Do you feed that wired probe out the window for the outside temp?

I wondered what the "probe" was for.

wired outdoor thermometer? that makes no sense

I got one of these for Christmas as a gag gift but I swear, I love looking at it every 5 minutes or so. Not only for the time, but also to check the temperature. It doesn't matter that I have an iphone/ipad/laptop RIGHT beside me. I look over and BOOM, there it is.

I stuck it in my window against the screen and shut the window completely. The only time it's off is when the sun is directly hitting it.

This is great to have at the house to see how far off the crappy $10 thermostats you get from Home depot are.

I don't know how good this brand is, but my meteorologist brother got us a similar one years and years ago - great to see the exact temperature first thing in the a.m., and so addictive that when the probe finally broke, we immediately bought another. In for 2 for the kids' apartments!

A few days experience with the probe (in case of future sales) - it takes a single AAA battery, which I anticipate to last a very long time. The probe is not huge - about the size of a BB on the end of a fairly long wire. The wire itself seems on par with a meat thermometer (it occurs to me that, if the max temp allows it, it could work inside a Smoker). The temperature seems accurate enough. Setting the time was quite an exercise - I don't have much confidence that I'll be able to set it for the next time change. For the low single-digit price, I find it to be an adequate tool. If there's any need to rely on the precision...I think you should expect to get what you pay for.
