You guys are clueless about what a good SUP costs. These things aren't inflatable rafts from Wal-Mart. My NRS Big Earl cost $1k, and a lot of non-inflatables cost more than $1500. If this thing works as advertised (if) this isn't a bad deal at all. As far as discount, though, it's not that great. Tower sells the same combo off of their site for about $550.

I wouldn't run whitewater in something that costs $100, and that's what I do with my Big Earl.

I agree, I find it funny when people that are not knowledgable about SUPs make uneducated comments.

This price is pretty good for an inflatable SUP. I personally don't know anything of the brand, nor it's quality, but it states it is military grade, so that's a plus. Whomever made the Walmart comment, those boards are very low quality.

My Boardworks inflatable was $1150 without paddles, leash or jacket. A carbon fiber paddle is another $200. My BIC hardboard was $899 without paddle, lease or jacket.

SUPs can reach $2000+

Inflatables are great because they are transportable. I recently went to the west coast and took my inflatable with us. I can't do that with my hardboard unless I want to chance damage from the airline.

To each his own though. But, please educate yourself before making unfounded comments.

There is no snobbery like paddleboard snobbery.

Hard information on this thing is amazingly difficult to find. "Military grade" does not tell me squat. I'm quite sure there is "military grade" toilet paper out there, but that does not mean it's good to use. From what I gather, it's made of either PVC or Denier fabric and is built like the floor in an inflatable boat. (air deck)

It's amazingly wide and thick for it's length. I'm betting it's slower than an oil barge and is a bear to paddle in any sort of chop or wind.

That said, I'd buy one for a backup if it was in the $200 range. Right now, I can buy several entry level rigid models with better performance at Academy for under $350.

The whole manufacturer's website comes across with a greasy snake oil feel.

That being said, they had an inflatable kayak a little while back for less than half this price, that was very tempting.

Agreed. That's the one thing that bugs me about this board. The company was on Shark Tank and Mark Cuban bought in, so I can imagine that's his marketing genius at work. When the whole store is on sale, and 50% off at that, it looks like it's going out of business.

Also, not many legit reviews of this thing by non-company sources, which makes it difficult to feel comfortable with it. Overall it feels like buying something from GoDaddy. Probably just fine, but I feel like I need to check my pocket to make sure my wallet is still there when I'm done.

From an ocean surfers standpoint, SUP's (Stand Up Paddlers) are a joke. It's bad enough when a SUP paddles out on a fiberglass board, but on an inflatable? Give me a break.

Back on topic: An inflatable SUP board? This could be good for those really flat days or for fooling around in a lake. Anyone have any idea how it handles once on a ride relative to a standard glass board? Does the inflatible-ness make it less precise?

A positive review here:
Stand Up Paddle Board Reviews Headquarters
"The Tower Adventurer 9’10″ Inflatable SUP (6″ Thick) with Pump and 3-PC Adjustable Paddle retails for about $600, which makes it one of the best deals on the market for a paddle board of any type. For an inflatable board with a pump and a paddle of this quality, this is an extraordinary price, and makes the Tower Adventurer an ideal board for getaways or a companion."

At Amazon here for $579:

Sounds good to me..

I have been looking for a entry level SUP for awhile. I want to bring it to a neighborhood lake on nice days. Living in seattle that is about a two week period... So I want something cheap since I will not use it often. Any help?

I passed up on this board when I saw them on Shark Tank... I never liked that they discounted everything %50 all the time... feels like a scammy thing to do.

Is it me or do I see the grip sticker part peeling up on the back of the board?

Here in the woot video on this product:

You can see it around 1:34 and 1:55

Seems like it is coming unglued... is that normal?

If you look at our photos, it looks like it's a raised lip on the board. Maybe so you know you're near the edge?

Yep. Agree 100%. We (the old wooters) were a smaller community back then. Woot itself has become HUGE. I'd say they started really changing in 2007 around the Yahoo partnership.

I miss the Sansas and LeakFrogs...

I think woot should add a tab for us old wooters called "Woot! Classic". Complete with the old purple banner and borderline 90s design, they could bring back some of their classic merchandise!

Being a native of CA, it's easy to see why... I don't know anything about windshield de-icers so if woot put a crappy one up, i'd be more inclined to buy it.

If I didn't already have 5 SUPs (including one inflatable) I would buy this without hesitation. If you've never SUPed before this will keep you happy for at least one good season as is, or maybe longer with a $150 investment in a decent paddle. And once you get hooked and get yourself a real board you will have a spare board for visitors, kids, friends, paddling the rivers, and a portable board for raod trips. Really, if you want to get into SUPing this is a great and "affordable" way to go.
I can't vouch for the company, but it looks like fairly basic construction and surely adequate. The extra thickness is nice to have in choppy / whitewater conditions and should contribute to stiffnes. Thicker boards, especially infatables, are likely to be blown off coarse in the wind. The thruster fins look fairly worthless but may allow for some cool tricks while surfing river waves with the center fin removed. The shortness of the board, added thickness, and the weak side "fins" mean you will be switching paddling sides more than your friends in order to keep the thing going straight.
I like the look of the pump with attached pressure guage--will probably take big muscles to get up 15 PSI, however.
I'm sure the paddle is heavy and too flexy but you won't regret it wheng your beginner friends are out there thrashing it on the rocks.
Obviously, this is not a race board but it is good enough to paddle with (and keep up with) any group of leisurley paddlers on flat water.

Dude, not everyone lives on the ocean, or wants to be mr cool surfer dude. I live in Montana, and surfboards don't work in whitewater. So SUPs are actually pretty interesting for that. Ditto for regular river running. And inflatable SUPs are great for river running, especially if you have a chance of hitting any rocks. Try bouncing a fiberglass board off of a rock in a river and see how happy you are...

Admittedly I wasn't thinking of buying one new, but I live somewhere very sporty where they've been all the rage over the last few years and there are tons and tons available on craigslist. (It's true of a lot of sports equipment- there are a ton of people here who always have to have the newest thing, so there's a lot of stuff that's only a year or two old).

http://www.towerpaddleboards.com/v/how-to-inflate-sup-board.htm

I cannot believe how stiff and strong the board is when inflated, and it works GREAT in moderate chop on our lake. The paddle shaft is carbon fiber, so no flex, and it's adjustable. We are VERY satisfied with the two boards that we purchased.None of the comments that I read here dissing this SUP apply, they work great.

Bought two and couldn't be happier. Their website does show the package for $599 so this was a great deal at $499 with the $5 all you can ship. Pumping up takes about 5 minutes, rolling up after finishing takes a couple of seconds. Very stable and really quick in the water. I have used it like a surfboard and just paddled with my arms. Very quick. Maybe because it has air in it? Or sits higher on the water? Just a couple of theories. My friends and I run from the back of the board to the front and do flips and dives.

I have a convertible camero and one fits in the truck with two pumps, hoses, and 3 piece paddle. I think I can get the 2nd one in if I really do a tight roll up but it's easier just to throw it in the back seat.

i bought one and was PUMPED.

I've been renting SUPS for the past 2 summers and have been in the market for an affordable option.

Unfortunately, the one-way valve for inflating the board completely broke away and fell in after the first inflation in my living room.

probably a fluke but i'll just save up over the winter and invest in a "real" fiberglass board next season.
