No. I did it too. The jump drive was not advertised as waterproof but the data was still there. It's been a couple of years and I'm still using that drive.

BEWARE.. I purchased the 64 GB model in June and it failed last week less than 2 moths later.Nothing will read it and it will not reformat or be accessed by any repair software...

And not getting any good response from Centon Customer Service. Said they would get back to me "shortly" and that was 4 days ago.

I bought two of the 64GB units when woot had them last... they were SO incredibly slow I gave them away. 128GB is nothing if you can't realistically use it. Hit up Newegg for a 64GB USB 3.0 Corsair Survivor for 59.99 through August 22. They are regular 75 but have a $15 off promo code. I bought five tonight for the office and the promo code knocked off $15 for each unit in my order... now that's a deal IMO...

Do you still have the promo code handy for newegg?

Add me to the list of Centon 64GB datastick customers from the previous Woot that received bad units. After about 2 weeks of back and forth with Centon customer support, the data stick went back yesterday for replacement. The money you save won't be worth the time you spend on this thing......

I bought two 64GB sticks from woot in the past that were these ones, and both stopped working within a few weeks. I will never buy a Centon product again! I contacted there support, but they weren't any help. They wouldn't take it back or anything.

Try this:

1. Start > search bar -> CMD and press enter
2. type> diskpart
3. type> list disk
4. type> select disk # (# is the number of the USB HDD you’ve pluged in)
5. type> attributes disk clear readonly

Worth a try.

Thanks.

I tried that on a Windows 7 box and it also did not work.

I have tried to reformat or LLF under XP, OSX, Ubuntu, and the Acronis drive erase tool.

No luck with any of them.

Still no response from Centon.

Yeah, sticks in this size range just seem to me to be too much "all-your-eggs-in-one-basket" type of things.

This is why I typically use thumb drives as transportation devices and not holding devices.

That being said, thumb drives have generally proven very reliable, more so than a lot of HDDs I've used. I've seen thumb drives survive time and catastrophe like a champ.

That being said, for just a few more bucks you can get a 1TB WD external. And let's not forget, WD is the one that actually removed slave labor from its production line, unlike the competition. Hurray for not enslaving people for data storage.

Amazon has the same for $86 - much better deal here for the 128GB. If you need something smaller, they have good prices on the smaller Centon Data sticks.

I called numerous times after submitting their tech support form. Finally chose their sales extension and they tracked down a tech support person who sent me and RMA.

128 Gb at USB 2.0, no way. My 32GB 2.0 takes forever as it is. 128 at USB 3.0 you got a deal.

These drives really suck - I got the 64 gig from Woot a few weeks ago and it failed right away. Will never buy anything again from Woot.

Stay away.

Don't buy.

[quote postid="5125671" user="PemberDucky"]you've been around since 2005, and now - NOW - you're disappointed in an offering?

Yeah, but this seems even worse than woot standards, which is REALLY bad. According to the comments here, this thing has like a 90% FAIL rate...and I don't mean fail like the performance is bad (which is also the case) but fail as in it breaks, making it not even useful as a paper weight- cuz obviously it would fail at that too.

I bought one of these the last time it was up on WOOT. It sucks. Big time. The stupid thing locked up and I lost almost two weeks worth of data. I managed to salvage a little bit, but I still lost six new chapters of a story I was writing. Not happy. At all.
