You’ll get way better sound quality than if you’re connecting your iPod to your stereo with a typical “mini to RCA” cable. We really like the performance and price of the Pure i20 dock (available from Amazon for under $100). Connect it to a DAC•iTx with a 75Ω coax digital cable and you’re ready to dock it and rock it.
