Kaffaljidhma wrote:If you are beyond the reach of digital cable service, you may consider the use of an outdoor antenna for HDTV. Digital satellite is available everywhere though for the immediate time, broadcast HDTV is limited to network programming. Local digital station broadcasts (DTV) will require an antenna for reliable reception. A television antenna that receives VHF and UHF signals is the easiest to install and is generally best for receiving all channels during the transition period. In some situations, separate VHF and UHF antennas are required for remote locations or where DTV stations are transmitted from two locations.

What can I watch in HD?
ABC was the first broadcast network to showcase HD, back on November 1st, 1998 with "101 Dalmatians". The list has been growing ever since. Movies, dramas, sit-coms, action packed sporting events such as Saturday Night College Football, NBA Finals, the Little League World Series, and Good Morning America, are some of the programs that you will see in HD. Lost, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy and all your favorite ABC shows look better with a wider, clearer, more brilliant view. We are happy to bring you the opportunity to enjoy your favorite shows even more.

Don't forget some broadcasters do more than one channel of DTV so that you can get such things as 24hr radar pictures or stock market quotes.

If you can get TV reception, this will work. It works like a TV with an antenna. Simple concept.

No. You don't need cable at all. HDTV is FREE in every major city in the united states. You just need an HD tuner. This is an HD tuner. If you have the correct hardware (like an HD-ready TV or your computer monitor) you can watch many programs and most sporting events aired on your local stations in beautiful High Definition TV (with stereo or surround sound audio) FOR FREE!

load the software, plug it in the usb port, hook the antenna to it, or cable from cable company or dish network, go into set up tell it normal tv or cable/dish and watch tv.
this one does take a pretty decent computer to operate it. I have a pcmcia tuner card, does the same thing.

unless you're using at least 720 lines while watching a widescreen HD movie, then it will not be "true" HD. Watching a widescreen movie on a 4:3 screen will give you lots of black space.

ex, 1024X1280 will not display all the pixels from a 720p signal.

Ive installed a dozen or so square shooter HD antennas, and they are the way to go. If you have Directv get a hi def receiver and add a square shooter for locals......

Currently, about 60 percent of American homes can only get HD signals by aerial.
I was flabbergasted to hear that, but it seems like these stations are dragging their heels in upgrading and smaller cable outlets don't seem exactly thrilled, either.
Unless you have or want a service like cable or satellite and they have HD in your area, the aerial is your friend. Fear it not.

from my understanding, one of the many reasons is that the HD signal doesnt carry as far as traditional analog. Which wouldnt surprise me, on a good night I can pick up a couple of stations that are approx. 150 miles away.
