has a mind of it's own too (sometimes turns off when I hit the increase volume button... that's just weird).

Lastly, turning on the TV, you get a Vizio splash screen that hangs for 6 seconds (just like when you boot up your PC and see the Dell logo, for example). I don't need a Vizio ad, I just want to watch TV.

I got what I paid for, a cheap tv. I like my other TV, a 32" Samsung from 2007, much much better. Will never buy another Vizio.

Not a great deal. Like others here, I own a Vizio though mine is a 42" 240hz. We've had it for several years and it's been a great TV. However, I didn't pay much more than this at Costco and you can buy a 42" 60hz for the same or a little more, brand new at Costco... as another fellow said, what's the point of buying refurbished if you can buy new and get the full warranty for the same or similar price. Actually, the one I looked at had slightly better specs than this one on Woot as well. Pass on this one.

This is a woof woof!

I have it and like it.

I was bothered by the backlit glowing Vizio logo at the bottom of the frame, but a piece of black electrical tape fixed that really well!!

Time for one comment:

My disclaimer. If I were to ever buy a HDTV, I'd buy it from a store locally.

Woot has lowered prices when a big name supplier has a lower price, but they won't lower the price compared to eBay (by the way, the reviews over there are good for the set).

HiSense has mixed reviews when I look across the internet, but not enough evaluations for the PCMag survey. In their 2011 customer satisfaction survey of HDTV's, Vizio is middling:

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2396734,00.asp

Regarding scary scenes and that woot image today,

I thought about this instead:

Say what you want....but I will stand by what I said. CostCo has NEVER been a problem with me if I do not like something. Can you say this about WOOT?
No you can't.
Why? Because even with CostCo...if I don't like what I bought, I have 90 days to return it WITH NO QUESTIONS ASKED.
I have done this with a laptop I purchased 6 months ago which took a dump after 35 days. I returned it and got a FULL refund.
Will WOOT do this on a rufurb?

You misread what I said. I LIKE costco, I'm not sure about the brand. My parents used to belong to Costco. The point wasn't about costco. If you read my disclaimer, I wouldn't buy a HDTV over the internet, either. I just am not sure about the Hisense brand of TV. I agree that woot doesn't have the policy like Costco. If I buy a HDTV, I'll pick one of the better rated brands in the PC magazine survey above, and try to make sure I don't have to deal with a return in the first place. Please read my comments a bit more closely before responding.

Sorry if I misunderstood you. I too had/have a problem buying stuff over the internet. BUT...not with CostCo. Like I said...you can get a FULL refund...including the S&H fee (if there was one) on ANYTHING you buy from there within the 90 days with no questions asked. Like I said in a prior post, a laptop I bought took a dump after 35 days, and I even MAILED the piece of crap to them from Singapore....got my full refund back. I never stepped foot in the store to : buy it (got it online) 2. to return it (mailed it to them)

Let me put it this way. I've thought about joining costco because of the good things wooters have said about costco and my parents' experience. Just need to see if I will buy enough to make it worthwhile. The computer purchase story was good to know. I just wouldn't want to deal with a return on a tv, no matter where I bought it from. Need to finish work. Good night.
