This probably explains why the signal is so good check out paragraph 2.

XM Board Member Steps Down, FCC Violation Reported

October 10, 2006

XM Satellite Radio has announced that George W. Haywood has stepped down from the company's Board of Directors, as the satcaster has revealed more regulatory troubles. Haywood is the second member of XM's board to step down in 2006, and says he did so for personal reasons. However, this makes the satcaster non-compliant with a NASDAQ rule that requires the majority of the board members to be independent. The Washington Post reports that XM has until their May 2007 meeting to replace Haywood.

XM also revealed in a FCC filing that it has been operating over 200 of its antennas at a higher level of power than is legally permitted. The company has had many issues with overmodulation from its radios this year. XM has powered down some of the antennas and is working on rectifying the problem.

"XM certainly seems to have a corporate inability to comply with the FCC's rules," Paul Sinderbrand of the Wireless Communications Association International told the Post. "This is all rather astonishing, especially given XM's past compliance issues."

Earlier this week, XM announced its third quarter subscription numbers, with over 285,000 new net subscribers, giving the satcaster more than 7.185 million subscribers in total.

Love my XM.

Love O&A (no offense Howie fans). I love love love em... ok, I am a 'pest' if you must know.

Anyways - as far as this item goes - looks like a pretty good deal. I own 3 Roady 2's (the model before this one) and they are nice lil units.

As far as the eternal XM vs Sirius arguments that I imagine have been going on in the previous posts.. lemme see if I can share my thoughts in the last few minutes of this item....

XM = 2 sattellites in geosyncronous (sp) orbit (stationary)
Sirius = 3 sattelites in some weird moving orbit.

I have problems gettng the XM signal when the souther sky is blocked (I don't live near any repeaters) - but it is a pretty rare thing unless my car is next to a tall building.

XM is not 100% commercial free because of an agreement they had signed with clear channel - so they added more stations and I do believe techinically they have more 'commercial free channels' than serious - but that is just getting nit-picky.

Point is - if you want the NFL get Sirus - if you want MLB or NHL - get XM. Sirius carries Notre Dame (I only know that cause my school, Purdue, played them a couple weeks ago and they were not on XM) - XM carries MOST Big Ten, Acc and Pac 10 games (Football and Basketball.

Music wise if you ask me it is a toss up.

I actually purchased XM because it had 2 kid-friendly channels and Sirius only had one (Disney) and non of the comedy channels on Sirius were 'kid friendly' while XM had one that was.

Give it a 3 month trial - I bet you get hooked.

If you can handle Opie and Anthony - check out 202 - but only if you aren't easily offended!!!

(I just peeked at a few of the other posts - look - if someone says XM SUCKS - HOWARD ROCKS - then you can bet they listen to Sirius for Howard - which is fine. But chances are if you want to hear Howard you would have made that purchase already - so if you want to check out Satellite - check out this deal - and by all means DON'T listen to 202 - just check out the music, comendy, Oprah, etc. If you are a die-hard Howie fan you should probably go with Sirius cause he gets no love on XM.)

Satellite radio sucks. I have enough bills and payments without adding another. Digital cable here...mp3 downloads there...magazines...portable devices...wireless...CD's...Netflix...different devices for everything! I can't wait for the day when I can have one device that can give it all to me.

I'll pass on this one. I have enough money going out the door without this.

I bought this exact XM unit in January after months of researching and contemplating the different products and service that XM and Sirius have. I have has it for the past 9 months and I'm very happy I went with it. It sounds great and I love the programing including Opie and Anthony, the talk shows and the music channels. I would highly recommend this woot.

Different strokes..... you know the rest....

Regular cable here, don't download MP3's, No Magazines, No netflix - instead I have Tivo (2) and buy the few DVDs I watch.

Btw - someone WAAYYY back in the thread asked how much the second Sub was - it is 6.95/month - not the 8.95 they guessed.

I realize that it's late in the Woot! day for a question, but perhaps someone can help.

Does anyone know if the unit can be attached to the dashboard in some manner other than with the very sticky attachment piece with which this package comes?

Setting aside the conversation regarding XM v. Sirius, this really does seem like a great deal. 45 bucks for the unit and 3 months of service? For someone like me interested in testing the service out, it seems perfect.

Cheers,
Jner

Yes, Jner. There are several kits available from Best Buy, Crutchfields, Circuit City, etc. Expect to spend about $25-35, but you'll get a much better quality installation. The brackets and clips with these kits will allow you to mount your RoadyXT just about anywhere in the car that suits you.

Hey...just get one of each, that way, you will have one of the best, and one of the worst...On average, you will have satellite radio.
And then we can discuss:
DSL or cable...
Apple or PC...(or Linux)
Crispy or regular.
LCD or Plasma.
Democrat or Republican.

For the answer...
CABLE RULEZ! Just like DSL!
PC rocks! Apple is the same! Linux is Neutral!
Crispy all the way! Regular and day!
LCD is superior!!!!!! To CRT! like PLASMA!
But CRT is king too!
Republican! BAR NONE! The same as Democrat!-

I wouldn't bother w/ a home docking station - these have the FM transmitter in them, so find an empty freqency on your home stereo and just use that. I do not know how it might affect the difference in quality, however, but I would try it first before getting the dock - or maybe test a dock vs transmitter at your local big box retailer...

Question from a noob w/out satellite radio. If you pay upfront for the year, do they discount the $12.95/month price?

Yes, goto the website for pricing on XM, I think you get about a month free for a year signup. And no more of those forced contracts, thank God. I still hate cell phones for that idiotic caveat.

My bank charge hasn't changed at all. My account with Woot only shows that "your order is in" not shipped on a certain date ot anything. I have never ordered anything from woot but I understand they are in Carrollton Tx. I am in Carrollton Tx as well it hasn't come yet. I hope that my Delphi RoadyXT XM Satellite Radio Receiver w/Car Kit, Free Activation and 3 Months of XM comes today.

Yeah what the hell, mine hasn't shipped either, I don't think my card has been charged but I am starting to question this whole woot purchase experience.

Most credit card authorizations only last a few days and then they drop off automatically if not captured by the merchant, which they're not supposed to do until they ship it. So if they don't get it off in a few days the authorization is no good and they have to authorize again whenever they do ship.

This has NOT been a good first woot for me. In addition to the tiny bit of remorse that I feel about having decided to buy it right after it was posted (turns out it was available the whole day and maybe I was overzealous in my purchase of two of them), now they've got me checking their site several times a day to see if it's shipped yet. I had no idea it would take this long for them to even ship it, and then once it ships I think it goes GROUND... who the stink knows when I'm going to get it. I probably shouldn't expect it until the end of next week.

Like I said, kind of lame for a first woot.

nelsonandym

quality posts: 0 Private Messages nelsonandym

Generally, it takes about a week for it to ship. It does come ground, and it's been a while since I bought something on here, so I don't recall specifically if it comes UPS or FedEX. I've ordered from NM and MO, and usually within a 5-7 business days after ordering, it'll show up on my doorstep.
They don't even start processing them until the day after the woot is complete, I'm pretty sure, so it could take a day or 2 to get them all packaged, etc. before they even go to the shipping carrier.

As far as the billing, I cought mine on a credit card, and it showing as pending, but not charged, meaning it's probably been submitted to verify available funds, but won't actually officially charge until it is shipped.

I wonder, if the shipping status hasn't changed can I expect that it has not been shipped yet or has anyone ever recieved their woot before the woot account changed to shipped? This is my first Woot so I don't know what the order status says after "your order is in".

Well there's the "FedEx" trick that I heard described on these forums. I work for a company that ships using FedEx and I verified that it works as long as you have the order number and the destination ZIP code. Here's what you do:

Go here: https://www.fedex.com/AltRefTracking?link=2&cntry_code=us

Skip the Account Number field

Enter your Woot order number (Found under "Your Account") in the "Reference" field.

Don't worry about the ship date, because it's plus-or-minus 15 days

Select "United States" and enter your ZIP code.

If FedEx has a shipment that was entered with that invoice number and going to that ZIP code, it will show you the tracking info. But don't get too excited, as they're not showing any information on my Woot order yet. But I've heard that sometimes the FedEx trick will tip you off about a shipment that Woot is not yet reporting.

That's what they say in their FAQ. They change shippers sometimes, but as of now they say they're "Making FedEx happy". The reason it's $5 is because it's FedEx GROUND.
