Can you send other file types with this card? I would like to send some files from one computer to another. The one computer is using VPN and does not have connectivity to my local network when on VPN.

Just to make sure everybody's aware... for certain features, you need a subscription. It's still a great deal, but you just oughta be aware.

(I got lucky; I was able to buy up a few subscription codes from a Best Buy recently that was going out of business, so I'm covered until 2016.)

got this working perfectly for my Panasonic Lumix LX5. I use the direct mode and sync pictures on my iPad when travelling and use iPhoto to edit like crazy. I love this product!

I've been using a 8Gb one for months and it is the best thing ever! I have it set up to upload pics from the camera to my iPhone. Then I can quick edit them there, email them or post them on facebook!

All of my friends usually get amazed when they see the process of wirelessly uploading a picture from the camera to the iPhone!

Just ordered 2 4gb ones... For my other camera and to have an extra one.

I had the same initial reaction when seeing these on woot before ... but I my addiction to everything woot caused me to look into it even more.

We travel, and of course that's the time we take the most photos. We've been wanting to ditch the laptop and stick with the iPads for travel, but the need / desire to upload photos to share or just clear the card was an issue we hadn't solved.

This card will let us go straight to the iPad, then iCloud, then iPhoto on my Macbook (sitting at home) without blinking. So even though I don't need the photos instantly, this is incredibly convenient.

In for the Pro X2!

Not pointless, but more to the point is that this Class 6 device is dated tech.

If you use a newer high megapixel digicam, and especially if you use a dslr, you want memory cards with the fastest write speeds you can buy. I don't think that John's comment was related to wifi transfer speed but to the memory card's Class 6 read/write capability.

So you DO or DO NOT need to be connected to a wi-fi network for this to work? I see a few people saying they use this with their phones or iPads when they travel but don't clarify where exactly they are when they can use this.

I'd love to use this to transfer pics from my point and shoot/DSLR to my iphone, run em through a photo app and blast to the internet.

Hotspot Access (meaning you can upload via WiFi at places like Starbucks and McD's), automatic geotagging, unlimited cloud storage, and unlimited access to your photos online (otherwise, they just stay in the cloud for 7 days, I think). It'll still work without it. But just so ya know...

When the camera is on with the card inserted, it will broadcast its own WiFi network. You have to connect to that network, instead of any other network you may already be connected to, and launch the Eye-Fi app to receive your pictures. You can then configure your iDevice to forward those pictures to your home computer once it detects your home WiFi network.

Step 3: Delete the pics in the camera so you don't get confused as to which you have uploaded or not. And DON'T use the camera's software, use your OS to copy them.

These cards are better for bragging at parties about what they're supposed to do rather than what they actually do. I used to used one but stopped because the process was so buggy - no way to manually initiate a transfer, transfers took forever and sucked down battery life while happening. But ,I _DO_ get to tell my friends "Yeah it's awesome, I don't even have to plug my memory card in..." and watch their faces turn green with envy. So if you're into that, there ya go. Otherwise, I'll be buying regular memory cards from here on out.

I've researched these before, so I will advise those who want to use these with game cameras to just walk away.

Apparently, they don't properly follow the SD spec; they report to the host that the write is complete once it has been cached but not yet uploaded. That makes perfect sense so the camera can take another shot. But a game camera will then turn the power to the card off to save battery life, so it never gets uploaded.

(Or so I've heard.)

So there are 2 versions listed, Connect and Pro. Which is appropriate if i am away from home and want to take pics and dump to my phone for upload?

I'm not sure 8GB is enough storage for my DLSR.

We use a 16GB card now, with each image on average having a size of 6MB. At that rate, (and doing pre-coffee math), I could only get about 130 photos on the card. That is about the mimium I would even vaguely consider for a simple outing or sporting event.

Vacation is way out.

Unfortunately, these are known to NOT work with Magic Lantern. Eye-fi does not provide support or a solution, they simply won't boot.

If you don't know what magic lantern is, it is an awesome firmware upgrade for Canon DSLRs, which adds a huge amount of features for free:

Either will work just fine as long as your phone has an eye fi app for it.

Woot CS has always come thru for me. Bought the Vizio 10.1 tablet, came busted, Vizio told me to take a hike, but Woot took it back no questions. Twice I've resorted to Woot when the refurb Woot I bought went south, both times Woot made me whole. Worked for me.

I have one of the X2 cards and love it. It is so awesome to take a picture and it's in my picture library on the computer 15 seconds later. The fact that the software can also automatically backup to FTP and email me thumbnails of the uploaded pictures is also very cool. I love to stalk my wife by calling her about pictures she has taken in the last five minutes and comment on them.

The only complaint I have, is that sometimes (and maybe it's the software on my Sony NEX-3 camera) is that when I'm away from WiFi on vacation, it will sometimes fail on writes to the card, and since it didn't upload them, they are gone. It has happeneded quite a few times, so we are in the habit or shutting down the camera after taking pictures, when using the card remotely. Probably best to switch to a regular SD card when away on vacation, since 2G isn't much room for pictures anyway.

Nothing is wrong with that.
However, the eyefi reduces it to one step:
1. Take pictures

I can be shooting out in the backyard, and by the time I come inside, it's already done. No cables, no taking the card out...nada.

I have the ProX2, and I think I've taken the card out once this year (to tell it about a new wifi on the laptop).

I have 2 of these. You need the subscription which is $35 a year to access the features like uploading to photo sharing sites.

it will allow you to upload while the camera is on, from any public network. The problems I had are:
1. most public networks still require you to agree to the TOA and the EyeFi card cannot do that.
2. the upload rate is slow no matter what network you are on, therefor the camera must remain powered on for long periods of time, many cameras have a power save mode that you can bypass, but then the battery will run low.

I wouldn't buy another.

Android phone + Dropbox free app does this already.

I can think of a couple situations where this would be handy, especially since my camera takes much better pics than my phone. I am one that uploads to FB, Twitter, etc as things are happening, so I would really appreciate the ability to do that.

But I am pretty good at getting pics off the card routinely and luckily my main camera uses a regular USB cord. I have another camera that uses a special cord (that is currently missing), so just uploading directly from the card makes the videos not play correctly. I would imagine this device would do the same thing

My wife was constantly removing the SD card in her camera to upload the pictures then forgetting to put the card back in her camera. She would pull out her camera when we got somewhere then "No Memory Card".

I got her the 4GB model a while back (at a lot higher price) and even at that cost, it was well worth my sanity to get her one.

It was a little buggy getting setup at first but has worked like a charm ever since.

I must have a defective one. In direct mode it will sporadically work or upload the first few pics then be silent the rest of the shoot. Wifi mode isn't much more reliable.

I've set my D40x to the appropriate power settings as advised on the eye-fi site with no resolution.

It makes me sad.

I'm willing to give them another shot. Shooting with a DSLR at sea and being able to automagically upload to Facebook then and there is worth it. At least buying one here at half the price I just paid and returning the other will save some money.

Is this just for the card or the card AND the adapter?

So all the pictures show this WITH a USB adapter, but it is not listed as "in the box".

I bought one to transmit photos from our Nikon D5000 to our iPad2. The app and web console interface is not very sophisticated, and the performance is unreliable. I wasn't able to get it to connect properly without a wifi access point.

looks like it requires snow leopard or less. anyone able to use it with lion?

Unless you do burst photography that fills your camera's buffer and makes you wait to continue the burst, this just isn't a problem.

I use class 4 cards in my DSLR and have never once missed a shot.

Even cheapo point & shoots generally have buffers that can hold a few shots and that's all you need to make any SD class requirements moot.
