I really thought this midnight volleyball program would get kids off the street. By a few feet, anyway.

I had such high hopes when I set up this Sportcraft ESPN Glow in the Dark Volleyball Set in my front yard. Finally, I thought, I’d be doing something for all the at-risk youth with nothing better to do all night than spray graffiti everywhere, or go wilding, or sleep.

So I opened its 85” telescopic poles and 30’x39” glow-in-the-dark knotless net to the public. And then waited for my selfless gesture to transform my neighborhood, my community, my world.

I’m still waiting.

Maybe at-risk youth don’t really like volleyball. Maybe spraying graffiti is just more fun. Or maybe nobody wants to hang out late at night in some stranger’s front yard.
