Poll: How many toes does a three-toed sloth have?
  • 14.3% - Three. DUH. Is this a trick question? 435
  • 34.4% - Six. You can’t fool me, Woot! 1046
  • 43% - Depends. Is this sloth an amputee? 1309

Well, how do you fare compared to the Zeitgeist? Chat up your fellow wooters and let us know how lame this poll was or what obvious choices we missed. For example: Was this poll a) STUPID, b) DUMB, c) POINTLESS or d) ALL OF THE ABOVE?

Actually, wouldn't it be twelve, given that it has, presumably three toes on each of FOUR feet?

3 toes on each foot. So 12.

Although those are actually 2-toed sloths.

From Wikipedia: "They are frequently referred to as three-toed sloths, however all sloths have three toes, the difference is found in the number of fingers; meaning they are now more appropriately referred to as three-fingered sloths."

So, 6 toes and 6 fingers, total.

Good find! Very cute

It looks like 2 "toes" on the front feet and 3 toes on the back feet. If the two front limbs are going to be said to have "toes", then that makes for 10 on that one.

I give this quiz the three-fingered sloth, double amputee, salute. ;-P

I thought we did already think about it and concluded that it is certainly not 12...? Guess everyone missed that

Depends... Is the sloth buried in Grant's tomb?

Okay, how about calling them "12-Digit Sloths?"

efiore

Seems like a trick qustion: 12 digits ... six toes and six fingers. The two-toed sloth also has three toes on each foot, but only two fingers on each forefoot.

So Woot asked about toes (6) not fingers (another 6) and if indeed the three-toed sloth has 4 "legs" but two of those "legs" have "fingers" the front "legs" must not be "legs" but "arms" so clearly the biologists get to call this one as they have a "leg" up on the rest of us and "armed" with more knowledge as we can't seem to put our "finger" on the real problem/question,

(anybody have any quotation marks I can borrow as I seem to be out?)

We need to define toe vs. finger. How much usage/dexterity does a toe need before you can call it a finger? Being on the front leg is not enough as dogs and cats don't have fingers...

If the front ones are fore-'feet', would that make the digits fore-'toes' or fore-'fingers'? Or should we just play through...

I'd say 16. Three on each front foot and 5 each on both rear feet, for a total of SIXTEEN.

Just talked to the local sloth and he said
" I've got me ten fine toes to wiggle in the sand.
Lots of idle fingers snap to my command.
A lively pair of heels that kick to beat the band.
Contemplatin' nature can be fascinatin'.
Add to these a nose that I can thumb,
And a mouth by gum have I,
To tell the whole darn world if you don't happen to like it deal me out,
Thankyou kindly Pass Me By"
