If the Roomba is a vacuum, and the Scooba is a mop, would you consider the Dirt Dog a broom? =)

If you don't have a "workshop," =P, could this just be used as a lazy dust picker upper around the house? My mother might like something like this...

Any suggestions?

I love the Roomba from the other Woot. Think I'll let this one loose out on the street, too many squirrels running around.

Ok, been waiting for this one to come up. Finally did. Now, we have every iRobot product. We some cleam babies now ... (actually, our Scooba went to mother in law) ...

I loves me my Roomba. I'm getting this one to sweep the outdoor deck, which collects leaves and debris constantly. We'll see how well it works on that.

I'll bet you don't have the iCreate. I'll buy that one if it shows up here. But I doubt it will, because it's a hobbyist robot, not a cleaning robot.

Got on of these for Xmas from my kids. I had the discovery for the house already. This is for the garage. It doesn't have a vacuum just brushes but it works great. I have a 28 by 36 garage and I back the cars out and turn it loose. It sweeps up all the dirt rocks and wood chips and saw dust.

I have a Roomba for each of my four Leakfrogs to drive around. Every Thursday night is Bumpercar Night in the dining room. Sometimes I'll squirt em with a squirt gun to really make things get exciting.

You're right ... I don't. I saw it on their website that it was going to come out, but I didm't see it released. I'll have it soon, though. They all are hobbyist robots since they're hackable ...

These type of cleaners are like cutting your lawn with a hand clippers, randomly cutting here and there, versus mowing in a straight path.
There's no point at all to these--except to fuel laziness.
Thanks to the other logical comments here that see no point in an item such as this!

I used to do that too, but it got old. Then I got four of those Barbie Bissell Vacuums and velcroed them to the Roombas. Now we're talking action!

Nothing better then getting them all going at once while I sit back and sip my Sierra Club wine. Now that's some sweet entertainment.

You've obviously never seen a time lapse of a Roomba at work. A roomba, while seeming to move at random, provides better and more complete coverage than a normal person using a traditional vac to clean up a room. Yes, the Roomba has its weakness, corners but our Roomba keeps are carpets cleaner than our traditional vac did anyday.

Does it fuel "laziness"? Me, I've got things I'd rather do with my time. There just aren't enough hours in the day. Why waste time when a Roomba can handle it for me?

As an added bonus, iRobot customer service is awesome. I'm waiting for the Scooba to come up again so I can get a couple of them. I hadn't even thought about using one of these outside on my lanai. Great idea.

Yippee!

Well, I got me one of these to keep company with the Discovery and Sage roombas.
If the Dirt Dog works out well, I may just get him a mate... for the basement. Soon I'll have a roomba in each room. LOL

BTW, is the Dirt Dog fixed and vaccinated??? Do I need to buy him a muzzle?

Thats not really accurate. They not only cover every part of a room once, they actually cover it four times. And they do a very decent job of it. The only areas that need any attention when the roombas are done is the corners, which can be easily covered in a couple minutes with a dustbuster. Lazy? Perhaps. Efficient? Absatively!

How is this thing on pet hair. Would it be better or worse than the models with vacuums?

I have two shelties and a border collie. Lots of hair. I run the roombas daily, and once a week I need to spend about 10 minutes on each roomba with a pair of tweezers to remove hair from the front wheel axels. Its time well spent though, because they keep the floors as hairless as, well, Brittany Spears.

You know, these Roombas and Scoobas are kind of high maintenance.

They've got tanks to drain, brushes to clean, bins to empty, filters to replace, etc, etc, etc.

Someone should come up with a robot that takes care of these tasks. They could probably sell a ton of them on Woot!

According to the description, this is not a vacuum but just high speed brushes that pics stuff up, for your garage. Don't know if it's really useful as there's so much stuff on the floor of the garage, I'm afraid it would get tangled in something, a wire or such. Has anyone actually used the Dirt Dog? I have the Roomba but that's a vacuum.

Do you think the brush alone on the DirtDog will be effective on dog hair?

This isn't the one you want. Instead, you should look at the "Roomba Discovery for Pets". It has brushes specially designed for pet hair.

I think the discovery roombas would be better for pet hair than this one. Also, i'm pretty sure they actually make a roomba with pet hair in mind, but it costs alot more.

Price is the issue here. If $99 gets me an entry level unit that works on our tile floors and deals with the pet hair reasonably well, then I'm in.

Anyone who actually owns the DirtDog model have specific experience with pet hair???

Actually, more accurate than you think...

While the following link is for the scooba, all formats of this type of vacuum work similarily.

Yes...SOMEONE at Woot! PLEASE quit obtaining these stupid things to waste sales on! They all get crappy reviews by 'professional' testers (e.g. Consumer Reports) and it seems like 1 Woot! a week is one of these ridiculous things. Enough!

***Local news shows have highlighted their ineffectiveness and Consumer Reports has not rated them favorably (check the magazine articles for yourself).
WWW.ConsumerReports.org has limited articles without subscribing or I'd have included info on other iRobot cleaners.
Makers like Dyson and others make $200-$500 vacuum cleaners and Sell them as well because people that want better cleaning buy them--thats just the facts.

Like it or not, improbable or not, the dang things actually work, and do a good job. This model doesn't include all the bells and whistles as the model I paid dearly for, but it will get the job done, and you'll have fun watching it work, or not. :p

I use my roomba in my garage, which is large, and it works great. I see no real need for this. Granted, I don't have bolts and screws laying around on the bloor (they aren't stellar for tires) but all the leaves, dirt, gravel, etc, that is normal to have in a garage, my roomba picks up fine.

I like! How much!?

I have the Roomba and the Scoomba (wet/dry) floor robot cleaners; they both are really cool and clean really really well. I'm happy with BOTH of them and bought both off WOOT.

As much as I LOVE pets, and this is TEMPTING BIG TIME with the paw on the top of it, I'm gonna have to pass on it. As they say, "two is company but three is a crowd".

Since I have the two mentioned above and am very happy with both, I will say if you want something VERY VERY simple, this iRobot DirtDog Model 1100 IS for you. AND it's not a bad price at all!

You'll like it b/c it's user friendly and you just may be surprised at how much it really picks up!

Night all!
