Something I can use! A gadget, a book, anything like that!

Something practical, something I can use/play with/build, etc. Not a big fan of getting (or giving) decorative gifts. Sometimes it takes a while to find the right gift for someone because I refuse to settle for a gift card or a statue that will just sit there.

Something functional to make my life easier. I could wish for a new car to replace the one starting to fall apart...but it doesn't have to be so extravagent. An ereader since I read over 100 books a year, a step-stool so I can actually reach the top shelf in the cupboards, a decent ice scraper for winter, a good Aloe Vera gel for sunburns in summer. Things like that.

Something I can DO. Like tickets to a game or show, or theme park, or a gift card to an interesting restaurant.

Something I want but didn't want to spend my money on.

Something that gives me thirty minutes of happiness and then sits on the shelf the rest of the year.

Something I can play with. Gadgets and toys are the best gifts.

Something I can take apart, needs assembly, tinker with, use with something else, reusable, and/or techy.

Totally agree... Most gifts are things I might buy for myself anyway. But a gift that's an "Experience" can be worth so much more.

I actually don't like gifts. At this time in my life, I can afford to get myself anything that I need, so I already have it. (I'd rather give than receive.)

Something I need to turn "ON".

Something practical I can use: computer, car, house.

I like something we can use together, just me and the person giving me the gift.. Maybe a lady friend gives me some lotion.. guy friend gives me A NEW skill saw or drill. Then we can do some bonding... yeah..

USE/NEED

For years, books and CDs were tops on my wish list. CDs are essentially obsolete, and while there are some books that I still want a hard-copy, they are the minority. "eGifting" those things just isn't the same. Quite frankly I have become a lot harder to buy for.
