Had one of these- no luck. Sony products seems so poorly made these days.

I have a Sony clock radio/iPhone dock. The sound isn't that great, even with the bass boosted. This one likely sounds better, but in this segment, you have a lot of choices. Choose wisely.

Personally, I like Altec Lansing's sound docks. Used to have them on Woot but that was a few years ago.

I have a similar sony speaker system (not exactly the same) and it's wonderful, I tested ALL the speakers at Best Buy and the Sony had the best overall sound (that would pick up low and high tones in addition to the midtones that Bose throws at you in abundance) and the best volume.

It's unclear though if this unit can take batteries or has its own rechargeable battery inside? Or does it always have to be plugged in as a power source?

Does anyone else realize that your ELECTRONIC DEVICE is going to be directly in front of MAGNETS?.......... Screw Apple products anyway sticking with Android.

If you have trouble connecting this or any other 3rd-party device to your iPhone because of your 3rd-party case, CableJive makes a simple adapter that not only makes the connection but lets non-compatible devices charge the phone as well. I bought a different dock here at Woot and use the CableJive without any trouble. Where I used to take the case off and get the "this device can't be charged" message, now everything works great. Which will not affect it whatsoever.

Honestly, after using bluetooth speakers, the idea a docking station has very little appeal to me anymore.

Got a Bose Sounddock "refreshed" at the outlet store for $129 a few months ago. If you have such a store nearby, seems like a better deal.

Knowing Sony, I'm surprised there isn't a built-in chip that searches your device for "shared" music and prevents it from playing.

My girlfriend bought this a few months back. We tried a bunch of different ones in best bu and the was by far the best. We are very pleased and use this all of the time. It does ask you if you want to download sonys app bu I ever have on my iPad ad t works wonderfully.

I would recommend ponying up and buying a Bose soundlink. It's bluetooth compatible, has a long lasting rechargeable battery, and great sound.

I gave this sound dock a listen in the best buy and decided to go with teh Bose because Bose had by far a superior sound.

Over seven hours in and only 16 comments. Where have all the Wooters Wooted Off to? Bigger is not better in the case of Woot!

I have this model and it has a rechargable battery that last quite a while. I used it all summer by the pool.

Does anyone else (besides you) care? No magnetic storage in either iDevice or Android. No interference. No problem!

Regardless, this is another time woot is amazon's dumping ground. Last generation's tech for a small discount.

Ive always bought sony products and love all of them from my tv to my camera. The one thing you have to remember is that sony dumps all there R&D money into tvs. Buying sound from them you get a decent product for the money bet there are a lot better products out there if your willing to spend a little more. Sony's tvs are top of the line and they are also the company that invented bluray and 3D. The major downside to this product is no Iphone 5 support!

Well I think some things must of changed since the 80's. There isn't any magnetic storage in a solid state memory device. Most of us stopped using floppies years ago in our mp3 players.

Look again. That is not a iPhone 5. Easiest way to tell is by the number of icon rows

What? No Woot-Off today? I thought it would be today for sure. Eight years ago today was the first ever Woot-Off.

I'm sorry to say this but the specs are horrible for audio equipment.

Take these specifications for example:

Output: 15 W + 15 W + 30 W (at no more than 10% harmonic distortion)
Frequency Response: 100 - 10,000 Hz

10% harmonic distortion is totally unacceptable in ANY audio device. I don't care what kind of crap you're used to listening to.

The frequency response is also horrible. No lows and, no highs!

The lows should be below 100Hz and the highs should be above 10kHz. My god people, don't waste your hard-earned money on such garbage audio equipment.

Then again, I guess the smartphone wielding public has a very low audio/video requirement and think that "computer speakers" are great!

Two misconceptions there.

1) Only the iPod Classic has a magnetic hard drive. All the other iPods, and the iPhone, use flash storage, which isn't affected by magnetic fields.

2) Lead won't be very good protection against magnetic fields. You need something magnetic, like iron. You'd use lead to block ionizing radiation, so it wouldn't be helpful here unless the Sony speaker is nuclear-powered.

woah, you mean it won't work with the ipone 5? You're KIDDING. I never would have figured that out! Thank god there's some tech savvy people hovering around their keyboards apparently 24 hours a day to bust into these woot deals and educate us nitwits on the iphone 5 incompatibility issue. I'm sure I never would have figured that out without you, it certainly hasn't been in the tech news, let alone the regular news, at ALL lately!

I'd urge anyone considering this item to think twice and look elsewhere for a better system, or wait for one to show up on woot. Sony iphone speakers are TERRIBLE.
