Well, one good experience with a JVC TV made 16 years ago will not make this TV any better.

The lamps are $200, not $250, and that's list. They are available online for somewhat less; for example, $160 here:

lookin11 wrote:The TV at Overstock.com is NOT the same model. The difference is that the one on Overstock.com does not have the digital tuner. Also the overstock.com one is a refurb (rox0rz!). It's ot a new one like the one at WOOT. Two big differences. These were mentioned earlier in the day on these pages.

One other note about resolution. 720p has more lines of resolution per second than 1080i because 1080i only sends half of the screen data on each pass, so you get 1080 lines in two sweeps but you actually get 1440 lines in 720p. People have been discussing which is better for 5 years, but in practice, it's virtually impossible to tell them apart and some TV networks transmit in 720p while others use 1080i, so no matter what your set's naitive resolution is, the set will have to adapt to the specific data being sent.

We may see a difference when 1080p takes hold in a few years, though I'm not expecting to feel too compelled to run out and dump my 1080i TV because of it. This may or may not be the best deal around, but it looks like a good TV and includes the ability to directly decode digital CATV broadcasts which is a nice bonus for a very fair price.

The JVC 1080P (note, ***P***) sets have been out since early this year. Model numbers xxFN97 and xxFH97 (xx is the screen size, 56, 61 or 70) (the FH model has a few extra features for $200 more; I'm told that there is also an el cheapo FC model with a few less features). The 56FN97 has been available at Best Buy for $1,895 several times (considered a "sale" price; it's "regular" price is currently $2,395).

I have one of these, IT IS AWESOME !!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!! The best deal is the price, I paid $2400.00 for the 52'' TV when it came out. I just recently bought the new 56'' 1080p model, looks great, I mean outstandingly awesome for all you who are concerned with 1080p. JVC and HD-ILA RULE. Best TV's Around, By Far.

Since it's a completely different piece of hardware, it isn't relevant. It's worth noting this prominent comment on that page: "HI,I HAD THIS TYPE OF PROBLEMS WITH SONY AND OTHER MAKES".

What about a 360 core system for $100 like on amazon a few weeks ago... i'd take that for christmas too, and would keep me from rationalizing the 1080p ive been eyeing for the past 8 months
