Except for the description where it says it's for the "smaller lighter cameras."

I guess that's open for interpretation. The load capacity is about 4.5 lbs.

I wanted it until I saw the load capacity. DSLRs are at least 5 lbs or more with lenses and bodies.

IMHO, yes, it's a pretty good height for most folks' applications. It'll get you over the heads during a seated event, and allows for good head shots during standing / mulling around activities.

Actually, the Canon Rebel yesterday was 17.4 oz for the body and 7.1 oz for the 18 - 55 mm zoom = less than 2 pounds. If you're putting a big honking zoom lense on it to take close ups from 50 feet away, then the overall weight will be a lesser problem than the torque from the load.

For MOST people and a majority of applications, this will work fine!

Just sayin'

I suspect that it would do fine.

Typically use a monopod, personally, as it's easier to use. Obviously, not as stable!

Great- now I know my problem. I just need to find where I'm keep those 6 extra cameras. Not another body cavity search!
