Um, I don't think that word means what you think it means.

"Sateen" is not a different kind of cloth or a different species of cotton. It's a term used to describe when cotton is prepared/woven a certain way. Its use in a description does NOT mean that the item described is a blend of different materials or of different kinds of cotton. When sheets are described as "Egyptian Cotton Sateen," it just means that the cotton was woven in a specific way that (if done properly) makes it softer and silkier to the touch.

If you had 1000 TC sheets that were "stiff," then they were probably woven from inferior cotton OR the term "Sateen" was used inappropriately/inaccurately.

BEWARE that TC does not mean Thread Count! TOO many manufacturers are pulling this stunt

Can someone please tell me if these sheets will feel a little tooo satiny? I am not a satin fan just a cotton one :D

i desperately need new sheets and have been tempted all day to order these, but i can't keep plunking money down on new sets that turn out to be crap.

I'm tempted to so I looked at the ones you bought to see a comparison and saw a huge red flag!! "Made in China"

We have 1 set, or used to, that were a very high thread count, sounded great and were priced great. It was like sleeping on parchment paper.

I'm hoping these from India, are the real deal. I'm tempted, but really hate taking chances on textiles. There's so much double speak and smoke and mirrors in the industry and the FTC stays busy making them clean up their misleading language.

Amen! Supima and Pima sheets have a great feel and are super durable. I have found that a good quality supima set in 250tc feels as good or better than a 700tc egyptian cotton.

These just say "Egyptian" It does not say "long-staple". This is a KIND of cotton, it does not mean that it comes from Egypt. (Most "Egyptian" cotton is now grown in other parts of Africa.)

Sateen is the weave of the sheets. It means they weave 4 strands across for every one strand down. That means it feels softer, but these sheets are more apt to pull, tear, wrinkle and hold heat than a percale weave sheet which has one strand down for every one across.
For my money, the best bet is a Supima cotton or Egyptian long-staple cotton in a percale weave. Oh, and make sure it states single-ply

I just received a set of calking deep pocket (20") from woot's cousin Amazon today. They are in the washer getting prepped for installation on my bed. This set of Egyptian cotton was made in Pakistan.

I guess I am the only kook who despises SATEEN? I hate the shiny look, and the slippery feel.

It is hard to find high quality non sateen sheets. : ( The ones I have now, are great, but I have to IRON them!! ARGHH.

Actually, relying on thread count as a gauge for quality is a mistake, period, and you need to know more than just whether it's Egyptian cotton. Read any of these to understand why:
