Dear Mr. and Mrs. Elkin,
I am sorry to say that today I had to send your son, Thomas, to the principal’s office. The reason for his dismissal was his excessive and, quite frankly, frightening level of anger.
His outburst came right in the middle of silent drawing time. Now, to be clear: he didn’t actually say anything. Nor was the picture he drew – of a flower with a smiley face – particularly unnerving. It was just something about the way that he worked the pencil – which he had topped with a soft, plush officially Licensed Angry Bird character – that just seemed unnecessarily malicious.
I can barely even explain it; there was just something about it, as if, sitting there, he’d loaded himself into a slingshot and was preparing to launch himself at just the right angle to bring down the whole room upon all of us.
At any rate, I’ve informed the school counselor and he should be contacting you shortly.
