Happy Music Monday! Today's the start of Back to School week here on the blog. Yeah, we'd rather be keep talking about summer as well, but that's part of the joy of going Back to School. You've just gotta dig in and make the best of it. Scott's starting with the hymn of delinquents everywhere. You know it. Sing along!

Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2

How many hit songs have "Part 2" in the title? This smash hit set the new standard for radio hits, and it's so good that Roger Waters hasn't done anything else but tour in support of it for like two decades. Yeah, be mad all you want, it's still true. And yet, when this comes on the radio, we'll sing along with it just like you will.

Inside you'll find some more school-based music, a link to our Spotify playlist, and people telling Scott what songs he missed. Hurry inside before the bell rings!

Before we matriculate together, remember our Spotify playlist will be featuring a great selection from last week's Music Monday comments. The theme of the mix this time is Reggae and it's the perfect sound for cuttin' class on a nice day. But before you start reminiscing, check out our current Music Monday below!

The Four Tops - Back To School Again

You're right, dear reader. Grease 2 isn't actually on ANYONE'S list of best high school movies. But the opening song from The Four Tops? Not so bad, right? It's catchy and upbeat and has that swagger of a kid trying to prove themselves to everyone they meet. Thanks to The Four Tops, everyone can keep fond memories of the first eight minutes… okay, maybe three or four of the first eight minutes… okay, well, it's a decent enough song.

Jeannie C. Riley - Harper Valley P.T.A.

Helicopter Mom? Well, perhaps. But I prefer to think of it as a mother who knows how to protect her family from a bunch of busybodies. Maybe some of you teachers would find "Momma" an annoyance but sometimes a parent just has to point out that school isn't real. When you get that first job, nobody's gonna care what grade you got on a fourth grade pop quiz.

Lulu - To Sir With Love

But at the same time, a truly inspiring teacher? For a young person, there's nothing like it at all. Having an authority figure who won't give up trying to shape you, even when you fight against it tooth and nail… that's sometimes what leads a hoodlum to be a hero. Lulu's song (and the scene before it) kinda sums that feeling up. Sometimes that's teaching's only reward.

The Beach Boys - Be True To Your School

Fine. If we have to admit it, the back to school blues vanish around mid-September. Learning is hard work, but being able to hang out with your friends all day? That's not so bad. And you know them, they can make anything memorable. There's football, there's dances, there's a soda machine in the cafeteria, and really there isn't anything on television in the afternoon… well, maybe it's okay to be a little bit proud of the school you call your own. At least until next June.

Scott missed a few, so get in those comments and educate him! Then meet us in our Turntable.fm room for the regular Music Monday enjoyment. Also, let us just remind you: some images come from the corresponding Wikipedia page and are here under fair use.

Along with the above "Hot for Teacher" I was thinking the converse: "Don't Stand So Close to Me" by the Police. If only my teachers looked like Sting.

I'd say that's more of a "school's out" song than a "back to school" song.

anyways, this song isn't really about school but it always reminds me about school Fang Island went to a Kindergarten class and performed their song "chompers" Unfortunately there were more people dancing at this show than there were at the concert I went to last week.

They also have a song called Kindergarten You can stream it over at NPR

You know, the school-related aspects of that song do tend to be overlooked.

Some of us started thinking about the last day of school before the first day of school.
