I've figured out how to take care of non-functinoal batteries. After going through the phone tree from the number printed on the battery, I got to a helpful tech who was aware of the Woot sale, and knew that some of the batteries were arriving nonfunctional. I told him that I'd tried every permutation of charger, battery, and wristwatch, and that one specific battery wasn't operating. He told me to do the following:

1. Print out the purchase confirmation email from Woot for the watches.
2. Write on the email or on a seperate sheet your full name, telephone number, model number, and a description of the problem.
3. Fax it all in to 212.448.7682
4. Wait, then get a replacement battery in the mail.

Shouldn't be a problem, just an inconvenience. I'm going to include the confirmation page from my Woot profile, the model number of the wristwatch communicator, AND the battery modle number just in case. So I've got one battery doing the initial 12 hour charge thing, and another that should be in the mail soon.

Edit: I don't know if they call you back to verify then get the shipping address, but I'm going to include that in the documentation I fax in as well.<br/><br/>

It's a good news, not so good news story for me as well.

The good news- my delivery date was 9-5, but they came today on 9-1.

The not so good news- One of the units has a silent speaker. Not a beep, boop, or chirp to be heard through the speaker. The other set chirps as soon as it's powered up, or any buttons are pressed.

Now the details, it's not dead dead dead...just mute mute mute.
I can send from it and the other radio receives. I can send from the other radio and see the RX sign flash on the silent twin. If I use the headset, I can hear the beeps, and transmissions.

It seems it's either a dead speaker, or a stuck headphone contact that cuts out the speaker when the headset is inserted. I'm not interested in cabling my wrist to my head, and so I consider this one a DOA.

Either way, bad Woot!.
I'd like to know what Woot's going to do to make good on this bad deal.

On a positive note, my GMRS handset talks to the good wrist unit just fine, so I'm not totally SOL.

Just wanted to chime in with a positive note. Mine weren't scheduled for delivery until the 5th, but I got them today (1st). Worrying about the battery dead problem, I immediately opened and inspected the batteries, put them in, and both batteries work and both radios work. They are both charging with the charge icon properly on the screen just like my other ones (the unbranded red ones). I fully expect these to function properly. So at least it's not EVERYONE getting bad batteries and/or radios.

The documents that come with the things makes it sound like a pain to deal with warranty service, but I got through to a live person in a few minutes and everything went smoothly. Yeah, it's frustrating, but you can eventually pretend to be an older, drug-addled Johnny Quest in no time.

Is everyone having trouble charging these things? The battery just won't charge.

Looks like I stepped in a stinking pile of WOOT. Whoopee, I got the item 4 days earlier than expected. I would have gladly waited the extra 4 days if when they arrived the damned things actually worked!

I guess I have to do what the informed WOOTER above me here suggested and then wait for new batteries.

Ya dropped the ball on this one WOOT. I'll be watching you.........

Got mine yesterday, and of course 1 battery won't charge, the other does, but the unit won't turn on. Pretty groovy of Woot. They look to be of very good quality and I was initially impressed. I'm gonna try to get new batteries for both, but my kids are fine just running around with them strapped to their wrist with the headsets on playing "SPY". I'm throughly not impressed

I got my 6 yesterday and only one of them had a bad battery. Sounds like I got lucky, lol.

my 2 work like a charm. I thought I was having charging problems because I thought the low battery icon should actually show a full battery when it was done charging so I left it on for more than 12 hours. Actually the low battery icon comes on when you plug it in then will go off when they are fully charged. I powered them up and they both worked great. My daughter and I have been having a blast. Even wore mine down to a local store and was able to communicate with my daughter back at the house.

Send an email to rma@woot.com and they'll either send a replacement or issue a refund

Did that at noon Saturday.... no reponse as yet.

Edit- Heard from rma@woot today. No, there are no replacement units. I can either send mine back for a refund, or keep what I've got. At least that's what Woot'll do for me. Now I'm left with the conundrum of getting my money back and having the $25 to play with, or keeping the one fully functional unit, two batteries, and unit that needs a headphone plugged in to be heard.....

One works, one doesn't. Dead battery.

I could pay another $20 bucks for a new battery, but that would double my investment of these unproven toys. Nice.

Emailed Woot on saturday got a reply back on monday. Asked them to send me to new batteries to replace the two batteries I have that don't work. They said they would send some to me. So hopefully I will have two working wristwatch communicators soon.

Even though the delayed shipping made them miss the holiday. The two that I ordered both came working. I figured I would let people know not everyone got unworking systems.

The more I look at them make's me wish I would have bought a couple extra to look into hacking into a more useful communication device. Possibly combining it into a jacket or something.

Same thing here, one works the other doesn't. One battery's dead, the other charges... very dissapointing.
Emailed rma and service, no replacement units - they are giving me a refund. But I'm responsible for shipping units back to them "with a service that provides tracking system" and will cost me around $10-15. How come?

WELL I decided to post an anti-message.

I got both of mine today at work and they both worked out of the box the range that I got out of it was decent and they seem like they might be useful for when I go hunting in November and they work with the existing radios we use up there so it should be cool.

thanks woot

Got my unit , put in batteries and found one completely dead. Called Bell South, discontinues item....sent me somewhere else for help. (After being redirected about six times). Warranty (I guess) but must repackage and pay shipment and wait.
Woot says to do that.............absolutely a pain in the a** for a $20 dollar item?????

JUST NOT WORTH IT, I BOUGHT A TOTALLY WORTHLESS PIECE OF JUNK.

ANY SIMPLE IDEAS WOOT? PLEASE LET ME KNOW

I got these so that my son can go exploring in the woods on our property, we have 20 acres. They work great for that. I can contact him with no problem, and he can communicate with me just as easily. We will also be taking them to the state fair next month, so that I can let him know when we are ready to meet up and leave.

I am still waiting for my replacement batteries. I was hoping to have them by now. I don't know why it always takes so long to get things shipped to me. I can't wait to try these things out. Would be great to have them before the renisance festival this weekend.
