Well, how do you fare compared to the Zeitgeist? Chat up your fellow wooters and let us know how lame this poll was or what obvious choices we missed. For example: Was this poll a) STUPID, b) DUMB, c) POINTLESS or d) ALL OF THE ABOVE?

Custard. Unless it's from Krispy Kreme. Then it must be Kreme-filled.

The best donut for the job is a bagel. Cinnamon and raisin or seasame seed, sliced, toasted, with cream cheese. Einstein Brothers coffee. Ahhhh....

Plain buttermilk bars from Alex's Donuts on Franklin St. in Hollywood, CA. This was in 1988, so they might not be there anymore.

They'd better be chocolate frosted! And why do they use glaze on their jelly donuts instead of powdered sugar? Gross!

Non-fat, but taste like regular doughnuts. Yes, I know they don't exist, but whenever someone captures the smell, texture and flavor without a giant dose of fat or unhealthy substitutes, they'll make a fortune!

Meanwhile, the ones I miss most are buttermilk, bear claws, apple fritters and my favorites... hot malasadas from Leonard's!

When rich or powerful people propose a change, it is designed to make them richer or more powerful.

Dark Chocolate or Allen's Coffee Brandy potato donut from The Holy Donut in Portland, Maine.

Apple fritters are in a world unto themselves.

The best donuts I have ever had are the glazed donuts at our local gas station. The guy makes them fresh every other morning, and they are so light, sweet, and utterly mouth-watering that he usually sells out fast. My co-workers even say his are better than Krispy Kreme!

Best Donuts make the best doughnuts here in town, but if you are ever get to Portland, Oregon, you MUST experience the ambrosia that is Voodoo Donuts. Their Maple-Bacon concoction is to die for!

#1 donut - the bacon-maple at Dynamo in San Fran. Haven't been there in a couple years, though.

Since I live in CT, the best around here used to be Luke's (praise the lord) donuts, but I haven't gotten out there in MANY years, and from Yelp, it looks like it's changed quite a bit.

Best in southern CT is Whitney Donut Shop. They have a cinnamon sugar cake donut that is amazing!!! I never get tired of it and am very happy that I don't live too close, or I'd be twice my current weight.

Not even a mention of the so-called "cronut", the most unfortunately named pastry of our generation?

I'm a fan of the French cruller.

Where is the "select all that apply" option? I would have said long john AND cream filled.
Next question: where are the best donuts? I would love to hear from others to I know how to plan trips.
