fast forward to today.. I ran 3dmark2k6 again, and it makes it all the way through.. until it hits the last test.. then artifacts and major instability..

I have this exact same problem. Only on the last test with HDR will it artifact like crazy.. btw how long does it take woot to usually respond to rma emails?

Like what saadc82 said, about one day. I put one in 2 days ago while at work before lunch and got a reply back yesterday morning before going to work so they're pretty fast. Found it funny how they just give me a username and password to use to log onto fedex.com with to print a label out ^^;;

btw, is XFX any good? Because I see a sweet deal on XFX that also comes with a lifetime warratie

I've heard XFX has the best performance nvidia cards short of the gainward bliss series. BFG are usually most stable and evga has best customer service.

Hello RMA-ville

The artifacting was pretty bad and I also experienced some stability issues upon exiting particular games. I tried all of the proposed drivers without much help.

Oh well, it was awefully exciting for a bit.

I guess you get what you pay for and sometimes deals are too good to be true....

These must have been a bad batch, or Woot unknowingly sold them without knowing they were a bad batch (giving them the befefit of doubt...). I ordered two cards with the intention of running them in SLI.

The first card tested showed garbled output from the getgo. Scrolling lines of Ascii, just a mess. Card was defective and returned for a replacement.

Second card worked for 3 days.....all was fine in all games.....but then began showing artifacts in Deep Freeze, FEAR, Dawn of War. Eventually, crapped out entirely to the degree of displaying garbled scrolling text with random color blocks on startup. After emails with woot, they had no more replacements and could only offer a refund.

Third card(replacement from first) booted up, passed 3DMark06 Deep Freeze and FEAR with flying colors. Decided to do an overnight stress test on 3D06 Deep Freeze looped. In the morning, it was still running and displaying no artifacts. I finally thought i got a hold of a good card. That night, I ran the loop test again, and this morning after waking up, I saw that my computer had rebooted. Logged back in, did a Deep Freeze loop, and the artifacts were back. Screen was a mess. Tried FEAR, same problems. So, going to refund this as well.

This really sucks. Can't believe I went through 3 cards, none of which worked over extended period of time. Shoddy Engineering for you. Needless to say, I will not be using an NVidia card for some time. I've decided to buy myself an x1900xt 512MB for $297 on Newegg.

Though it was an awful experience going through three bad cards, woot was really prompt on RMA/Return service. It was relatively painless. I just wish that these cards would have been good because it would be the video card deal of the year hands down

The problems seem to lie in a defective vertex shader supposedly. Games that are extremely shader heavy seem to display the most problems - Oblivion, FEAR, etc. If you card has problems you will see it almost immediately in 3DMark06 Deep Freeze test towards the very end, around the 50 second mark on the second to last scene. Either way, nobody should have to downclock their cards or downgrade their settings for the cards to run.

Quake4 is OpenGL, so technically it doesnt use DirectX shaders. Not sure how that works. SWG is a fairly old game, so i am guessing its DirectX7, or uses software for a lot of graphics processing....

what i meant to say was all this time i wasnt really using the card to its full potential. that all this time, ive only been playing swg (my main game) and not tried others. thats why im trying both opengl and directx.

that is very odd...mine were both sealed an brand new...i not understand y they do that...but still no probs yet when i run stock settings with fans blowing on cards...think that i should do something that would stress cards for long period of time cuz i only use comp for few hours of gameplay when i am not doing anything...an the rest of the time let comp set on desktop...3d 06 seems to be good stresser...but messed up clock settings on ram an dropped from 10000 05 points to 2000...so fixing an rerunning shortly...

I have been running my cards for about 2 weeks now in SLI and haven't experienced any problems, however, I'm getting a little worried reading these posts and have decided to run some tests to make sure that my cards aren't defective. Does anyone know whether or not I should take my cards out of SLI and test them 1 at a time with 3Dmark 06 or would I be able to leave them in SLI for the tests? I've been playing Oblivion with no problems, but that's about the only game I've really played. Any advice?

Thanks

In terms of testing for defects, turning off SLI mode is recommended and test each card seperate first, after those test has passed is when you try SLI mode.

Turning off shadows definitely stops the problem. Honestly, though, why should I have to do that?

This is the response I got from nvidia. Not much help:

Thank you for the information.

I understand that you have GeForce 7900GS graphic card with the driver version 91.47 and Windows XP Home SP2 operating system. You get artifacts while playing the Game Quake4 and the computer freezes after quitting the game FEAR. You do not have issues while playing other games.

The reason for the issue you are having could be either driver issue, system configuration or could be an issue with the game itself.

I recommend you to install the BETA driver version 91.33. Please follow the steps given below to install the BETA driver version 91.33.

I recommend you to uninstall the existing graphics drivers for GeForce 7600GS graphic card. Download the Beta driver Forceware 91.33 version of drivers from our website and disable onboard graphics adapter if any.

Please visit the on my toe to download the driver:

On the following page, click on the "Primary Download Site" URL to download the driver.

To avoid download issues, if you are running any 3rd party download utilities, please disable them as they are known for occasionally causing errors with the downloads.

Also, please verify if your computer satisfies the recommended system requirements for the game.

Hello RMA-Ville.

I got my second card ( first card i had garbled output from getgo, vertical characters, etc etc etc ) Got my second one last TH.

Used it over the weekend, it craped out on my yesterday. Bascially it works fine in 2D mode, but whenever i switch to 3Dmode ( 3Dmark, BF2 ) etc, i would get major artifacts, like its stuck switching modes. My LCD's starts going blank then when they come back, even more distorted artifacts come up. Basically it stays in that loop until i reboot my computer.

=( this sucks. Its been almost a month since i ordered the card and im not been able to use it at all.

Ok 1st let me say I have worked in the customer service biz for almost 20 years now and I know for a fact no one technical reads your emails you send in for support.
Non technical people using a tool that looks for words and phases and matches them with responses. Even with off shoring our jobs, there would be no way to replay to the millions of emails by hand. I have been on the receiving end of these emails over the years and just like the one you posted they make zero sense and hardly ever address your issue.

Ok now back to why I was posting, I got two of the woot cards for SLI and found one works with 3DMark06 and one doesn’t. Just like everyone else that has posted.
I did find that by over clocking the core to 600Mhz on the “weak” card and under clocking the MEM just 100Mhz to 560Mhz the card still produces outstanding performance for the price.

What I want to know and forgive me I am new to the woot message board and have not found a way to search just this thread but…
Is anyone else seeing these card showing up as 8x instead of 16x?

How do I post screen shots........

Anyone have information on setting custom resolutions? I did a search and found out this gpu isn't "Extreme High Definition (XHD)" supported, when I set the resolutions, it skips the 1680X1050 resolution, I even unchecked the "hide modes this monitor cannot display" option.

Again, is there anyway of setting the card to this resolution? Any leads will be helpful and thanks in advance.

It WAS too good to be True!!!

I bought THREE of these cards during the woot-off (two for myself and one for a friend). All cards after a few minutes of hard gameplay produce artifacts during and after F.E.A.R and requires a restart upon exiting FEAR due to the blinking and artifacting. No need to run anymore tests... I'm affected by this gloomy issue.

Those of you not having these problems Yet, please Make Sure you test these as suggested before your 90 days is up. You're affected, you just don't know it yet...

SLI and x16!! I found one last configuration I had not tried.
(P5N32-SLI DELUXE) 805-D @ 3.6Ghz stock cooler 2GB RAM
I connected the video cable to the slot 2 card that runs at x16 then told the BIOS to look at that slot 1st for a video card. Then booted and enabled SLI
(I thought I tried this once before but oh well) it works and I’m happy!

I second the re-woot but the price would have to be like $10 bucks as you would have to buy 3 or 4 to make sure you got one that was ok. Some people had cards that would freak at post as you will recall. Not just after F>E>A>R or 3DMark06.

Okay, you guys are making me nervous! I had been running COD2 quite hard on the card with no problems. I believe COD2 is a DirectX 9.0 client and therefore it should be using the shading engine that comes on the card. I plan to run 3Dmark tests tonight to see if mine is good or just not yet experiencing problems. Is the 3Dmark test program really a 320 MB in size to download?

okay, did some extensive testing over the past few days, and here are my results/

Ran 3dmark06 , followed up by 1 hour sessions of both quake 4 and F.E.A.R. extraction point demo. after that, played SWG for 5 hours, then ran 3Dmark06 again (this is all in one session) before i went to sleep. (approx 6 hours worth of testing nonstop)

Everything was fine and I didnt encounter any problems. This was testing done in the past 5 days, running the mentioned above test every day.

im running through the test again today. The only problem I have is with Counter Strike Source. When I enable shadows in game, it lags up only when a sound is introduced. after the sound introduction, its fine. i think it might be a source file that got messed up though, so i will have to look into that. When shadows are off, its completely fine. im going to try reinstalling it today. that it my only problem SO FAR, im going to try DoD:S later tonight.
