As Much as I like those that were listed...

My vote goes to something more modern: The Mars Volta.

I would agree with Pink Floyd, but most would consider it Psycodelic rock... yes, yes, I know I misspelled psycodelic probably, but too lazy to check.

I like them all, but I will have to go with Pink Floyd, then Rush, then Tool.

1) Pink Floyd and the Alan Parsons Project are conspicuous by their absence!

2) The Who is perhaps my favorite band of all time, but they're not prog rock. Sorry. Although Tommy, Who's Next, and Quadrophenia were pretty prog-ish, those are the exception rather than the rule.

3) Nobody's mentioned The Moody Blues, arguably the founding fathers of prog rock???

My avatar wears a fez now. Fezzes are cool.

Pink Floyd definitely should've topped this list, although I would personally vote Kansas or Tull over Floyd. I simply preferred their instrumentation.

Woot.com needs to have their domain registration revoked for not including Pink Floyd in this poll.

I guess I shouldn't expect to see crack in any future woot-offs as its apparent that you guys smoked it all already.

I know everyone keeps mentioning Floyd, but I have to agree that Floyd wasn't really prog rock.

Gotta go with Rush. Not only an early member of the prog rock scene; they're still cranking out pretty amazing stuff. I'll be seeing them live in September. Woot!

Too lazy to keep updating my sig.

I'd like to start by saying I really enjoy some Jethro Tull on occasion. That said, to make a statement diminishing the talent in Rush is something that ruffles my feathers. If anything, several of their songs and even albums display a high level of technicality and prowess despite lacking in musical cohesion.

As for all the calls for Pink Floyd, I personally don't think of them as Progressive Rock myself but so I would have goofed with this list. They definitely do deserve to be listed though.

First I was thinking prog rock? What the hell is prog rock?

OHHHH progressive rock
I guess.
We just called it rock.

Pink Floyd, hands down.

Come on guys, how many bands hold up that well?

Hubby and I went to see Dark Side and my 20 something year old son and his friends were just as excited to see it as we were.

How often does that happen?

As solo artist, I like Gilmore much better.
Waters is too dark for me.

But you didn't put them on the list.
So, I voted Jethro Tull.

Pink Floyd I agree, and The Who maybe, but The Rolling Stones? Are they really Prog-Rock? They are mainstream Rock I would think

Other great Prog bands:
Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM), Happy the Man, Camel, Renaissance, Pierre Moerlen's Gong, Mahavishnu Orchestra. Return to Forever = Jazz/Fusion but one of the great bands of all time!

Oh, and Emerson,Lake & Palmer not even on the list???

Totally!! PFM rules, as does Le Orme, Triumvirat in italian prog rock. King Crimson is choice too.

+1 Pink Floyd.

Also I am very very disappointed that this wasnt an option as they are arguably the most successful prog rock band in history

I don't know what qualifies as prog rock, but ELO is the best band listed on that poll.

There are way too many to list. Talking Heads was the band that when I was in my early teens made me expand my music genre. I saw them on American Bandstand sing 'Take Me to the River'. Up until then, I listened to mostly pop & whatever my friends listened to. Watching them inspired me to look beyond pop. (I also wanted to be a bass guitarist because of Tina) I'm so glad I did. I was the ONLY girl in high school that listened to Rush. I had a Rush tee shirt & my friends would pick on me whenever I wore it. Then, while they were listening to the Eagles (ugh) I was listening to Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd & then discovered the blues!

Wouldn't label Rush as prog-rock, but they are the most talented on the list. I am surprised at the ommission of Pink Floyd and Genesis. Oh well... Woot on, folks.
