Hmmm, without the correct parenthesis makes it hard to tell what to take to the power. Nothing working.

Sigh... I will admit it. I'm no longer a math genius. The fact that I got all the figures I need from Wikipedia easily but still took 5 tries to calculate the right answer proofs it.

Oh, I would also point out that missing closing ) threw me off BIG TIME.

Is there some secret? I can't even see it prior to being sold out which means people are adding it and checking it out before I'm close

That one seemed tricky because you had to guess how much to round Avogadro's constant.

Because the 2nd one was 2 decimal places, I assumed the first was.

Lol, awesome.. screwed for being an engineer and knowing it to 3 decimal places off hand = wrong answer. Tried 6.022*10^23 and several more decimal places.. never thought to try LESS. Someone should have specified SD's.

I used the whole 6.02214179*10^23 figure and could not get the answer.......

Argh! I guess I was trying to be too exact since used 6.0221413 * 10^23 for Agogadro's Number

I had 6.022 because that is what I was taught, but when I saw the nails was 9.85 meters, I only went 2 places to match and it worked...too bad I was too late.

The percent hasn't been accurate for hours. If you look at the stats, some have been sold.

PEMDAS... Parentheses, EXPONENTS, then multiplication, div, add, sub.

Gotta work on your math skills Woot.

Arghh........... I did the same too!!! Turns out it's (8*7.5)^3, not 8*(7.5^3) like it's supposed to! (power takes precedence over multiply, Woot Gods...)

Great. I got screwed thanks to Woot's lack of order of operations..

Exponent first... then multiplication. 8 * (7.5^3) = 3375

It's been a while since I've had a math class, so this might be completely wrong, but doesn't order of operations dicate that ^ operation should be completed before * (as there are no parenthesis for the numbers, just 8*7.5^3)... So in the current example shouldn't it be... 7.5^3= 421.875*8= 3375, rather then the excepted solution of 8*7.5=60^3=216000?

Edit... In the time it took me to write this, looks like many others have already chimed in

kevin0425 wrote:okay so why doesn't 8* 7.5^3 work?

The way Woot wrote it out it whould have been executed in THAT order and NOT (8*7.5)^3...

goddamn interns at Woot with their english degrees...

I assumed that they had forgotten a set of parenthesis around the (States that start with "M" ) * (Floor # in "Being John Malkovich")

parts since most of their equations have been in the form (A * B)^ C. I made a correct assumption but I was still too slow.
