A little shady isn't it?

I assume it's so you can't take it to new egg and have them match price, since it's an "unknown."

I got one of these, and its a refurb of a refurb. The globe sticker covering the HP logo was on crooked on mine, after a couple hours, it had to be off for at least 12 hours, then it would work a couple hours. Woot was fantastic about the return, and now I have a Viewsonic VP2770 LED and love it!

From my recent experience with DOA Woot refurbs, they get refurb’ed gadgets from some 3rd party company that slaps their own arbitrary model number and barcode. My assumption is that this model number doesn't exist anywhere else. Good luck asking the refurbisher since the closest thing to human interaction you can get is leaving a voicemail.

LOL I passed on a few monitors for that exact same reason in the past. Finally bought the 27" HP QHD monitor the other day on Woot(it had a vesa mount!)... it's happy suspended from my desk mount arm now.

I don't think newegg would price match a new item to a refurbished item anyways would they? I don't think Amazon cares about them either. I would just assume it's so we don't know how little we're saving on things like these.

Agreed. Who the !#$^% doesn't put a VESA mount on a monitor nowadays??? C'mon people, it's just 4 little holes!

The monitor I purchased here (basic 23") a while back was a famous maker as well. Under the stick on logo's were HP logo's, and model information.... lol

Never looked into who made most of HP monitors.... but this one has been running everyday for 3 to 4 years without issue.

Yup, the "Famous Maker" brand is HP's refurb rebranding. The sticker in the middle of the bottom covers the hole where they removed the HP badge, the sticker on the right covers the silkscreened model #, and (on my 23" one at least), there is a giant square sticker on the back, covering the embossed HP logo. But as soon as you plug it in, it correctly identifies itself as an HP.

Mine had a few dark spots in the CF backlight (this was a different model than today's woot).
