LED....SO The lights have a pretty good life I would assume. Still do you just toss them if light burns out?

say you have recessed lighting in your kitchen - but no stereo.

install the transmitter on some audio output device, this lightbulb/speaker is also a receiver. so it will play stuff from your mp3 player/radio etc.

Yeah, that's one of the big complaints -- they're LED, so they should last years depending on use. But really, by the time the LED burns out, they'll probably be something a lot better and cheaper on the market anyway.

At $15 per I would consider but at this price point is a non starter.

No mention of ability to do channels (stereo, surround, etc).

its just a single speaker. no single speaker can 'do surround'. its only as good as what you feed it.

It's addressed in the manual, the speakers have L | L+R | R toggle switches

It's not a single speaker it's 2 lights and yes it does do stero...you will be impressed

This only comes with the Apple transmitter? Details state that one of 3 different transmitters can be used, but in what is included states only Apple 30-pin.

and sure, it can 'do stereo', if you get 2, and you feed them a stereo audio source.

it can also do 7.1 dolby surround, if you feed it 7.1 dolby surround

Dang, had I not already spent nearly the same amount on really nice LED bulbs for the 4 can lights in my kitchen just a couple months ago, I would TOTALLY be in for 2 pairs. I have a HTPC in the living room and it'd be really cool to supplement the sound in the kitchen area.

I have to assume that if you turn off the lights at the switch, the sound goes with it since the power at the outlet is cut. That's one drawback but the LED bulbs don't burn that much juice or put out that much heat, compared to incandescent bulbs, so I guess it's not a huge deal.

Downside: One would need to buy an additional transmitter ($40) to hook up to stereo to use as rear or remote speakers.

It would appear from the images in the description that the $99 cost includes two lights.

What if you want to connect to other music source besides Apple 30-pin - like just a simple standard A/V line plug-in? Or is it Apple 30-pin or bust?

Do a Google search and you'll find it also does USB and RCA transmitters (as extra, but runs about $40 each)

Was going to get a couple of pairs, but decided I didn't want to shell out the extra bucks to be able to hook up to the stereo in the family room

I bought a pair last time and want more. Only the apple connector is kind of a bummer, but you could probably sell off the apple one and get the usb or universal if you had to...
